About the property

Quiet, rural, picturesque, 3 rooms, 170 m2 on two levels

The Ciste, or Rockrose in English, is a shrub from the Cistaceae family found along the many hiking paths around the Mas, which you will surely discover during your stay with us. The shrub is profusely covered with beautiful white or pink flowers at the time of blossom, from May to July.

The Mas des Cistes forms part of a small medieval hamlet named the Mas de Sellier. Built in 1711, originally as a goat farm, the hamlet sits on a rocky outcropping of the foothills that overlook the beautiful Cèze river valley. The Cèze itself is winding, calm and rugged, and attracts tourists from around the region.

The Mas is quietly isolated, with a spectacular view over the Cèze valley to the East and the Cévennes and Ardèche Mountain ranges to the North, only 1.5 km from the medieval village of Saint André d’Olérargues.

The Location: The Mas des Cistes is ideally located on a hillside with a beautiful view, surrounded by vineyards, olive trees and orchards. It is quiet and restful, close to many historic and interesting sites and activities. Approximately 45 km from Avignon and Nimes, 21 km from Uzès, 36 km from Pont-du-Gard and 100 km from the Mediterranean.

Swimming is allowed on many parts of the Cèze river. Mediterranean beaches are at about 100 km, at le Grau du Roi, or La Grande Motte. Bagnols-sur-Ceze is 14 km away, for supermarkets, museums, and city life. Goudargues, only 6 km away, has excellent restaurants, cafes and bars, medical facilities, banks, shops, and a supermarket.

The Mas is in the heart of the Cotes de Rhone, close to many wine cooperatives Famous vineyards, such as Chateauneuf-du-Pape, Tavel, Lirac, and Laudun are all within 30 km.

The friendly village of Saint André d'Olérargues, which has a lovely restaurant and a grocery store, is only a 15 minute walk away

The House - inside: The Mas des Cistes was originally built in 1711, and beautifully renovated in 2011 to modern standards. The house boasts huge bay windows as well as a large, 30 m2 terrace, all with a stunning view of the Cévennes and Ardèche foothills.

The Mas has 3 bedrooms, is tastefully appointed with period furniture, and can sleep up to seven people. The main floor has a kitchen, living / dining area a newly renovated wash room, and a large bedroom with a comfy king-size Thai bamboo bed – ideal for a couple. The upper floor has a large bedroom with a queen-sized bed, a fully-appointed wash room with bath and walk-in shower, and a smaller room with a single bed and two bunk beds – ideal for children.

All rooms have beautiful, exposed beams and stone walls, which have remained essentially unchanged for 300 years. The vaulted cellar caves are fully intact, a testament to the past. The stone architecture keeps the house cool in summer, and warm in winter.

The House - outside: The 30 m2 terrace, with a stunning view over the Cèze valley, and as far away as the Cévennes and Ardèche foothills, is ideal for sunbathing, breezy evenings accompanied by a glass of cool rosé wine from the local vineyards, and to contemplate the stars.

The private, intimate, stone-walled courtyard has an attractive garden and a patio table and chairs, ideal for tasty barbecues.

Guests are welcome to bring their dog, on condition that it stays in the courtyard. As some guests may be allergic to animals, we prefer that they not enter the house.

The mas has immediate access to nature: numerous hiking trails, vineyards and orchards are within a moment's walk, where you will see Rockroses (Cistes) in full bloom from May to July, and fields of lavender in bloom in June and July.

An excellent restaurant is a 15 minute walk from the Mas in the village of Saint André d'Olérargues. The closest town is Goudargues (about 9 km), and the closest city is Bagnols-sur-Ceze (about 14 km). Pets are welcome, but we prefer that they stay in the enclosed courtyard and not enter the house itself. Please, no smoking in the house!

A week with a view!

  • 4 of 5

Booked the house long in advance to meet friends for a week amongst the vines, saw this character property which was just the ticket.

Property was as described in a cluster of buildings loads of character, but the stand out for us was the Terrace. An amazing view down the Ceze Valley we spent as long as we could every night up there watching storms rolling in and stars rolling out!

The area is full of things to explorer with a tonne of tucked away vineyards and the big names all within 10-45min drive. Lavender, Grapes and Olives on the door step.

Car essential, no Wifi\internet connection. Annick and Michel where very obliging hosts, certainly recommend the property.

traumhafter Ausblick und mehr in Südfrankreich

  • 5 of 5

  • 5 of 5

Maravillosa escapada

  • 5 of 5
