Comfort and peace
A really lovely house, beautifully kitted out. Bedrooms were comfortable as were the sitting rooms. A welcome pack of tea and cake was much appreciated on arrival! We hadn’t been to the Eden Valley before and found it the perfect venue for a long weekend away. We’d unhesitatingly recommend Garthfolds to anyone looking for a hugely comfortable and peaceful retreat.
Beautiful holiday home
The house is lovely in a truly magical setting. The rooms are spacious and very comfortable. The kitchen is reasonably well appointed, although we found the first night a bit difficult as there were no dishwasher tablets or anything to wash up with. Happily there is a good Co-op nearby which was just as well as there is virtually no mobile signal so we were unable to contact the owners. All in all our visit was a happy one and I would recommend. (We were, however, slightly surprised at being charged £25 for a minor breakage).
A great place for our family get-together
Garthfolds was wonderful; the location and views were breathtaking, the house was so comfortable, we all slept like logs; we had everything we needed for great family meals in the amazing kitchen and comfy evenings in front of the fire. I enjoyed my morning jogs, taking a different route each day; my son and brother enjoyed fishing, we all had wonderful walks along the river and drives out to the lakes. None of us wanted to leave.
Garthfolds is located on a private rural Estate close to the pretty market town of Penrith with its individual shops and restaurants. This is the perfect base to explore the many attractions of the area: The Northern Lakes - Derwentwater and Ullswater are stunningly beautiful and only a 20 minute drive away. There are many historic houses in the region - Lowther Estate and Castle, with its imposing ruins, gardens and cafe: Hutton in the Forest with various outdoor events in the summer - Open air Shakespeare, Potfest in the Park and Horse Trials: Dalemain with its famous marmalade festival and open gardens. Just a little further is Hadrian's Wall and Birdoswald Roman Fort which is a great family day out. However, with fairs and festivals, foodie events and even rock festivals on the doorstep you won't need to look too far to find something to keep everyone entertained.
