About the property

Bank House is a 15th-century timber-framed building with wattle and daub walls, it has been fully restored using traditional methods and reclaimed materials wherever possible.

It lies just a short stroll from the pretty market place in the fine and ancient town of Hingham - with it's Grade II listed, Georgian architecture.

Inside - The living room kitchen and dining room are open plan, with original cast iron radiators, traditional Norfolk pamment and English oak floors throughout.

A cosy wood-burning stove is the focal point of the living room with initial logs provided. Sofa and two small armchairs TV and DVD player with a good selection of DVD's, board games and books.

Beamed farmhouse-style kitchen/dining room with inglenook fireplace, butlers sink, oven and grill with ceramic hob, fridge-freezer, dishwasher, microwave, fully equipped with pots, pans and crockery. Washing machine with washing liquid provided.

Boot/coat room. Steepish, winding stairs to the first floor:

Double bedroom with huge Georgian leaded window overlooking the garden. Extra wide English oak floorboards.Chest of drawers and hanging space.

Second bedroom with twin antique single beds, bedside table, built-in wardrobe on landing outside.

Bathroom with separate shower cubicle, restored roll-top bath with shower attachment, WC with antique high-level cistern.

PLEASE NOTE -There are several low beams throughout the cottage so please remember to duck if you don't want bumps in the night. The floorboards are stepped and uneven in places - the delights of a medieval cottage.

* New for summer, our lovely garden studio with a futon and outdoor beanbag for relaxing, reading and enjoying the garden. Opening out onto the courtyard and garden it could also sleep an adventurous teenager. Please contact us if you would like to use it for accommodation as there will be a small surcharge.

Wroxham, the capital of the Norfolk Broads is 29 miles away with daily boat hire and river trips, waterside cafes, restaurants and shops. The North Norfolk coast is approximately 35 miles, with Cromer, Wells, Brancaster, Blakeney and Great Yarmouth within easy reach. Thetford Forest, 15 miles, has designated picnic areas, walking trails, Go-Ape zip line and treetop walkway challenges. Designated off-road cycling tracks for experienced and novice cyclists. Good cycling and walking directly from the door. Golf courses nearby. We look forward to welcoming you to Bank House and this beautiful part of the country, there are so many lovely things to discover.

We live and work next door, where my husband Sam runs his architectural salvage business. We are both passionate about reclamation and the restoration of architectural antiques and many of the items we sell have been used in the cottage.

We are almost always here to let you in and show you around, otherwise, one of our friendly staff will greet you. The cottage is then yours to enjoy, but we are nearby if you need any local information or suggestions for places to visit.

A Great Find With Great Hosts

  • 5 of 5

Two of our employee's stayed there whilst working nearby. The place was very clean and they couldn't of wanted for better hosts to welcome them and go through everything.

Stayed for 2 nights and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Louise was really lovely and very welcoming. The property has so much character, each room beautifully presented. Lots of little personal touches really made it feel like a home from home. Will definitely be returning.

Hidden Treasure

  • 5 of 5

We loved our stay at Bank House that we have booked again for September!!

Beautiful little cottage tucked away in Norfolk, full of character and charm!

Louise was extremely helpful and efficient, she was always on hand if you had any queries.

We would also recommend the White Hart Hotel for food and drinks which is literally a stones throw from the cottage.

We would defintely recommend Bank House for those looking to get away and relax.

Louise, the Owner gave us a fantastic welcome when we arrived.

  • 5 of 5

The cottage is very well situated on the Market Square tucked away down a quiet private entrance. Bank House, is amazing, full of character and oddles of home comforts. One of the best Cottages I have stayed in. It was warm and cosy with instant hot water from a combi boiler. Hingham is a lovely Georgian village with an excellent Bakers, Butchers, Newsagent, Fish and Chip shop and Pub/Hotel within a 2 minute walk and a large CO-OP 8 mins walk away. A bus goes into Norwich every 30 mins from the bus stop opposite the house. On street parking was never a problem. We will be returning as we all had a brilliant time.

Sublime

  • 5 of 5

For me to say the owners great, cottage great and leave it at that would be an insult to Louise and Sam - I didn’t want to go into a diatribe but it’s important. Met by the lovely Louise on arrival; the cottage (actually Bank House) was lovely and warm, very quirky and just as described. Comfortable and cosy, fantastic slopey floors and low beams. Owners next door but not in any way intrusive just their genuine wish for guests to have a great stay. PLEASE don’t be put off by the on street parking, I nearly was and it would have been a huge mistake-there are no issues at all; always spaces available. The villagers are so welcoming and friendly and it’s a beautiful place. Louise; so many valuable touches for your guests; I can’t tell you how many holiday properties we have rented where the owners ration consumables such as dishwasher tablets/loo rolls/toiletries and linens. They could learn a great deal from your generosity of spirit, I couldn’t believe the box of dishwasher tables under the sink ! Of course your other touches, wine, eggs, milk and the very tasty cake - Thank you

I forget to mention the dog treats left for our loony chocolate lab Lucy, who you welcomed with open arms. She wasn’t allowed any as she’s a tad too fat .....as you might have guessed

I think I left one of Lucy’s water bottles behind with my apologies and I forgot to tell you there was a wash in the dishwasher - sorry

We will be back, hopefully before five years when Alexs’ ticket expires ...... but if not we will see you then - wouldn’t stay anywhere else

Thanks, it’s been a lovely break

Sue, Alex and looney Lucy

Brilliant property

  • 5 of 5

Real attention to detail during the renovation process. Very helpful and friendly owners whose architectural salvage business is close by. High quality furnishings and produce in the kitchen. Highly efficient central heating. Good pub over the road. Bus goes into Norwich half-hourly so leave your car in Hingham. Loved it all, even the weather was great, if chilly.
