Overview

About the property

2 bedroomed converted boathouse and lime kiln with magnificent views

The Boathouse is an idyllic cottage on the spectacular Fowey River Estuary, just two miles from Fowey and a step away from the water’s edge. A converted boathouse and lime kiln, the cottage is one of the oldest buildings in the picturesque village of Golant.

Comfortable and welcoming with magnificent views across the river, there is a log fire for cosy winter holidays and a private terrace ideal for spring and summer barbecues.

The accommodation is reversed so that the living area has the benefit of the wonderful views over the river. In this light and airy room, white walls and prints complement a mixture of antiques and quality furnishings, with the dining area looking out over the inner harbour.

Driving instructions: Driving along the A380 towards St Austell, take the B3269 left, which is signposted to Fowey (it also has a signpost to the Hidden Valley Gardens).

Continue along the B3269, after about 3 miles you'll come to some pale-green/white farm buildings followed shortly by a staggered crossroad, take the left turning signposted to Golant.

Keep following this road towards the river, at the waterfront it turns to the right, continue past the no through-fare sign, The Boathouse is less than a hundred yards on the right.

Fantastic location and cottage

  • 5 of 5

Outstanding, lovey location, fantastic cottage, lovely cream tea welcome, great sun terrace, nice Pub and landlord 100 yards away with good beer and food, fantastic views, and a small football pitch for the kids, oh yes, and canoe hire right next door. Do you need anything else?? :-)

Excellent, cannot be faulted

  • 5 of 5

Delightfully warm welcome received from Judith with cream tea - just what was needed after a long journey. Cottage cannot be faulted. Excellent furnishings with every comfort taken care of. Golant is a charming sleepy village with friendly pub with good food and the Cormorant Hotel is a must for lunch on the terrace on a sunny day. Don't come here is you want retail action and kiss me quick hats but if you have taste and want somewhere soothing to the soul then this is the cottage for you. Bring your own boat and moor it outside then pootle along the River Fowey and out to sea ... We loved the cottage so much we are already planning our next trip and cannot recommend it highly enough.

Perfect

  • 5 of 5

On arrival at The Boathouse, wefound a lovely Cornish tea, scones, currant loaf, clotted, cream, butter and jam!

Fresh flowers in the living room and fresh herbs in the kitchen.

The cottage is truly a home from home. Very well stocked kitchen with lots of pans, casserole dishes, crockery and glasses.

Comfy beds, lots of towels for the bathroom etc.

Judith is a friendly, thoughtful host and was on hand to answer any questions.

I wish we had could have stayed for more then eight days, it's one of the nicest homes we have ever rented and we have rented dozens!!

Thank you Judith, I recommend your beautiful Boathouse a 100%.

Property is beautifully decorated & very well equipped. Super river views. Peaceful, but good base.

  • 5 of 5

The cream tea, wine and chocolate on arrival set the tone for the welcome and attention to detail. The owner, Judith, takes a real pride in the property and ensuring you have a super stay. The quality of furnishing, decoration and equipment ensures you feel relaxed and comfortable. Views across the whole river from the windows and lovely sun terrace make this an idyllic location. We were so glad we chose this accommodation. Fowey is a pretty place with good shops and restaurants. Pol Ruan also is lovely and the coastal path from there to Polperro has great views.

Outstanding in every way

  • 5 of 5

The Boathouse was beautifully located and equipped. Really quiet, peaceful spot, but with lots to see on the river all the time. As canoeists we enjoyed being able to launch our canoe straight from the house and explore the local creeks. Tons to see and do in the local area from walking the coast path to visiting National Trust properties. We had a fantastic, relaxing holiday.

Charming cottage in a lovely village

  • 5 of 5

We arrived in the evening after following the tree canopied lane that led us to a gorgeous view of the river. The road was partly flooded by high tide, adding to the charm. Judith was unable to greet us, but when we walked through the door the welcome we received was magnificent. The interior of the boathouse is very well appointed with beautiful colours, fresh flowers, and a set table full of cream tea delights. Scones, raisin bread, clotted cream, jam, lemonade, and more. The three of us felt so very welcome. If I could rate this property, and of course Judith, with ten stars I would. The village is filled with friendly people, many of whom we met at the Fisherman Arm's Pub. I highly recommend the pub as the food is quite delicious and Steve and Anne Marie could not be nicer. The patrons are also willing to chat and engage in conversation. The location of Golant is perfect for any sightseeing one would want to do. We went all over, from Land's End to Tintagel.

Judith goes out of her way to ensure the comfort of her guests as is realised by the extra touches ( too many to mention here) that she provides. I highly recommend this property for anyone wanting a special holiday in a special area of Cornwall. Again, I would give Judith ten stars if I could.

Restaurants, pubs and stunning scenery are within walking distance, while sandy beaches, historical sites such as Restormel Castle and Lanhydrock House, and the famous Eden Project are a short drive away.

In Summertime there’s a range of activities, and even in high summer the village of Golant remains one of Cornwall’s best-kept secrets as a peaceful waterside retreat. Autumn & Winter holidays are popular too, with the nearby oyster festival and Christmas & New Year celebrations.Golant is an ancient fishing village on the Fowey River Estuary, just two miles from Fowey. The area is steeped in fascinating history, with the last battle between Cromwell's army and the Royalists having taken place nearby in 1644, and many of Daphne du Maurier's novels set in the vicinity.

This stretch of the Fowey River is equally famous as the inspiration for Kenneth Graham's The Wind In The Willows.
