A lovely summer break

  • 5 of 5

We booked quite late so weren't sure if we'd missed the best places so we were over the moon when we arrived to find Robin Cottage. Perfect location for exploring Cornwall, extremely quiet, a lovely garden with BBQ and a well appointed kitchen. Wendy (the owner) gave us some fresh tomatos from her greenhouse and a lovely bottle of wine - both went down very well indeed! The secure off street parking was also very much appreciated as were the fluffy white towels and a few 'essentials' to get us started. If you're looking for a quiet place with the best pub in Cornwall a 2 minute stroll away and all that St Mawes has to offer just 15 mins away in the car then look no further. Highly recommended. James, Polly and Alfie :)

A Great Stay in a Great Cottage

  • 5 of 5

The cottage was lovely, very clean and a excellent location for our stay. The gardens were nice, although I wish the weather was better so we could have used them more. The pub across the road was friendly and nice food.

A very relaxing break

  • 5 of 5

Cottage (which was a good size) was easy to find from directions and a warm welcome awaited from the owner (and her little jack russell, Jenny). Local pub with good food within walking distance. Plenty of places to visit whether you want beach, country or city. So peaceful with our own "two" patios and garden which was lovely to come back to after going out exploring. Shame we weren't staying for two weeks but hope to visit again one day. Very friendly and helpful owner.

Ruan Lanihorne is a charming village with an historic church dating from the 14th Century and a superb pub - the King's Head. The area is truly beautiful countryside. Venture across Sett Bridge towards the magnificent Lamorran Woods and you will undoubtedly see an abundance of wildlife with waders and waterfowl inhabiting the tidal marshes. It is a haven for those wanting to explore and get off the beaten track, yet within easy reach of many attractions. An adventurous ride through the woods and you are awarded the delights of Tregothnan Estate, home to the Boscawen family since 1335, complete with teas and honey made on the Estate. Nearby Fentongollan Farm producing module vegetable plants and a fabulous collection of cornish daffodil bulbs.

There is an excellent pub at the nearby village of Philleigh, The Roseland Inn which serves good food. There are also pubs in Veryan, Portloe, Portscatho & St Mawes. There are general stores available at Portscatho, Tregony & Veryan. St Mawes has a wider selection of services. The city of Truro is about a 25 minute drive and has some superb shopping. There are fine dining restaurants in nearby hotels such as the Driftwood Hotel at Rosevine and the Tresanton at St Mawes. The beaches of Pendower, Carne & Porthcurnick are all within a 10 minute drive. The Roseland has some wonderful gardens to visit and the Lost Gardens of Heligan are about 20 minutes away. There are miles of spectacular coastline to discover along the South West Coast Path.
