The spacious (600 square feet) apartment is located in St Germain des Pres on the lovely Rue du Cherche-Midi, steps away from the Bon Marche department store. The building was once a convent and the cobblestone courtyard and terraced walkways have been lovingly preserved.
The apartment is on the first floor (one flight of stairs up) overlooking the peaceful courtyard. It was entirely refurbished in Fall 2005. The large living room features two large windows and very high ceilings with original oak beams. There is a desk, a coffee table, television, and two comfortable couches (both convertible). The decorations are a harmonious mixture of beige and dark wood with plum accents.
There is a designer open kitchen with breakfast bar. The kitchen is also newly redone and is comprehensively equipped with ceramic hob, oven, refrigerator and separate freezer, dishwasher, washing machine, microwave, and coffee maker. The breakfast bar comfortably seats four people and is the perfect place to have coffee in the morning and meals throughout the day.
The bedroom has a large window, comfortable queen-sized bed with wooden bed frame and matching side tables and wardrobe. There is also a spacious built-in wardrobe. The bathroom has been completely redone in pale blue tiles. It has a bathtub and a wall-mounted power shower fixture with a glass shower screen.
It is a perfect location, should you wish to take a French language course at Alliance Francaise, or a cooking course at Patricia Wells cooking School.
We have stayed at this apartment multiple times and enjoy the amazing neighborhood feeling. It is walkable to many of the main attractions and also very close to several subway lines. If you like to cook the 3 times weekly Raspail market is just down the street. There is a bakery just beside the apartment for delicious baguettes, croissants and a multitude of other pastries. Apartment is clean, well stocked with an open kitchen and large fridge. Very comfortable bed. An excellent choice for a visit to Paris.
First stay in February and we're planning to return in 2016. Amenities: Spacious, convenient to wonderful shopping (e.g., boutiques, bric-a-brac, boulanger. Poste), nearby metro, neighborhood grocery that's stocked with fresh offerings plus the Grand Epicèrie is just down the street located in Bon Marché, washer and dryer within the apt. and a fabulous kitchen with stove/oven, refridge, mictrowave, etc. Eirwen, on site manager, was wonderful in meeting all of our needs on the day we contacted her. Being on the premier étage (one flight walk up) was also a real "find" after renting many 5 - 6th floor walkups! One limitation: la salle de bain avec la toilette - the bathtub/shower, lavatory and toilet occupy the same room and may pose an inconvenience depending on the number of renters.
This apartment is perfect. It's beautiful, fully stocked with washer, dryer, dishwasher, etc. The kitchen is pretty big, with a breakfast-bar-type-thing, which opens onto the living room. Extremely genial and friendly feeling. The ceilings are beautiful old wood beams. Everything is in tip-top shape and the building itself is right out of the 18th century -- when you walk in, a statue of a woman holding aloft a lamp greets you as you enter the cobblestone courtyard. The managers are also friendly, helpful, and accommodating. The neighborhood couldn't be better, and nearly everything you'll want to do is walkable.
I pretty much echo the review from Tom of North Carolina. Comfortable apartment in a brilliant location with a number of Metro stations within easy walking distance and the famous Poilane boulangerie just down the road and another good one just outside the front door. The reservation experience was good and Eirwen was always there to answer any questions. Local support was also good from Lis who very helpful. The only slight negative was (for me and my bank), the complex method of bank transfer payment to a non French bank in euros, this can surely be improved.
We enjoyed our week's stay in this apartment, and especially the location, only a few minutes walk from the Bon Marche Grand Epicerie, and even closer to many other shops, especially the great patisserie next door, Only a few blocks away is the Raspail street market 3X a week. Every apartment has strong and weak points. The strong points are the location, it was well lighted, everything worked, it was quiet, there was plenty of hot water, and the agent, Solene, was responsive to special requests. The minuses: it's a bit shabbier than in the photos, wi-fi was slow, kitchen utensils are sparse and the pans beat-up (but OK for reheating takeout food), the bed was very hard (but not saggy).
It was one of the few apartments we have seen and rented in Paris that was very accurately described. My wife and I spent a very pleasant week there. It was spacious with a very workable kitchen. Allof the appliances were very good. The bathroom size was very adequate. Would we stay there again? ABSOLUTELY. I have to add Soleine was also a big help.
