Centrally placed to explore Norfolk with its wonderful coastline and the famous Norfolk Broads. Wroxham, the capital of the Norfolk Broads is 29 miles away with daily boat hire and river trips, waterside cafes, restaurants and shops. The North Norfolk coast is approximately 35 miles, with Cromer, Wells, Brancaster, Blakeney and Great Yarmouth within easy reach. Thetford Forest, 15 miles, has designated picnic areas, walking trails, Go-Ape zip line and treetop walkway challenges. Designated off-road cycling tracks for experienced and novice cyclists. Good cycling and walking directly from the door. Golf courses nearby. Norwich city, 13 miles, for excellent shopping - two shopping malls, cathedral, theatres, castle museum, restaurants, pubs and cafes. Freshwater fishing (with licence) 1 mile. Snetterton racetrack, 10 miles.

We allow up to two well behaved dogs but please don't let them upstairs or on the furniture. The garden is private and secluded, but estate railings divide the garden from next door and any small or inquisitive pooches could escape, so please supervise at all times.

Our local gastropub The White Hart is just across the road and serves excellent food and local ales, there are also two cafes and a takeaway. The local bakery provides fresh bread and delicious home made cakes and there is a greengrocer, butcher, chemist and local store, in fact, everything you could possibly need!

About Louise Coster

We look forward to welcoming you to Bank House and this beautiful part of the country, there are so many lovely things to discover.

We live and work next door, where my husband Sam runs his architectural salvage business. We are both passionate about reclamation and the restoration of architectural antiques and many of the items we sell have been used in the cottage.

We are almost always here to let you in and show you around, otherwise, one of our friendly staff will greet you. The cottage is then yours to enjoy, but we are nearby if you need any local information or suggestions for places to visit.

Why Louise Coster chose Norwich

Hingham is ideally situated for exploring Norfolk and makes a perfect base for a family holiday or romantic break.

It is surrounded by beautiful countryside but within easy reach of Norwich, the North Norfolk coast and the Broads.

What makes this cottage unique

Quiet, peaceful and secluded, this former hall house is rich in character and full of charm, but with modern and functional amenities throughout.

Bank House has a long and fascinating history, dating from the 15th century. It still retains many original features but been brought back to life using traditional materials and techniques.

Brilliant property

  • 5 of 5

Real attention to detail during the renovation process. Very helpful and friendly owners whose architectural salvage business is close by. High quality furnishings and produce in the kitchen. Highly efficient central heating. Good pub over the road. Bus goes into Norwich half-hourly so leave your car in Hingham. Loved it all, even the weather was great, if chilly.

For me to say the owners great, cottage great and leave it at that would be an insult to Louise and Sam - I didn’t want to go into a diatribe but it’s important. Met by the lovely Louise on arrival; the cottage (actually Bank House) was lovely and warm, very quirky and just as described. Comfortable and cosy, fantastic slopey floors and low beams. Owners next door but not in any way intrusive just their genuine wish for guests to have a great stay. PLEASE don’t be put off by the on street parking, I nearly was and it would have been a huge mistake-there are no issues at all; always spaces available. The villagers are so welcoming and friendly and it’s a beautiful place. Louise; so many valuable touches for your guests; I can’t tell you how many holiday properties we have rented where the owners ration consumables such as dishwasher tablets/loo rolls/toiletries and linens. They could learn a great deal from your generosity of spirit, I couldn’t believe the box of dishwasher tables under the sink ! Of course your other touches, wine, eggs, milk and the very tasty cake - Thank you

I forget to mention the dog treats left for our loony chocolate lab Lucy, who you welcomed with open arms. She wasn’t allowed any as she’s a tad too fat you might have guessed

I think I left one of Lucy’s water bottles behind with my apologies and I forgot to tell you there was a wash in the dishwasher - sorry

We will be back, hopefully before five years when Alexs’ ticket expires ...... but if not we will see you then - wouldn’t stay anywhere else

Thanks, it’s been a lovely break

Sue, Alex and looney Lucy

The perfect holiday cottage!

  • 5 of 5

Bank House is a wonderful, ancient, character cottage. The owners, Sam and Louise are warmly welcoming and the property is truly delightful. Here you will find things of 2017, 1917, 1817 and 1417!

The cottage is spotlessly clean; warm and cosy; excellently equipped and very generously provided with kitchen consumables.

The setting in the centre of Hingham is quiet and relaxed, but with local shops and of course very close to all the facilities of Norwich.

Overall, very highly recommended!

Hingham is a thriving village with many shops and amenities. Our local gastropub The White Hart serves excellent food and is dog and child friendly. Two cafes are within a minutes walk, as are the local bakers, butcher, greengrocer and general store. There is a sports and social club and two playgrounds for children.
