About the property

Family-friendly house in Wembury, Plymouth.

Leewood is a large family-friendly holiday home that's also great for friends getting together. We are located 5 minutes drive from Wembury beach and 20 minutes from historic Plymouth. The accommodation has a large kitchen/diner, which is well-equipped for self-catering. It has a master bedroom with en-suite shower, two kingsize bedrooms and a twin room. It can comfortably sleep 8 adults. There is also a family bathroom, lounge with balcony, 0.5 acre garden and a utility/boot room with washing machine.

The kitchen includes a Rangemaster oven, dishwasher and fridge freezer.

Sliding doors lead onto the level lawn and further on to a mature hillside garden. With the driveway gates shut, the site is enclosed and a great place for kids and dogs to explore. The garden backs onto woodland and is situated very close to the entrance to Hollacombe Wood.

Leewood is situated a 20 minute drive from Plymouth City Centre with access to the Barbican, Drake Circus Shopping Mall and Plymouth Hoe. There is easy access to the A38 taking you into Cornwall or up onto Dartmoor. The A379 will take you to the idyllic South Hams coastline and lovely beaches like Thurlestone, Hope Cove and on to Salcombe.

Wembury village has a Spar & Post Office, Salon, The Odd Wheel Public House and the 15th c. church of St Werburgh's. It's close to the Langdon Court Hotel, Down Thomas, Bovisand and Heybrook Bay. Wembury Beach, a National Trust site, has a Marine Centre, cafe, toilets and is situated on the South West Coast Path.

There are many beautiful and interesting places to visit for days out. I have included a list of our favourites in the Welcome Book. We live nearby and like to welcome our guests personally. We will then leave you to enjoy the house, but are available should you need us.

We look forward to welcoming you to Wembury.

About Bernie Guthrie

We moved to the West Country from London 7 years ago. We absolutely love it here and our family very quickly settled into life at a slower pace.

Why Bernie Guthrie chose Plymouth

Leewood is a spacious detached house with four bedrooms, sleeping 8 adults comfortably. One room is a twin but the others have kingsize or super kingsize beds. The master bedroom is on the lower ground floor with space for a cot if necessary, giving privacy from other guests. It has an ensuite shower, vanity unit and toilet. Three of the bedrooms overlook the large garden and woodland beyond. It is a great garden for bird watching and just taking in all the best nature has to offer.

The kitchen/diner has lounge seating for 3, dining space for 8, a breakfast bar, large Rangemaster oven, dishwasher, crockery and utensils and loads of storage space. The fridge freezer also has a drinks dispenser. Double doors open back to lead out onto the level part of the lawn. This further leads to a hillside garden with mature shrubs, great for children and dogs to explore. There is a large entrance and hallway with bedrooms at both ends of the hallway, giving privacy to couples in each room. The upstairs lounge has seating for 6 adults but extra seating can be accommodated using the garden chairs out on the balcony. The lounge has double doors leading onto the balcony overlooking the garden and woodland beyond. We are 2 mins from the entrance to Hollacombe Woods, which is great for dog walking and seeing the local bluebell woods.

A fantastic family holiday in Wembury

  • 5 of 5

We had a lovely stay in this large house in Wembury. The house is situated in the countryside with lovely views all around. Wembury beach is less than 5 minutes drive away. There is a petrol station and well stocked CO-OP a few minutes from the house. which we found very useful. We ate at the local pub The Odd Wheel, the food is lovely and caters extremely well for families and Gluten Free diners, and is excellent value for money.

The house was very clean and well presented. The beds were very comfortable and everything appears brand new.The kitchen is well stocked with all the utensils needed for self catering.

The owners were waiting for us when we arrived and were helpful in settling us in.

There is plenty to do. Plymouth is 20 minutes drive away, with lovely views around the Hoe, and loads of restaurants, cafes and shops. We also visited Dartmoor Zoo one day which was very enjoyable.

We will definitely be returning here again. The accommodation is excellent value for money.

Great Location & Warm Welcome from the Guthrie's

  • 4 of 5

Very well-maintained, clean property which benefits from amazing views down into a valley from the lounge. The hosts Bernie and John were very accommodating, giving us recommendations for places to visit during the day (National Trust Houses, The Hoe, Barbican) etc. I would definitely visit this house again as a weekend was not enough to explore the beautiful countryside.
