Overview

About the property

Two-bedroom budget apartment with king-size and two single beds -or another king

This is a really central London apartment, yet very low priced, in a quiet, pretty 'mews' (cobbled London street) which has a real feel of London history.

* Perfect if you're flying in to Heathrow - it's on the direct Tube train line from Heathrow.

* Brilliant if you want to be right in the centre - it is within easy walking distance of London's tourist sites

* Convenient if you want plenty of shops, cafes and restaurants close by - The Brunswick shopping mall is just around the corner

* Ideal for morning arrivals - bagdrop is from 11am

* Also ideal for late arrivals - after midnight is not a problem

* Easy to reach for arrivals at St Pancras on the Eurostar or ThamesLink train (for Gatwick or Luton arrivals). From St Pancras it's just an 10 minute walk away down a straight road, or one stop on the Tube.

There is very reliable and fast internet and of course we offer free wifi !

Our apartment is one of the very few "budget category" apartments to be right in the heart of Central London. It is round the corner from the British Museum, and is within walking distance of most of the tourist sights such as Big Ben, Westminster Abbey, the Houses of Parliament, Buckingham Palace, Theatreland, Covent Garden, Trafalgar Square and the London Eye. It's in a great area - there are plenty of cafe's and restaurants just a few minute's walk away, and a choice of three supermarkets around the corner.

The apartment is in the "budget category" because the sitting room is small and because it is in an historic building so the bathroom and kitchen facilities are not new - but are perfectly adequate. So you don't get 'swanky' but you don't get 'costly' either!

The apartment is on the first floor of the building (in the UK that means up one flight of stairs). The interior has lots of character, and has a beautiful original oak floor throughout. Our traditional sash windows (typical of London) let in loads of light and add to the character.

There are two good-sized double bedrooms. One bedroom has a king size brass bed while the other bedroom has two single beds. We can make this up as a king size too, on request. If there are five guests we can also provide a folding bed suitable for a child or small adult ( under 130 lbs) which can be placed alongside the two single beds - ideal if you have three youngsters.

We have chosen lovely beds and high quality mattresses, good linens, soft Egyptian cotton towels and stylish furnishings, so you will have everything you require to get a hotel level of sleeping comfort. All bedrooms have plenty of wardrobe space, bedside tables and lamps. We also provide a soft bath robe and a choice of pillows.

The apartment has a main living room, containing the sitting area, kitchenette, and dining area. The sitting area may be small but it's cosy with three-seater sofa, and satellite TV. Please note, if you are a larger group and all want to watch TV together you may need to use the dining chairs as well as the sofa.

The dining table is extendable so it can be used small if there are just two or three guests, or it can be pulled out to seat up to five. There are five dining chairs.

The small kitchenette is very well equipped so that if you want to self-cater you can cook to your heart's content! We have provided plenty of attractive white crockery, serving dishes, nice glassware and loads of pans, cutlery and utensils. There is a microwave, kettle, cafetiere (french press), teapot, toaster, fridge, a washing machine and a separate tumble dryer.

The flat is well heated with a very efficient gas central heating system. In summer it has the advantage of windows on either side, which provide a good flow of air. We also provide tall freestanding room fans in summer.

We provide free wifi and the broadband signal is strong, reliable and super fast.

This flat offers excellent value for money, especially for families or two couples.

Our location, on an historic London 'mews' street, has loads of history and character. Because this is a narrow cobblestoned street it has no through traffic, so it's astonishingly quiet for a place to stay which is right in the centre of a city.

Bloomsbury is famous for its garden squares and mews, making it one of the most expensive residential areas in the centre of London. It was just the same centuries ago, when the wealthy intellectuals chose Bloomsbury as THE place to live. Charles Dickens and J M Barrie (Peter Pan) lived just around the corner from the apartment, while Virginia Woolf, Charles Darwin, Dante Gabriel Rossetti, Lytton Strachey, and John Maynard Keynes lived in some of the squares nearby. Even Gandhi chose Bloomsbury for his home during his time in London. This is a place that is steeped in history, and you will see many blue plates on the sides of houses as you walk around the streets, telling you who lived there.

The mews still has the original cobblestones while the properties along its length are built from the mellow London brick, characteristic of the 1800's. The residents tend to have huge urns of flowers and window boxes to decorate their homes.

Bloomsbury is also the perfect central area from which to explore London. Please do Google it. You can easily walk to so many tourist sights, and because the Tube station is so close it's really convenient. Our apartment is particularly close to Covent Garden (for the shops and restaurants) and to Theatre land if you fancy a London show. The British Museum is just a short walk. Nowhere is far away, so even if you take a taxi back it will be a short journey and therefore it will not be expensive.

The other big difference between our apartments and many others are the personal touches we offer. We are not a rental company, just an English couple who adore London and enjoy introducing others to all it has to offer. We have carefully furnished and decorated the apartment to this high standard because we really want our guests to have a fantastic time - happy guests mean more to us than high profits. So unlike some apartments, you will not find cheap beds, cheap mattresses, hard pillows...or any of the other horrors you can find with the squeeze-every-penny-of-profit apartment rental companies. We pride ourselves on giving a very friendly, helpful and professional service. We want you to feel you made exactly the right choice!

About Jan

Hello, I'm Janet and I've had a busy life as a journalist and running my own small company. But I'm now taking a bit more time for myself, so running this apartment gives me something to do without taking up all my time. Even so, I've always been a perfectionist - I like everything to work like clockwork, so I think my basic personality and skills are just right for offering this sort of service.

Jan purchased this apartment in 2016

Why Jan chose Bloomsbury

I love mews streets and I love history. If I go abroad and need to find somewhere to stay I would much rather choose a place with some historical interest, some sense of character, than choose a bland hotel. These apartments are definitely not bland!

What makes this apartment unique

The street is quiet yet it's right in the centre so that you can walk to see the sights. That's pretty rare in Central London Also we only charge a modest price because the interior of each flat is not brand new and the living area is fairly tight for space. So it's a good compromise if you really want to be central but can't afford the high prices of other 'swanky' apartments.

Jan's apartment was everything I expected--and then some.

  • 5 of 5

This Bloomsbury gem was "home" to myself, my daughter, and two young granddaughters for ten days. What a perfect location--just minutes from the tube--with many sights within easy walking distance. Situated on a cobblestone street and built amid an old mews, the cozy apartment was always quiet and provided a welcoming place for us to return to after a long day of sightseeing.

Although the apartment is not in the luxury category, our friendly hostess, Jan, provided many luxury items to add to the experience--soft linens, multiple pillows, even a terrycloth robe that I donned every morning. The shower was hot with great water pressure, and Jan provided soaps and shampoos just like the big hotels. Even more important, the apartment was exceptionally clean and equipped with modern appliances--even a washer and dryer.

Staying in the mews contributed greatly to our overall London experience, and we look forward to returning there again one day soon.

This is an ideal location for an apartment in London for tourists. We came by chunnel from Paris and the station is an easy 15 minute walk, our friends came by plane to Heathrow and the Russell square Tube Station is five minutes around the block that takes you directly to Heathrow and meeting them was a snap. (55 minutes back to apartment). The British library is a 15 minute walk, the British Museum the same and Dickens' House less. Bus service is good nearby. The apartment is on a quiet mews with a large shopping center around the corner and up the block. That provides a U.S. sized grocery store, boutiques and lots of decent restaurants of many descriptions. If you feel like you have to eat Shepherd's Pie once there are pubs nearby.

The apartment owners were friendly, fair and helpful. It was a wonderful WIFI, able to keep lots of devices going at the same time. The beds were as good as the bed I sleep in at home, the clothes washer and dryer were easy and worked like a charm. All the expected supplies for a rental apartment were there. You are able to regulate the heat if you follow directions.

Our 81 year old friend said a grab bar in the shower would be nice. It all worked nicely. We were four adults and if you are as many and as large and you go to London to spend all your time in the apartment then you might find it cramped. It was O.K. for us.

I thank the owners who have obviously put care and thought into this operation.

This apartment is in a fabulous area and convenient to many facilities. Whilst quite small in size it still manages to be comfortable and pleasant.

Wonderful base to explore London

  • 5 of 5

We had a fantastic stay at Jan’s cozy flat for 6 nights with our two teenagers (15 and 17). The key points that made our stay:

- Jan was wonderful to work with, she arranged early access as we got to the flat at 12:30 after 13 hours travel, we mentioned some questions about the plug adapters and she left two for us to use, she stocked a few basics like coffee and milk to get us by - some of the really thoughtful details that made our stay.

- the location cannot be beat, you can walk to covent garden, Piccadilly, the west end yet you are in a very local area with university students and grocery stores - doesn’t feel touristy at all. The Russell square station is one block away to easily get to further sites.

- we enjoyed coffee at the little Coffee shop right in the Russell square park, the Italian restaurant Jan recommended on Lamb conduit and stopped in the shopping center across from the tube stop everyday. Lamb pub is a fun hangout right next to the Italian restaurant.

- one last point is the beds were so very comfortable!

As accurately shown in the pictures, the living area is quite small so we didn’t hang out in the apartment much but it was absolutely perfect after a long day of sights to quickly get “home” to a quiet, comfy place to sleep, then get up and do it all over again. Thanks, Jan!!!

Outstanding place!!

We arrived via Heathrow Airport, (Piccadilly Line) direct to Russel Sq station (about 1 hour trip) and found it was an easy walk to the flat with suitcases. We had a wonderful time in London and the location of this flat was key for us. We found the Russell tube station also easy for our needs to travel throughout the city.

The 2 bedroom flat was perfect for our family of 4, 2-adults and a 16/12 year old kids. We found the property to be very clean and it had everything we needed for our comfort. There is a Waitress grocery at the Brunswick centre and two pubs at the nearby: one at the end of the mews (Friend at Hand) and the other one 3 blocks away, "The Marquis Cornwallis" were tops on our list of this neighborhood.

From the beginning of the rental process to the end the owner was on top of everything. We contact Jan via mail for a couple of issues with the shower and she manage to fix it immediately, that was really great. Actually we met in person with Jan and we she is a lovely person. Any questions I had were always quickly answered via email. Many thank you Jan for a wonderful experience and we would absolutely recommend this place!
