Simple, cosy cottage in beautiful Suffolk countryside, near Washbrook

Bedrooms 2
Property type cottage
Minimum Stay 3 - 4 nights

About the property

This is a beautiful semi-detached cottage, surrounded by fields, that has been in my family for over 50 years. It is simple (no TV, broadband, microwave) but it has everything you need for a quiet getaway or holiday surrounded by nature. The lane is incredibly quiet with very little passing traffic but it is about 10 minutes drive to Ipswich and the coastal areas of Suffolk are close by (Felixtowe 20 minutes, Orford, Walberswick, Thorpeness, Southwold, Aldeburgh are about 40 minutes). It is a perfect place to take young children. The garden is large and almost entirely laid to grass. A path in front of the cottage leads to a church that dates from Norman times (now closed). A stream down the lane is perfect for a game of Pooh sticks, buzzards overhead.

Places of interest nearby include Hadleigh (lovely market village with the world-famous Partridges ironmongers), Lavenham (medieval village), Dedham (heart of Constable country) and Ipswich if you are after some retail therapy, cinema, theatre, indoor pool and so on. There are numerous, incredibly picturesque villages nearby. There is a horse-riding stable with horses and ponies for all ages and abilities a 10-minute walk away. There is a local pub in the village with a restaurant specialising in gluten-free meals.

There is a kitchen with pantry next door, a sitting-room with dining-table and radio/CD player, a main bedroom with king-size bed and a bathroom and twin bedroom. It is perfect for four people but there is also a sofa-bed in the sitting room for an occasional visitor. It has recently been renovated.

About The Owner

I grew up in London but this is the place I came with my parents and 7 brothers and sisters every holiday! How we all fitted in I don't know, but we used to have a caravan round the corner in the garden where some of us used to sleep. I have very fond memories of holidays here, the freedom of running round the countryside and coming back to flop at the sun trap outside the front door. Building dens, having a bonfire in the garden that's what the place is all about.

Lovely cozy quiet charming!

Stayed with my husband and my mom. Was near to my sister which was perfect! So quiet and restful and had everything we needed for a wonderful 5 night stay. Hope to come back to the cottage at the end of the trip for a couple nights. 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

Great little cottage

  • 5 of 5

We had a lovely stay, the cottage was very cosy and suited our needs. Lots of long walks and a lovely wood fire burner to come home and sit by with a good book.

Lovely, tranquil retreat.

  • 5 of 5

If you're looking for a quiet, cosy place to relax and step off the world, this is it. No TV (perfect)but all the conforts of home in a tastefully decorated and maintained cottage. The log burning fire is warm and homely for the evenings. The owners are approachable and helpful . Close to Ipswich and Felixstowe, but also Flatford Mill ( Constable Country ) and pretty villages like Hadleigh. Cross country hike to the pub is an adventure too. Highly recommended.

Remote and rural cottage

  • 4 of 5

Yes, we really enjoyed our time in this unique cottage with its unexpected charme. It had everything we wanted - even the missing TV was not an issue any more... It is also a good starting point for lovely country walks. We arrived home with replenished energy tanks.

Quiet and secluded, easy to find.

Just what we needed to come back to after visiting family. Would have liked a TV to watch in the evenings.
