Located in East Yorkshire , close to the seaside town of Hornsea and it's Blue Flag Beaches, in the small coastal village of Mappleton, a mere 200 meter flat walk to the sandy beach , The Old Vicarage sits inside it's own walled garden of one acre with large lawn and apple trees . Tastefully restored retaining rustic charm , period features and wooden floors complimented by hand made French Tomette terracotta tiles and heritage paints . The ground floor features a large kitchen with Rayburn stove , full size Whirlpool USA refrigerator , dishwasher , microwave , and an open plan dinning room with fireplace . The lounge has a working open fireplace, wooden panelling , window shutters and sash windows with views across open countryside. There is also a separate snug with TV , books , CDs, DVD Player, plus a utility room with washing machine and ground floor washroom.

An elegant stripped wooden staircase with arched window leads to the large first floor landing , 4 large bedrooms ( 1 on-suite ) and family bathroom.

The furnishings at The Old Vicarage have been selected over a number of years at French Flea markets , English auction houses ,California swap meets and make for an eclectic backdrop in which to getaway from it all , relax , unwind , reflect and re-charge after a long walk on the sandy beach.

There four large bedrooms which can easily sleep up to 8 people ( plus a cot bed is also available ).

Bedroom one : Master bedroom with super king size bed , on -suite bathroom and sash windows with duel aspect views to open country

Bedroom two : Twin room / 2 single beds with sash window overlooking the garden and sash window with open views to country.

Bedroom three : Double bedroom , sash window with open view to country.

Parking : Ample parking space is available within the walled garden with electric gate.

In the village , the Old Post Office Tea Room & Shop is located 100 metres down the road from The Old Vicarage , overlooking the sea .There is a Garage, Church and Fresh Eggs are available from the local Farm.

The local farmers and fisherman go about their daily routines , while local leisure activities include cycling, swimming, walking, surfing, horse riding , fishing , paragliding , kiteboarding .Plus there is paddle boating at Hornsea Mere . It is a flat 800 meter walk to the local pub, The Cross Keys which serves hand drawn ales and a full food menu.

Nearby in the area is the historical market town of Beverley with it's Minster , Theatre , Racecourse and Eateries . RSPB Bempton Cliffs, Fraisthorpe Beach are along the coast road , and the attractions Hull's City of Culture - The Deep , Marina and Ferens Art Gallery ( works include local artist David Hockney and Stanley Spencer ) , Hull Truck , New Theatre , K Com Stadium , Mainline Rail Station , Cross Channel Ferry Terminal are all within easy driving distance of less than 18 miles.

‘Madmen’ meets the Brontës in this stylish, lush vicarage by the sea

The only downside of our stay at the Old Vicarage — and it’s a big one — was having to tear ourselves away. The house is spacious, airy and elegant and is extremely comfy and warm. Every room is delightfully furnished and decorated with a pleasingly eclectic selection of furniture, objects and artwork from antique to Mid-Century and beyond — a delight to the eye and imagination. The kitchen is well equipped for cooking family meals in the welcoming high-ceilinged kitchen, and the house well-appointed all around.

David is an extremely responsive, generous host. He kindly was waiting upon our late arrival with a personal welcome. He supplied firewood, eggs, milk and bread and placed fresh flowers throughout the house. Our family deeply enjoyed walks on wide, empty beach and plunges in the sea —especially glorious at sunrise and sunset — and an excellent dip into Hull.

Thank you, David, for a beyond-five-stars experience. We dream of returning.

Character house near the sea

This is nice old house with lots of character. The central heating and log fires kept us comfortable during our winter weekend stay. Just a short walk to the beach where we found some fossils. The house grounds are big enough for ball games and the outside table tennis table is a bonus.

Beautiful house and garden in a great location just 2 minutes walk from the beach

We had a fantastic time as a family with 3 dogs over February half term. The house was more than big enough for us all and had everything you could need for a weeks stay. The huge garden was great for the dogs, as was the beach just a 2 minutes walk away. We had a lovely walk north up the beach to Hornsea (roughly 1 hours walk), and south exploring the clay cliffs erosion.

Would recommend staying and fully intend to return ourselves.
