Willow Cottage is the best self-catering place that we have experienced in France, to the extent that we have returned for the past five years. Jean is welcoming and makes sure that everything is right and we enjoy her animals and birds, quite a menagerie. It is a great base for exploring the region but is also tranquil enough for quiet days by the pool and walks around the village. It is a short drive from the spectacular Cité of Carcassonne and Canal du Midi and convenient to the motorway for trips to Toulouse or the coast; even Spain is only an hour and a half away. And there are many pretty villages in the surrounding mountains. Most highly recommended.
My husband and I together with our good friends stayed here in late August and we very much enjoyed our visit.
The first thing the house has everything you could need for a great holiday and is a very short walk from the village center where there are 2 very decent places to eat. On the upper scale S'Comme which is beside the Chateau. Wonderful service and food and the drink on the lawn beforehand is a must. The lady who worked in the Chateau was most accommodating.
On a lesser scale but still great is the Cafe Bar where the owner and staff are super helpful.
The village also has a very well equipped small supermarket, shop and butcher. The bakery was closed for holidays.
Back to Willow Cottage, the major bonus for us was Jean the owner. She is so helpful and in constant good mood and even does taxi if you want to wander further for a meal and enjoy a drink.
Her collection of animals make the stay even more interesting!
After a very long drive we were welcomed very warmly by Jean who made us feel at home straight away. Everything is catered for and nothing is too much trouble for Jean. She is there but not there if that makes sense!! Carcassonne is a five minute drive away and a must visit! Whether you speak french or not you must see the jousting show! The horsemanship is wonderful. The pool is a perfect size and the same depth the whole length making the children feel safe. We had a great holiday and would recommend Jean's property to everyone!
I was so lucky they chose my cottage, what a lovely family each one of them, I would welcome them with open arms anytime, sincerely Jaen
We enjoyed a week here in June - a lovely location on the outskirts of Palaja with easy access at the bottom of the hill to the village butcher, baker, small supermarket and others. A short walk got us to the friendly little restaurant L'Arbre du Voyageur where we had dinner on a couple of nights. Not far by car into Carcassonne which is well worth a visit - to both old and new centres. We had an amazing cassoulet at L'Als' Assiette in the new centre.
Willow Cottage has a sunny terrace where you can relax with a glass of wine after a busy day of sightseeing. The private pool a delightful haven for the weary. We got a great welcome from our host Jeanne who could not do enough for us. A welcome pack of necessities helped us settle in quickly. The family pets were all friendly
A great stay
My Mother, my sister and myself stayed at this gite near Carcassonne.
Exactly as described in the details and a lovely location, just 10 minutes drive to Carcassonne. We flew in from Bournemouth.
Carcassonne is a great town, very busy so it was nice to get back to the peace and quiet of the villa. It was a nice location to stay in the get out and enjoy all that the area has to offer.
Jean who runs the villa and also the apartment, could not have been more helpful, nothing was too much trouble for her. A lovely villa, all on one level and having 2 shower rooms, was a big plus!
The pool was great and so peaceful. We spent many evenings sitting out enjoying a glass of wine.
We really enjoyed our stay here and on our next trip to Carcassonne we will be staying here again.
Highly recommended for a nice holiday.
Great place and a truly caring landlady
A tranquil holiday in a beautiful setting close to amenities and so much to visit.Set in a small village with the black mountains in the distance and a Roman viaduct on your morning/evening walk and a more than helpful proprietor. There are so many options and beautiful villages and marvellous restaurants from Lagrasse and Monze the M11 to the Auberge du Chiens as you exit the main A61 on route to Palaja. Look to see where the French are eating and you cannot go wrong. North of the A61 you have the Canal du midi, and follow the route to Bize-Minervois, good food/wine region.
