Somewhere Special-newly renovated contemporary 17th cent Cumbrian cottage for 2

Bedrooms 1
Property type cottage
Minimum Stay 2 - 7 nights

About the property

Contemporary Cumbrian Cottage sleeps 2 - Close to Lake Ullswater and Penrith

Tucked away in the quiet Cumbrian village of Skelton, Westoe cottage is perfect if you are looking for somewhere special to relax and recharge your batteries or discover this stunning part of the UK. The small pretty market town of Penrith and stunning Lake Ullswater are only a short drive away. The busier lake district town of Keswick is only 30 minutes drive. With easy access to the M6 motorway 6 miles away, guests can soon start enjoying their holiday without hours of driving. This is excellent for short weekend breaks, if you want to split the journey to/ from Scotland or a last minute escape to the country.

The 17th century cottage is light , bright and contemporary yet retaining much of the original rustic character and features as possible. Converted from a stable and feed store for the attached property many years ago we have just finished renovating this cute and quirky building into a perfect get away for couples ( there is room for a cot if needed) .

A short walk to the village pub serving delicious home cooked food (open most days) means eating out is an easy option or a special treat as part of your holiday.

By providing most essentials for your stay including bedding/towels, tea/coffee/ washing up goods and basic toiletries hopefully all you will need is food of your choice and personal toiletries. You wont need to pack the kitchen sink, especially useful if travelling from abroad!

Living in the village and with one successful holiday property also here, we are delighted to have created another special place for couples to enjoy. As Westoe is newly finished ,Toddles barn reviews can be viewed on this website as a helpful guide.

Life is so busy and finding somewhere special to get away and to relax is really important , Westoe cottage in this lovely little village will hopefully become part of your plan and give you a taste of country life. Please feel free to ask for further information.

Many thanks

I am Cumbrian born and bred having lived on farms in the area. Five years ago we moved to the village of Skelton and have just completeted Westoe cottage our second holiday property in the village. Our first property Toddles barn has been up and running for 18 months now and has been a great success, We were delighted when the opportunity came along to create another fantastic property in the village to the same high standard of our first. We have 3 daughters who all like the outside life. With 3 cats and pony called Rosie we are always busy and with the addition of a puppy life is definitively mad.

JOANNE FISHER purchased this cottage in 2016

Why JOANNE FISHER chose Penrith

Westoe Cottage is ideal for a couple to find somewhere newly renovated in an ideal location to have a lovely break away. We have tried to provide all you will need in a spotless environment. The newly opened pub near by is a great asset and the local town of Penrith and the lake Ullswater as well as M6 motorway make this an ideal destination.

What makes this cottage unique

If I was looking for somewhere to stay I would like some where that is interesting and well furnished with character. I would also like the property to be clean and well maintained as well as full equipped. I feel we have created this at Westoe cottage to give guests great value and a special holiday experience.

We welcome everyone to our newly renovated cottage. This country cottage has quirky charm and character. It may be a small cottage but it gives a huge welcome. Westoe is light and airy and we have used the space well so we feel it provides all what is needed and somehow still is quite spacious. The stairs are the old original ones and some may have to watch the head height. A stair rail is provided as an extra measure. We live in Church House next to the village church in the village so guests can call by to meet us or ask any questions. Also please feel free to ask if forgotten anything. I try to meet guests or at least call by, if however it is a short stay then sometimes I don't want to bother guests. I am always available so please feel free if not sure about anything at all. There is a key code box on the door the code is 1066. We try to accommodate our guests needs so please let us know if it is a special occasion and would like a cake etc or to discuss early/late check in.

Car: necessary

To find our property please leave M6 motorway at Junction 41 , heading for Silloth/Wigton on the B5305. Continue on this road for approx 5 miles. Take the first turning for Skelton on the left follow the sat nav into the village. Continue up the village until the Dog and Gun pub at a crossroads. Turn here towards Ellonby and Westoe cottage is just past the school on the opposite of the road set back off the road and adjoining Wetheral House. There is a sign on the end of the property and a small parking space for one car.

Westoe cottage is an ideal base to explore the Northern Lakes and also the unspoilt Eden Valley. We are close to many local attractions, historic country houses, lakes, mountains and fells are all within a 15 minute drive away.

Ullswater Lake is the closest and beautiful all year round and only a short drive over the spectacular Kirkstone Pass and you are into the heart of the lakes with Windermere and Ambleside easy to reach.

If you like historic properties and gardens then Penrith area is full of many fascinating places to visit. Hutton in the Forest is only 3 miles away, Dalemain House is 10 mins and the newly opened Lowther Castle 20mins drive. All have fantastic gardens and if gardening is your thing then a trip to the famous Larch Cottage Nursery and gardens at Melkinthorpe should definitely be on your list to visit.

For families the Rheged discovery centre is 10 mins away, there is also the Alpaca centre nearby and a trip to the Jersey Ice cream farm is well worth it.

There is so much to do and see in and around this area that i'm sure you will find plenty to do.
