This unusual and intimate streamside home is located ten yards from a water-course that tumbles into three pools. Another larger river also freeflows through the property.
The hand-crafted home has an airy layout with excellent views of not only the streams and pools on the site itself but also of the more distant mountains and a waterfall. The main house has one bedroom as well as the living and eating areas and a great lanai. There is a sofa bed in the great room.
Rented with the house, are 2 cottages - one with one bedroom and one single, comfortable sofa bed and full bath, and a smaller screened cottage with a full bed and half-bath. This entire 3 acre property is your private shangra-la as it is only available as one rental and not shared.
The JungleRiverhouse is located just one mile from the nearest beach and is situated midway between, to the east, Hanalei and Lumahai Beaches, and within a 5 mile stretch to the west is situated both the world-renown Tunnels Beach as well as Ke'e beach and the start of the Na Pali Trail..
This home welcomes you with the sounds of cascading waters and songs of myriad birds! Lush jungle vegetation, privacy, relaxation, cool mountain breezes and beauty will surround you. Riverhouse is the epitomy of laid back old rural Hawaii. And the North Shore's famous beaches, restaurants, and eclectic shops are just a few short miles away!
Beware there is a semi-resident kitty cat, ChuChee who is politely fond of a little affection!

Rocky and I, Amanda are only able to stay home here at the Jungle Riverhouse for about half of every year. When we leave Kauai, we generally head to Seattle where our boat is moored. We own and operate a 90 foot fish packer that collects salmon in the Alaskan waters and delivers them to a plant to be filleted and vacuum packed.
Carrie Rose Gibson purchased this house in 1999
Early on we learned that the many humpback whales that we saw in Alaska headed for the Hawaiian Islands to spend the winters. We thought that sounded like an excellent idea and we came here to explore. It was love at first sight with Kauai's North Shore! And then, to have found this place was completely off the charts!
While we are here, we spend a lot of time working on the grounds and also enjoying time with family and friends who always seem to find their way to our doorstep!
To be back a few steps from the busy world is a gift. To be awakened in the morning by bird and river song is a jewel. To wander these grounds is a pleasure. Aloha!
A River House is a spectacular and beautiful getaway set in lush tropical gardens and along a roaring river. A touch of real Hawaii as well, though close to more touristy venues, incredible beaches, and challenging hikes. Great privacy and peace. Owners take pride in property and obviously enjoy sharing it when they are not there.
Even in rainy season, a delight! Would recommend to anyone without reservation.

Everything is clean, new, well thought out to provide refreshing breezes throughout the day. Everything you need to enjoy your time in Kauai is provided (beach towels, snorkeling gear, chairs, etc).
This place is paradises paradise. You can tell that the owners aloha spirit is infused in every part of the property. From the little birds nest (perfect for my 13 year old nephew) to the cottage that comfortably housed my sister, her husband, and 9 year old, to the main house where we all gathered in the morning and evenings, everything, I mean everything surpassed any expectations we had.
The cat chuchee is the most gentle soul. She just hangs out on the lanai resting at your feet providing an extra sense of homeyness.
If you ever get a chance to stay here. Do it. You will have lasting memories of the aloha spirit that will last a lifetime. I hope to be able to stay here again.
Positives-- gorgeous real estate, lot of space. lot of (benign) wildlife to see. cats are there if you like them. during our stay we had a blackout for 1-2 days and were refunded that part of our trip. lets you have a very laid back lifestyle while you are there-- the inside and outside kind of merge together. outdoor (covered, hot) shower if you go to the beaches and stuff so you can clean off before going inside.
-pretty far away from everything on the island (still a small island though)
-has more rain that other parts of the island.
Let me start by saying that we had one of a kind experience at the Jungle Riverhouse. If you are looking for a unique and super comfortable stay then look no further, you have found it. The place is as described on the post and photos, if not less credited for what they really were. My husband and I stayed for one week with our 8 months old baby and two grandmas. We enjoyed every single moment of our experience.
Upon arrival, we were blown away by how spacious and beautiful the property is. Rooms are tastefully decorated and very clean. There is plenty of bedrooms and bathrooms for everyone to have their space and feel comfortable. The garden is absolutely gorgeous with streams running through and amazing plants and flowers abound. There is also a vegetable and herb garden and of course all kinds of fruit trees! We enjoyed taking walks around the property admiring the landscaping and picking lychees which was a kind of tropical fruit in season during the time we were there. It was another treat to be able to fall asleep to the relaxing sound of the stream and wake up to chirping birds.
The property also has all the amenities you can ask for. The kitchen is well stocked with essentials. We were able to make many gourmet meals. We especially appreciated the items they have available for our little one: a nice comfortable crib, pack and play, high chair, tons of beach toys, etc.
The property is about 10 min drive to Hanalei and very close to the cave and Na Pali coast line trail. We all managed to do the Hanakapiai Beach hike which was one of the many highlights of our trip. The views of the Na'pali coast were simply breathtaking.
Rocky and Amanda are very nice and helpful. They were prompt in answering our questions and accommodating since we had a change in our flight schedule. They and their property manager checked in with us a couple of times during our stay to make sure we had everything we needed which we appreciated. We highly recommend this place and look forward to our return to Kauai and staying there again.
Even more than the exceptional cleanliness of this estate; even more than the tasty decorating; even more than the well set up kitchen; more than all that, just the sunshine hitting you on your face first thing in the morning sitting on the lanai and gazing down on a landscape of rushing water courses and an incredible park - that's what completely blew my mind! This place is like no other!
I did wonder whether the kids and my friends would be mad at me for not booking on the beach this time. We are all lovers of Kauai and try to return every couple of years. I was looking for something different and thought that the JungleRiverhouse might be a hoot. And it was! We found ourselves going to the beach every morning (if it was not raining) and then tired we would go "home". Ah! the Riverhouse would be there for us, airy and comfortable. We would send the kids to play games on the spacious grounds and settle onto the lanai, drinks in hand and the barbecue on. Oh, so good!
I admit there was more than one day when some portion of us would stay home to play on the lawns and frolic in the rivers. And then we would have pitchers of freshly squeeze tangerine and orange juice to greet the others when they returned. There is nothing quite like a jungle rain forest. There is nothing quite like frolicking in a wild flowing stream. We all thought so - it was unanimous - I had picked extremely well!!!
Do come and see for yourself.
My wife and I have stayed in many a vacation rental in our lives but never have we encountered the sense of deep peace that the Jungle Riverhouse emanates. Maybe it comes from the stereophonic lullaby of the rivers, maybe it comes from the landscaping filled with so many different and spectacular plants (many of which are edible) and maybe it just comes from sitting on the lanai in the morning with your coffee waiting for the sun to burst with brilliance warming you to your very toes and starting another day. I ponder why and think to return here again to find out exactly!!!
The famous Na Pali Trail starts less than 5 miles from Riverhouse. It is a 11 mile hike into valleys and beaches that are completely undeveloped. It is a hike best done with at least a 3 day timeframe.
Other epic hikes are also available not only on the North Shore but also throughout the island.
The beaches also provide beautiful and long stretches of the best sandy walks ever!
But be very careful - you could just fall in love with Kauai!
