A beautiful two bedroom stone cottage with private patio garden
About Joe Pawson
I moved to Brockweir from London, looking for a lifestyle closer to nature and the elements. I've spent the last two years renovating the cottage and discovering a love of natural building in the process. Now that the cottage is finished I can begin planting a forest garden here.

Charming cottage in a beautiful part of the world
All was exactly as described. Well supplied, lovingly restored cottage.
Cosy and charming retreat
Joe has truly created a peaceful haven with all mod cons. The parking was spacious, just opposite the garden gate which was a relief for unloading. The garden was mostly enclosed making it safe for our dog. (a larger dog could jump the front wall) The cottage was as described with a warm, homely feel to it. Very comfy beds and good shower. Everything worked well as Joe was attentive in an unobtrusive way. The location was perfect for us to walk with the dog and relax on the terrace when the sun shone. We highly recommend this cottage.
We wish we could have stayed for 2 or 3 more weeks
The cottage has been renovated with real care and attention resulting in understated luxury. The kitchen has every utensil, pot and pan you need to make proper meals including a gas oven. The bathroom has a decent powerful shower and a proper bath. The living room hosts the hub of the house; the log burner. Staying in the winter meant we needed to keep this topped up to keep the heating on. Don't be shy with the wood, pack it full to the top and the heating system will turn on much quicker. There's also numerous electric heaters around the house for a quick blast of heat for when you've just got in or first thing in the morning. The bed is almost too comfortable as you will not want to get out in the morning.
If you like walking and quirky interesting towns then there's lots to do in the area. The house sits right on the Offa Dyke's footpath and you can follow this over to Tintern Abbey. Make sure you stop at the local community shop. We also spent a day in Hay-on-Wye which included a reasonable drive but it meant we got to see more of the area.
Joe lives on site but we never actually met him. He made it clear that if there was anything we needed, we just needed to contact him and he would happily have shown us. He's available to show you anything in person or to advise over phone/messages/emails. Very responsive and completely unobtrusive.
Highly recommended. Double thumbs up. Thanks, Joe.

Beautifully crafted cottage in rural setting
We had a wonderful time exploring the Wye valley and forest of Dean with our friends, baby and dog. We were extremely happy to find such a beautiful and quirky property to accommodate all of us. Joe, the owner, was incredibly helpful, generous and very prompt at replying to messages. We would definitely consider coming back!
Well-equipped, cosy cottage
Despite some wet and windy weather we had a good weekend at this beautifully renovated and comfortable cottage. Cosy evenings in front of the wood burner, a lovely walk to Tintern and several visits to the village shop and cafe were some highlights, along with the views from Symonds Yat and a wander round Goodrich castle
Located in the stunning Wye Valley, just outside the small country village of Brockweir. The local eco village shop is 15 minutes walk away, a traditional countryside pub 15 minutes walk away and Tintern abbey is 35 minutes walk. The Forest of Dean is 20 minutes drive to the North-East, and there are countless places to explore in the Wye valley, forests, rivers, caves, historic buildings and old pubs!
