Perfect balance of town and country
This is a fully restored Victorian cottage in a conservation area in the street at the bottom of Shaftesbury's famous Gold Hill with a beautiful conservatory that overlooks an acre of garden yet is only ten minutes walk from the centre of town.
There is a spacious lounge, well equipped kitchen with dining table and a utility room off it with dishwasher, washing machine, freezer and tumble drier. There is a downstairs toilet. Upstairs the two bedrooms are large and both have lovely views. There is a bathroom with a bath and shower over it. There is a desk for a computer and full wi fi. In the garden there is a summer house with a beautiful vista, a trampoline, table tennis and badminton if requested. You can sit out on the patio if weather permits!
You can park in a large safe drive off road and adjoining the property ( a rare thing in Shaftesbury!)
As the tourist guides will tell you, there is plenty to explore in and around the town. Days out at the coast are possible as well as amazing cycling and walking possibilities. History is everywhere and we have all the relevant information to help you plan your visit before or during your stay! We look forward to welcoming you.

My husband and I live in the large Georgian house adjoining the cottage. We have recently renovated the cottage for guests
Why Hilary chose Shaftesbury
The garden is a special feature of the property. We have designed it so that there are different views down to the orchard and beyond. The view of Melbury Beacon is wonderful and you can actually walk from our back door to the top and to the little airfield at Compton Abbas. We enjoy sharing the location with guests

Lovely cottage with pretty garden
Wonderful spot and in a lovely town
Perfect place, charming host, ideal location
This cottage is excellently furnished, equipped and organized. The sun-room, shown as the cover picture, is a delightful spot to sit summer or winter and enjoy the heat of the sun, and the (electric) warmth and daylight during winter. The bedrooms are light, comfortable and one has a great map of the surrounding countryside so you decide on one of many destinations. Plenty of space with a full upstairs bath and a 1/2 bath on lower floor makes things very easy access. The sitting room with a gas fireplace is a cozy spot to watch TV, DVDs or just sit and read. Top-of-the-line induction stove, great oven and microwave make all cooking fun, and the washer dryer allows to clean up those messy dish towels after enthusiastic cooking. There is easy access safe parking on the driveway at the home
The garden is a great place to walk around and enjoy the many different flowers and admire a 250 year-old giant tulip tree. The outstanding views to the south east over the hills make for a very peaceful prospect.
Hilary has put together an amazing source book of information on the locale, history, geology, and everything archeological or culinary. Hilary represents charm personified and hospitality embodied. She is a fount of information and help if you need to know places to visit, where and how to get to the stores, where to eat or help with anything. She makes you feel so very welcome.
Shaftesbury may not have a massive cathedral or castle but it is perfect seized little town to walk around, enjoy the superb views and enjoy a small county town. Without such local prestige features it is a quieter town to visit and feel comfortable walking around.
Chantry Cottage is a perfect place to stay: and Hilary and John are the perfect hosts.
Delightful & well-presented cottage annexe
A very comfortable property with every facility. At the borders of the town, it makes it easy to explore both the town & the countryside.
Although our hosts were not on site during our stay, their attentive welcome made us feel "at home" as soon as we'd arrived !
So pleasant a stay we had, that we'd happily stay here again !!!!
A wonderful little haven!
The hosts, Hilary and John, are both very friendly and helpful and on hand should you need help with the property or advice regarding the surrounding area. The property is beautifully kept, inside and out, and has all the home comforts (and more) that you would wish for during a stay away from home. An absolute little peace haven, and ideal location to relax and enjoy. Our party of 4 thoroughly enjoyed the weekend and returned home very much refreshed and relaxed. Thank you for hosting us and sharing your wonderful cottage.
A really fabulous place to stay
We really enjoyed our stay here, as the cottage was so well-maintained and comfortable and Hilary was so friendly and helpful. We loved the little touches like the vases of flowers everywhere. We had breakfast every morning in the sunny conservatory, which was warm even in the middle of winter, and relaxed in the sitting room every evening. It was a lovely place to come back to. I recommend it very highly. The only shame was that we came in the winter so couldn't enyoy the wonderful garden.
Couldn't have been more pleased with the condition and location of this property. In wonderful place to explore the countryside, World Heritage sites, stately homes and castles.
Was more like one's own home than a self-catering cottage. The owner went above and beyond expectations in kitting out the cottage and providing the little amenities that made the cottage like home. Immaculately clean, well-furnished, and the internet-connected TV was a plus for not so good weather entertainment.
Description of back garden on website is understated. Wonderfully lush and perfect for relaxation.
Would highly recommend this property to anyone looking to stay in this area.
