Make Your Colorado Vacation a Memorable One!
We live in Mantiou Springs and work in education. Although we love Manitou, we also love being able to get away to Salida for nice relaxing weekends when we are able to.
Eileen or Wally purchased this house in 2004
As we said earlier, we wanted a place to get away to that was within a reasonable distance from our home in Manitou Springs. We fell in love with Salida and were fortunate enough to find one of the very few available homes on the river. We just couldn't pass it up!
The house and neighborhood are surprisingly quiet considering how close it is to downtown. All the traffic turns before they come down Sackett unless they live on that street, which is only 3 blocks long. We have the Arkansas River in our backyard, and all the downtown shops and restaurants are a short walk away (one block). We are 20 minutes from Monarch and less than a mile from the Salida Golf Course. There are no limits to the things you can do in and around Salida and we think that we were more than lucky to have found a house in this particular location. We love it there.
Within walking distance of fine dining, shopping, biking, hiking, fly-fishing, kayaking, tubing and more, Rio Perdido, with its fenced lawn leading to a wide deck right on the Arkansas River, is the perfect place to spend time in Salida. In a lovely neighborhood, it's an older home with plenty of charm and a very well equipped kitchen that opens onto a deck; it's got plenty of natural light, and it's a clean, quiet place to enjoy in all seasons.
The owners, Wally & Eileen, are delightful people who care about their guests and make every effort to see to their comfort.
We did not have running water for almost two days! House is very old, and the only bathroom tub backed up and so everytime we ran water, the bathtub filled up. We were afraid of flooding the place, so we had zero use of water for half of our stay. The owner couldnt get a plumber there until our last day, so after two days of skiing, having a ten month old, and a dog, it was pretty miserable. The owner told us we would be compensated for not having use of any water for half of our stay, but its three weeks later and she still has not made things right. Filed a complaint with VRBO because she will not do the right thing. The floor boards in the master bedroom are also breaking and be careful you might fall through the floor. Location is great, but its over priced for as old and in the condition the house is in. Very disappointed with this stay as we rent in Salida from VRBO every year for the last five years.... this is the first property we ever had a bad experience with. Do not get stuck disappointed on your vacation by having no water!
Nice and quiet. River Access was nice. Home clean and just what we needed.
We really enjoyed our stay in Salida. The location of this property is absolutely perfect. We could walk to a park, drinks, dinner, shops, the river, everything. The property was well maintained, quiet and clean. The bathroom/laundry was a bit awkward, but everything worked. We will stay there again if our travels take us to Salida. We heartily recommend Moonlight Pizza and Brewpub. We took a trip to the fish hatchery (driving) and enjoyed feeding the fish.
We had a very relaxing weekend at this property. The location of this house is great for walking to restaurants and shops downtown, hiking and biking trails and river activities. The house has plenty of space for four to six people. The owners were very responsive to emails and made the process very easy. Great weekend getaway!
Eileen and Wally couldn't have been more accommodating. It was a comfortable home with great yard and easy access to the Arkansas River. Perfect location for all activities and walking distance to most. Definitely plan to make this trip again.
