Delightful villa in a peaceful setting
This was a great base from which to explore some of Apulia! We went from coast to coast and the difference is worth exploring. We did towns/cities near and far, we enjoyed the architecture, the markets, the restaurants, the friendly helpful locals and when we dicovered the delights of the macellaria in Cutrifiano we were more than made up (excellent prepeared food at very reasonable prices) and were able to fully enjoy the pleasures (and in particular, the terrace) of the villa without really needing to really exert ourselves - just what we needed!
We were very please to meet with several neighbours who were very supportive of our attempts to speak italian - we benefitted from their garden produce an duseful advice. The only fly in the ointment was a reminder that the property is surrounded by working fields - so the annual pruning of olive trees and the harvesting of the grain did occasionally make themselves felt - but that is a feature of the time of year that we visited the area - and we all need to be reminded of where the good things in life come from - so a small price to pay!
The mystery of the disappearing garden figs remains unsolved - they were there in ripe abundance one day, and gone the next!
Many thanks for the review! I am so glad to hear you enjoyed your stay at the villa and all the experiences that Salento has to offer. Our neighbours especially are always friendly and always happy to offer advise or help. The missing figs sounds interesting! We look forward to having you visit again soon. Regards Claire
Casa Nina - Cutrafinao
A fantastic villa in a beautiful part of Italy. Claire the owner made sure everything was arranged well in advance and this was backed up with great support on the ground. The villa itself is well laid out with good sized rooms and two stunning bathrooms. Outside is well set up with a fantastic covered patio, garden space and BBQ. Do bring your mosi repellent though – they breed them tough in Salento!
The surrounding area is stunning with fantastic beaches on either the east or west coast with some of the most clear water I’ve seen in the med. I particularly recommend baia verde near to Gallipoli. Lots of great towns to visit and there are all sorts of festivals going on which really add to the charm and spectacle. We went to the most amazing festival of light in nearby Scarano which was simply mind blowing. As the garden of Italy the area is well catered for in terms of produce and restaurants. You won’t be disappointed. A great highlight was the Enoteca in the town – stunning local wine for less than 1.5 euros a bottle and the best olive oil for around 4 euros! When coupled with the amazing gelateria (Italians really do know what they’re doing when it comes to ice cream!) you’re well covered.
It can get hot so you may want to consider which time of year best suits your preferences during the summer months.
Claire can arrange cooking lessons with a local cook which were great fun and highly recommended.
A lovely villa in a wonderful area.
When planning this holiday, my wife and I were considering many options - from hotels to beach resorts, but in the end we decided on this lovely home in Italy. We were so pleased to find everything we needed. We took our two kids and never had to worry about them. The beautiful vineyard and veggie garden provided for long hours of fun for the kids while my wife and I enjoyed time in the outdoor kitchen and on the terrace.
In terms of the description and facilities, the owner is spot on. We were lucky enough to use some of the vegetables in the garden for cooking and this home offers stunning views of the surrounding countryside. Everything was very clean (first thing my dear wife looked at, of course). Our favorite was taking scenic drives to the coast and through the surrounds. We stumbled this lovely restaurant called La Stanzie which is on the road to Supersano - BEST Italian cooking I've had!
Thanks to the owners who made our stay a very pleasant one!! We will most certainly be back.
Perfect place to stay on holiday!!
Nino, what a beautiful place! Perfect location, private, beautiful, safe and just a short drive to the beach, restaurants and shops.
My fiance and I had the best holiday ever and I would like to thank the Botha family for this great experience. Everything was perfect from the kitchen right through to the vine yard. The only problem now is to build the exact same kitchen for my fiance, but luckily I also enjoy spending time there.
The house have the best neighbors, we were invited to their house for lunch and we had pasta and superb wine. The next evening we returned the favour and invited them for a proper South African barbecue, oh boy did they enjoy that!!
I would recommend this perfect holiday house to anyone who is looking to have a great and special time like we did.
I had such a great time, and are already planning my next visit to Nino in 2014.
Thanks again Claire and Ian.
Lots of love,
Charl and Lizelle
The Magic of The Salento
As someone who travels a lot and loves Italy, but also wants the comforts of my "own place" I found the home that Claire and her husband have created to be perfect. In the country, with sweeping views over olive groves and vineyards it has that special magic that one can enjoy from the wonderful outdoor dining area on the spacious terrace. The peace and quiet a contrast to city life. The house has a well equipted kitchen and spacious indoor living area with woodburning stove for chilly evenings in winter. The two bathrooms are excellent and the the bedrooms a good size. The town of Cutrofiano, 8 minutes by car, has good supermarkets, shops and bars and great playground/park for small children when they no longer want to visit the beautiful nearby beaches. There are many markets in surrounding towns which sell everything from great local cheese, fruit, vegetables, wine, clothes to furniture. Summertime is a constant round of Festas and openair musical attractions. I have stayed at this home on numerous occasions when visiting friends in the area and am always delighted with new adventures when exploring the countryside and "points of interest". Claire and her husband have thought of everything to make a holiday an experience to remember.
Thanks Jan! So nice to hear from you and of course we look forward to having you stay again soon. Happy Travels in the meantime!!
Casa Nino, Cutrofiano.
Great spot. Huge outdoor covered terrace, superb big built-in barbeque. Tucked well away from the nearest road so very quiet, but with lovely country all round and super views from the roof terrace. So good to be surrounded by your own vinyard and fruit and olive trees.
House very well renovated with all you could need.
Cutrofiano is very close; a sweet little town with good markets (supermarkets and street markets) and good wine shops selling the local Primitivo wines - very drinkable !
Cutrofiano our closest town is famous for shoes and pottery. The Coli pottery showrooms offer tours of the factory and typical Italian pottery for sale. We are only 20 minutes from Otranto, Gallipoli, Porto Cesareo and Torre del Oro. Fabulous beaches on the Ionian Coast and stunning rock caves on the Adriatic coast. We are very lucky to have the climate for swimming from late April to October. Lecce is 30 minutes drive away, commonly nicknamed the 'The Florence of the South'. There are rich Baroque architectural and monuments here.
To the north of the Salento peninsular in 'Alto Salento' are Ostuni, Martina Franca and Alberobello and this is 'Trulli' country (conical stone dwellings). This is the most developed part of Puglia with more tourists and higher prices.
