Cottage, 2 Bedrooms + 2 Convertible bed(s), 1 Bath, (Sleeps 4-7)
We have travelled all around the country over the years, but the best times have always been spent with family and friends at our places in Connecticut and Florida. Cherished memories have been made there and we are so happy to be able to share our homes with our guests so that they can do the same.
Janet purchased this Cottage in 1996
Why Janet chose Ashford
For as long as I can remember, my dream was to wake up, get a cup of coffee, and walk to the water's edge. We searched and searched for a quiet private lake near our home in Connecticut and came upon this one. It was perfect. Ashford Lake is clean and peaceful. We can see the sunrise every morning. I can't tell you the amount of wildlife I've seen - herons, ducks, geese, and a great surprise - 2 muskrats floating on their backs enjoying the early morning sun, right in front of the cottage! Over the years we have enjoyed 4th of July fireworks, had family picnics, caught a 12-inch bass, gazed in awe at the beautiful fall foliage, and watched an impromptu kids ice hockey game on the frozen lake in a snowstorm in January!
What makes this Cottage unique
More than anything, we enjoy having this special lakefront cottage all to ourselves when we are there. It is secluded, but within less than an hour's drive of many things to do, and if you live in Connecticut, probably close enough to run back to your office if need be, while the rest of the family enjoys the outdoors! Swimming, fishing, star-gazing, games on the lawn, hiking on our dirt roads and nearby trails, visiting nearby UCONN, the antique shops of CT, the Woodstock and Brooklyn Fairs, listening to live music at The Vanilla Bean cafe... There is so much to do, but on the flip side, you can just relax.

The property was clean and had everything we needed. Janet was timely in responding to my emails. We couldn’t have asked for a better lake house vacation and we plan to be back!
Quiet and Comfortable!
Nothing fancy but comfortable and has all the extras you will need! View is to die for...morning coffee on deck and evening wine on the same deck! Fire pit is next to water...star studded sky and croaking frogs and fish jumping in the night! Big yard for lawn games and fishing off the dock.
three days of simplicity
Quaint, comfortable, fully equipped cottage on clean, peaceful pond. We had a wonderful few days as a family: parents, kids, and dogs. We will be back again!
Peaceful and relaxing stay
We had such a great time here. The cottage had everything we needed.
It was such a relaxing and peaceful place, ideal for unplugging and unwinding! The wifi was much faster than we have at home, so when it was needed, it was perfect.
We really enjoyed playing the board games that were there. We had epic games of Clue and chess.
Janet was great to deal. She answered all of our questions in very short order. We had no problems with anything.
We used the rowboat almost every night and caught so many bass.
We brought our dog, who is afraid of water, but the yard is large and and there is always shady spot (which was welcomed), so he enjoyed the outdoors.
I can't say enough about this place. It was just what we needed!
Much needed R & R
My boyfriend and I had a wonderful week vacation at this Ashford property. The area is lush and private and even though we only live an hour away, it felt like a getaway. The house was beautiful, with plenty of natural light and great views of the lake. We had a great time fishing, watching herons on the lake, lounging in the yard, and going into town to the Dairy Bar. When a small issue arose, the owners responded immediately and accommodated us. We were also surprised by how comfortable the furniture is. Overall, a wonderful experience. We will definitely be renting again.
moon shining on the water
