A spacious and sympathetically restored 18th Century barn, with three double bedrooms and three ensuite bathrooms, huge galleried lounge and fitted kitchen and diner. The kitchen has a dishwasher, microwave, oven, hob, large fridge, coffee maker & washing machine. The property sits in an acre of garden, with far-reaching views over pasture and woodlands. The hamlet of La Besse is within the stunning Perigord-Limousin Regional Parc, a protected environment of ancient woodlands, valleys, swimming lakes and rivers. The barn is surrounded by lanes and trails that are ideal for cycling and running, yet the villages of Vayres and Saint Matthieu are just minutes away by car, with their bakeries, cafes, supermarkets and typical French bars.
The larger town of Rochechouart is eight minutes drive, boasting a famous chateau and the site where a meteor struck, and St Junien a further 10 minutes away with its huge Collegiate gothic church, shops, boutiques and a weekly market.

The property was as described with loads of room and well maintained - many thanks The only drawback was the visit of bird(s) trapped in the chimney flue on several occasions.
Sorry to hear about the birds, Andrew. That must have been a bit startling. We will look to see how to stop that happening again, thanks for letting us know. Thanks for choosing the barn for your holiday,
Beautiful restored barn in a perfect location
A lovingly restored barn located perfectly for a truly relaxing holiday. We loved spending time at the property, dining on the terrace, playing one of the many ball games (table tennis, badminton and football), darts and enjoying the many walks from the barn. We visited the nearby towns and in particular we liked Rochechouart with its Chateau, Meteorite Museum and many Patisseries and visiting the world famous cave paintings at Lascaux, a 90 minute drive away but well worth the journey. The lake at Vidiex became a favourite of ours which has a lovely café, beach and safe swimming for our three young daughters and only a 15 minute drive away. A wonderful holiday and we would definitely make a return visit.
Dear Lynsey and Robert,
Thank you so much for your review and I am really delighted you had such a good holiday. Am hoping the trip has launched a table tennis, badminton, football or darts champion from among your three daughters.
We very much look forward to having you next year.
Beautiful spacious property full of character and set in a lovely tranquil setting.
Enjoyed both the house itself and the surrounding countryside. Would particularly recommend swimming at the lake at Videix, but also enjoyed walking in the countryside around La Besse, playing some very competitive table tennis and having long leisurely meals on the terrace. We plan to come again next year!
Thank you so much for your review. We're delighted you had a great holiday. See you next year!
A beautiful, comfortable house in a very quiet area
We enjoyed our stay in this house very much: it is a beautiful, big house with a lot of ambiance. There is a good and well equiped kitchen. It is also very suitable for children, there are enough possibilities for indoor and outdoor games.
The house is situated in a quiet area with a lot of privacy in a green and rural area. It is very easy to visit from here all kinds of interesting villages and towns; hiking in this area is also pleasant.
We hope to come back again to this comfortable house!

Merci Suzy !
We're so glad you enjoyed your holiday in the barn, Cecile. Thank you for such positive feedback. We hope to see you again,
Thank you very much for your positive comments. We are very glad you enjoyed your stay at the barn and had a great holiday. Thank you for choosing our property.
The swimming lakes at Saint-Mathieu 4km away, and Vidiex (10km), are stunning all year round, with sandy beaches, sailing, pedalos and lovely restaurants serving local food. Surrounded by forests they are wonderful for walking as well as swimming. Directly outside the house are trails across beautiful countryside, criss crossed with rivers and streams that provide wonderful running and cycling routes. At Rochechouart, (13km) is a museum dedicated to the 50m tonnes meteorite that landed there 10 million year ago, plus a 13-century chateau offering temporary art exhibitions. St Junien is the nearest biggest town, 20 minutes away, with many shops, restaurants, a weekly indoor market and a large monthly outdoor market. The town is known for its glove making and the gloves worn by President Trump at his inauguration were made at St-Junien. The town has a fantastic indoor and outdoor pool with sun loungers and slides. Five minutes from Saint-Junien is the 18-hole golf club, Golf de St-Junien, also with a pool, hotel and fantastic restaurant. There's another 18-hole course at Golf International De La Preze, 17km away. South of the house is the beautiful town of Nontron, 23km away, famous for manufacturing all manner of knives - they will make a knife for you on the spot to your own design - which is also where you can find Perigord Vert Adventures - a theme park with treetop walks, zip wires over lakes, climbing, swimming and cycling.
