A Gem of a Cornish Cottage in St Agnes - The Heart of Poldark Country

Bedrooms 2
Property type cottage
Minimum Stay 3 - 7 nights

About the property

2 Bedrooms, 2 Luxury Bathrooms and far reaching views of Cornish Countryside

Our historic, Grade 2 listed Tin Miners Cottage is idyllically situated along a Cornish Lane, only accessible by foot, in true Poldark country. It's truly romantic!

Pubs, restaurants, a child friendly beach and shops are in walking distance while the Cottage itself delivers authentic luxury, far reaching vistas, wonderful sunsets, peace and quiet. The ambiance and the outdoor spaces are gorgeous and our local beach, Trevaunance Cove, is a one mile walk.

Wrens Nook is good for both couples and families with children. Couples love the privacy and peaceful location, indeed we attract quite a few Honeymoon couples.

Children can play safely within in the walled garden and ours love the (quality) bunk beds, saying hello to the sheep in the field next door and the many outdoor spaces to play.

This is true Poldark country and Wrens Nook is an original Tin Miners Cottage built in the 1700's. It's got loads of original features including the original sash windows, cupboards, stairs and wood panelling. You can live like Poldark for a week.

There is a double bed in the original 1700's bedroom with a marvellous ensuite attached. There's also really good quality adult double bunk bed and mattresses in the room where the Tin Miners many children used to sleep. Recent renovations included a fabulous garden room, a new kitchen and a smart downstairs bathroom and utility room.

We keep all 11 Poldark novels at the cottage and St Agnes was the inspiration for St Anns, the village in the Winston Graham books. Read one while you are at the cottage.

Idyllically situated on a narrow and twisting Cornish Lane that was built for the odd horse and cart, you park on Goonown Lane and begin your holiday as you mean to go on. Walk down this lovely Lane towards the Cottage and you will immediately begin to relax as you see horses, sheep and cows grazing and you take in the long ranging views. It's a holiday where you can get that fit bit working for you! You can walk to pubs, shops and the beach so Wrens Nook offers you a different way of life.

There is a small parking space for a tiny car at the front of the house but driving down the lane is not for the fainthearted. It is 5ft 5in places and many cars get stuck! It's much easier to ditch the car and walk. On arrival, if your check in day is Friday, Saturday or Monday and you arrive between 3pm and 6pm we try to arrange a meet and greet between you and our housekeeper so she can help with luggage. All other days we give you a ma and fear instructions. You'll park at the end of the lane and it's a five minute walk to the cottage with your luggage. It can get muddy on the lane in the autumn, so bring wellies - but it is worth the effort as our spot on the lane is stunning.

About Pete and Ruth Gawthorpe

Hello. We are the Gawthorpes and we have owned this property for 47 years! Pete is a retired Detective and Ruth is a Director of People and Transformation.

Pete and Ruth Gawthorpe purchased this cottage in 1970

Why Pete and Ruth Gawthorpe chose Saint Agnes

We love Wrens Nook. Generations of the Gawthorpe family have holidayed here. Now our Grandchildren come and enjoy the cottage and Trevaunance Cove.

What makes this cottage unique

It's a special place where we unwind. The views and the sunsets are just glorious. We have tried to keep the authenticity and historical elements of the cottage in tact while introducing some luxury. It's off the beaten track....literally. You access the cottage on foot.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Our parents first came across Wrens Nook when they honeymooned here in 1959. The start of a real life love story. Now we welcome quite a few Honeymooners who love the peace and tranquility. Wrens Nook is a real piece of Cornish Romance! If you are celebrating a special event please let us know.

Fantastic lovely stay!

  • 5 of 5

Fantastic stay, really lovely scenery. We was made aware that access to the property may be a challenge depending on our car so we parked on the street down the lane and this turned out to be a blessing!. The short walk to the cottage was stunning, the scenery was beautiful and due to the road being narrow it was lovely to distance ourself from normal traffic noise and make the most of the beautiful scenery and nature.

We can't wait to visit again, and couldn't recommend this property enough, it had recently been decorated and was such a pleasant atmosphere, the owners were fantastic and everything was ready for us when we arrived.

Looking forward to our lovely trip again soon.
