Marine Terrace House Rental Photos and Description

House, 1 Bedroom, 1.5 Baths, (Sleeps 2)

A quaint, quintessentially California beach cottage, built by noted Cambria watercolor artist and printmaker, Jo Werts. Designed to take maximum advantage of light, it is replete with huge ocean view windows, and high, open-beam ceilings, giving it a light and airy feeling.

It is simply but comfortably furnished with a King Size bed. It is decorated with some of Ms. Werts' works, and a number of other original prints.

The house is located on a hill overlooking Cambria's Marine Terrace, and affords spectacular ocean views from nearly every room in the house. There is a deck off the master bedroom with beautiful, white-water ocean views, as well as a more private, protected deck and garden in the backyard area. A 2-3 minute walk to the ocean bluff hiking trails of the East-West Ranch Openspace, the Harvey St. Beach, Lampton State Park and Wedgewood Tidepools.

The perfect getaway

  • 5 of 5

I spent 5 nights here escaping the heat and stress of city living. I had an amazing time and love this special cottage. The kitchen is well stocked with dishes/cooking utensils/pots and pans. I cooked every night and had everything I needed - loved the outdoor grill. The living room is spacious and lovely spot to unwind after a long day of walking the trails and beach. There is a nice sized dining room table off the kitchen as well as another fold out table which I used to set up a small watercolor painting area under the large glass windows. The upstairs bedroom is like a studio apartment in itself with a couch area and amazing views and a deck. The upstairs bathroom is also nice sized. Overall the place has plenty of room for two people to spread out. The location can't be beat - empty lots on either side so you see deer frequently. It is a quick walk to the beach or Fiscalini Ranch with trials and amazing ocean views. The cottage was very clean and well kept - everything was in top working order. The floor to ceiling windows are amazing - each has a hardy blind for privacy and shade. Debbie, who manages the property, was very helpful and accommodating. I have stayed in several homes in Cambria but this will be my go to spot in the future. Highly recommend!

Perfect Vacation

  • 5 of 5

This was our first rental in Cambria. Our expectations included - a clean well appointed rental home, located in a quiet neighborhood, with walking trails nearby. The "Artist's Cottage" not only "met" our expectations - it exceeded them.

The house was located in a quiet neighborhood, which was frequented by does, fawns, and bucks. Walking trails were in close proximity to the house - the ocean was 4 blocks away and the Fiscalini Ranch Preserve was 8 blocks.

The house was clean, comfortable, tastefully decorated and had a "180-degree" of the ocean via the tall windows on the west side of the house.

The living room was located on the ground floor and it contained 2 comfortable couches, a gas stove, 2 rocking chairs, a flat screen TV/DVD and a half bath.

The kitchen and dining area - accessed by a 5-step staircase - were "open" to the living room. (I had "planned" on cooking all of our meals at the house but I was apprehensive as to whether the kitchen would contain everything I needed for "cooking from scratch".) I needn't have worried. The kitchen rivaled my kitchen at home - containing everything from "measuring spoons to service for 10".

The bedroom was located on the second floor, which was accessed via a spiral staircase. (A word of caution to persons over 6'2". Take care when "ascending" the spiral staircase - my husband struck his left shoulder on the wooden beams a few times. This is not a huge issue, but one worth mentioning.) The king sized bed was one of the most comfortable beds we had ever slept on. The bedroom was large and included a couch, dresser, large flat screen TV/DVD, desk and attached bathroom. The bathroom was clean, spacious and included plenty of fluffy towels, bar soap and liquid soap.

We highly recommend the "Artist's Cottage".

It was a pleasure to work with Debbie Berk. She booked our reservation and answered all our questions in a timely manner. Thank you Debbie.

Our Desert Escape, Cambria!

We loved Cambria and had the pleasure of staying here for two weeks! The cottage was very clean and comfortable, close to town and beaches, just a perfect location in every way! We hope to stay here again.

Winter Beach Retreat

  • 5 of 5

This was my second stay at the Artist's Cottage. I found it to be just as lovely in the colder months as it is during the summer. There had been quite a bit of rain before I arrived as well as a few rainy days during my stay but there were absolutely no issues with dampness, pooling or smell - as a previous reviewer stated. The cottage is kept very clean and well maintained. Debbie - who manages the property - is very responsive to any concerns. This is the perfect place to watch El Nino come and go. It has a great location, amazing light and everything you could want for the perfect escape.

A comfortable stay with a great view

  • 5 of 5

I stayed at the Artist's Cottage for 4 days while I was working on a job on the Central Coast. The cottage had everything I needed for a comfortable stay. The kitchen was well equipped and I loved grilling as the sun went down and enjoying the wonderful view out every window.

Before I left for the day, I enjoyed a great walk on the bluff nearby.

I have stayed in several of Debbie Berk's vacation rentals and they all have been top notch including the Artist's Cottage.

Musty Cottage

  • 1 of 5

Stayed 4 nights in 2015 November: 12 13 14 15

PROs: The cottage has good views of the Pacific especially from the upper story. We saw a family of 4 deer very close to the kitchen window one morning. Our car appreciated being in the garage. We appreciated the automatic garage door opener.

CONs: This artist’s cottage has a musty odor. We owned a second home in Cambria for about 10 years & we are familiar with some house problems in this area. We think this musty odor is an indication of “Dry Rot Fungus” or something similar. I’d have this house examined by a professional ASAP: the house should probably be tented.

There are many burned out light bulbs. For instance, the LR is dimly lit at night + there are 5 blue ceiling lights in the LR and only 1 blue light works! The DR is dimly lit at night, too, & is made even more dim with only 2 of the 3 blue lights working. In the bedroom the ceiling light has 5 lights and 1 is burned out. After a rain, the garage was slightly flooded with water that seemed to enter near the dryer vent.

Owner's Response: Dear Reviewer, Thank you for staying in our Artist Cottage. It is important to us that people have a great stay in Cambria whether for the first time or as a return visitor. It is also equally important to us that our guests have a great stay in our house. We are very pleased to have a wonderful manager available 24/7. She is very responsive to the needs of our guests. If a light bulb burns out a quick call on the house landline to the manager would solve that. Your difficulty in getting the blue lights in the living room on was the result of not turning both switches on - the one above the couch and the one on the wall. Our manager would have been happy to pass that information on the you if you had contacted her. Sounds like the dry rot in your former vacation home in Cambria was significant. That is too bad though we are not quite sure how that relates to your speculation about our house and your proposal we should use drastic measures. We are very hands on, have a small house and are diligent in checking the wood in our house frequently and in having very competent people do the same. Early detection lets us replace small pieces of wood if needed and prevent significant dry rot like you experienced. We are not having a dry rot infestation. We are sorry you perceived a musty odor. We had quite a few people in our home in the days immediately before your stay. Musty odors were not detected by them. Our records do not show any calls requesting assistance during your stay. We do show that you emailed our manager very shortly before your stay to say you might be unable to come and our manager diligently put your days back on the market but unfortunately was unable to find a new party to fill your days at such short notice. You subsequently came and stayed in the house during your scheduled stay. Dave and Eileen McKay Owners
