About Jacqui Snowdon

I was born and raised in North Yorkshire and although I now live in Surrey, I'm a Yorkshire lass at heart and spend as much time as possible in beautiful Helmsley.

Jacqui Snowdon purchased this house in 2017

Why Jacqui Snowdon chose Helmsley

I grew up close to the North York Moors and have always loved the place, and having a home in Helmsley is a dream come true. John and I fell in love with this little cottage, it's right in the heart of town, walking distance to all the shops, cafes, pubs and amenities, but also has it's own parking space which is a godsend in this popular, and therefore very busy town.

What makes this house unique

We have two lovely little dogs and have often taken them on cottage holidays in the past, but it's not always been easy to find a nice place that will take our furry friends. So it was important to us to make this place dog friendly, without compromising on the nice finishing touches for the doggy owners too!

Cosy 2 bedroom cottage in the heart of Helmsley. Pet friendly.

The cottage was not as expected.

  • 1 of 5

The cottage was very clean and well presented. However we were disapoint3ed to find that there were no hand towels or tea towels provided. The position of the cottage was such that we felt very exposed on both sides by passing traffic. We felt we needed to keep blinds down when we were in the lounge as people could see right in as it was gloomy and we needed the lamp on. To the rear we were not aware that it was a loading area for the local restaurant. Again we needed the blind shut as the car was parked right outside the window on several occasions meaning we were unable to use the kitchen easily.

The beds and linen were very clean and comfortable. We felt that a owners book would have been helpful for info re local area and instructions how to use tv etc. Wifi was intermittent but no phone signal.

The village is lovely as we have stayed here before.

Owner's Response: Dear Lauren - I’m so sorry to hear that you had a disappointing stay with us and you felt it was deserving of a 1 star rating, especially as the first line of your review states that the cottage was clean and well presented. I wish you had contacted me during your stay and given me the opportunity to put right the issue with the towels and to help you switch on the TV. I have checked with the housekeeper and she assures me that there were hand towels in the bathroom and bath towels on the beds. The hand towels are good quality so maybe they were mistaken for bath mats? She is sure tea towels were placed in the kitchen but she cannot say 100%, so apologies if they weren’t there – again I wish you would’ve called, text or emailed to let me know and it would’ve been rectified within the hour. We have nets, blinds and curtains in the lounge and blinds in the kitchen to maintain your privacy. The cottage is located in the centre of town in Clothes Prop Alley just off the main street, so locals will use the alley as a cut through to the arts centre. The lane at the back of the cottage services Cornmill cottages and one of the local restaurant’s. It is used by residents only, I’m sorry you felt it was somehow intrusive. We believe we have provided an honest description and representative photos of the property, but we take your comments on board and will make any necessary changes. Regards, Jacqui

Cosy & warm cottage

  • 5 of 5

We had a lovely three night break myself, hubby, two children & our greyhound. The cottage was lovely & warm, it’s in a very central location so no need to go out in the car if you don’t want. Lots of nice tea rooms in the area, nice chip shop and Indian takeaway. The local Bakery & Delicatessen were also nice (we ate lots of nice things whilst away!). Lies of nice shops & walks in the area. We would highly recommend & wouldn’t hesitate in going back.

We’ll be back, very soon!!

  • 5 of 5

We’ve just had our second fabulous stay at Clothes Prop Cottage, Helmsley. We arrived just before New Year to a picture perfect snowy Helmsley - I don’t know who enjoyed the snow the most, us or our spaniel Angus! We love Helmsley and being able to stay right in the centre of town so close to dog friendly shops and pubs is ideal. The cottage is so cosy, a real home from home. Just one problem, I wish I was there now!

Beautiful cottage, extremely tastefully decorated, spotlessley clean, warm and cosy. In the heart of Helmsley but not on the main road so very quiet. Owners so helpful and a lovely surprise left for my husband's birthday. Loved our stay here and will definitely visit again soon.
