House in Loddon, Nr. Norwich, South Norfolk, Norfolk, England - Fabulous Heated All Year Indoor Swimming Pool In Georgian Orangery In The Grounds For All Visitors

Described in the 17th century as a Handsome Gentleman's Manor House, the Manor House which currently is occupied by the owners has attached to the Country House three properties for self-catering holidays which can be let as a single let for 16 people or broken down to a let for 6 and 4 and 6 over the Coach House , the Clock house and the Attic Apartment. All visitors share with the owners the beautiful swimming pool and the 2 acres of gardens during their stay.The accommodation enjoys a village location in Loddon on the Norfolk Broads and is 11 miles from the Cathedral city of Norwich, "a Fine City" where various nightlife , shopping and theatre and restaurants thrived whilst it is also equidistant to the Lowestoft marina and sea' " the farthest eastern point of England", Southwold and the beach huts, Sandringham Palace , the smoke house in Walberswick and Orford and the theme parks and amusement parks in Great Yarmouth. Visitors can also explore the various sandy and award winning beaches in North Norfolk and South Norfolk as well as visiting the numerous antique and curios shops around the area. The Self catering accommodation consists of the Coach House, previously the Tack Room to the Manor House and which is currently modernised for visitors and the Clock House which was formerly the Hayloft and the Georgian Clock Tower to the manor House. This has been converted to an open plan living space with french door access to a patio garden and outdoor eating space and a view of the Poolhouse at the end of the grounds. The Main House was once the seat of Sir Thomas Bignold the founder of Norwich Union and currently known as AVIVA. It had over the years been restored and refurbished by the owners and have since 2004 been a self-catering establishment for visitors from all over the country. The Poolhouse was refurbished with the Victorian Georgian Windows of the old Norwich Railway Station and is a delightful place for relaxation all year round.

I am a Chartered Building Surveyor with an architectural emphasis and over the years have restored the Georgian Manor House to its present state. We have made many friends during this time and love sharing our beautiful house with the people from all over the country.

Why Esther Tan chose South Norfolk

The property is a landmark Georgian house with historical importance and architecturally sound and a fine example of 17th century elegance during its time.

The house was built in 1703 for a lawyer, Samuel Gilman and the imprint of his daughters' names, Sarah and Henrietta Gilmans are etched into the glass of the windows.

What makes this house unique

This is a substantial property with two outbuildings, the Coach House and Clock House adjacent to the Main House and although it is well placed for village amenities and easy access to Norwich and London , Suffolk and North Norfolk, it enjoys a tranquil and idyllic grounds to enjoy a family holiday or special occasion.It is in Loddon on the Norfolk Broads and visitors can hire a cruise along the Broads on a sunny day with a picnic. The Swimming Pool provide all particularly the children with heated swimming facilities everyday on your doorstep.

We found the accommodation very spacious and self contained particularly with our son suffering from MS, he was able to use the single storey part of the house. The property is full of character and at the same time great location for us to relax and do alot of walks and activities including some very good pubs in the village

Notes on accommodation: The elderly can be accommodated in the Coach House as this is single storey but use of mobile ramps is required in some parts of the property. Outside: Pool is 30 feet by 15 feet and is shared with the owners and other guests subject to allocation times. Shared gardens with owners. Own Patio and Barbecue and outdoor furniture. Utility Room: Ironing Board and iron and miscellaneous crockery, cutlery knives. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Bed Linen are included but not bath towels. Hand towels , tea towels and cleaning aids are provided as well as toilet paper. Other: Dining Room is in the ClockHouse open plan and leading into the al fresco dining space outside. This is a open plan dining/living space and the hub of social activity for guests.

Amazing New Year spent at Loddon House!

A group of 13 of us plus 1 dog spent New Years at Loddon House and had the best time! The accommodation is clean, tidy and full of character. We made full use of the swimming pool which is also very clean, warm and we all thoroughly enjoyed! On New Years Eve the owner kindly offered us a catered meal which we ordered before arrival and was cooked and delivered from the Wheatacre White Lion pub. We simply had to warm the food through in the oven which was very easy as the cooking facilities are excellent at the property. The food was beautiful and a really lovely addition to the weekend. Location is also perfect within minutes walk of a number of pubs and a supermarket. I really can't praise this place enough - would be perfect for any age, occasion and is very reasonably priced!

Disgustingly filthy place. Avoid.

Took 15 ladies here for a hen weekend. The place is disgusting. Years of grime and Dirt in every room. Owners couldn't care less about cleanliness despite reporting this to them. Hot tub doesn't work. If you like swimming with an ants nest then the pool is for you!

There's no cooking utensils, not enough crockery for the amount of people it sleeps and things like lights and pictures are hanging off the walls.

Avoid this place!!!!

Owner's Response: Completely malicious review after we wouldn't give them a free stay after they had left a filthy mess with rubbish from their hen party and massage party all over the house We cleaned the showers for them on request to their particular standards and nothing else was indicated to us throughout their stay while they basked in the sun and used the pool everyday and in the evening when they clearly should not be doing after7 pm The hot tub had not been offered nor ever was offered as a package for the let at all and they know that All the utensils and crockery and saucepans were more than enough to cater for at least twice the occupancy of 15 people as we duplicated all of those If they weren't so lazy as to check their drawers and the two kitchens thoroughly to make an effort to look for their needs they would have found them .Instead they stayed up all night late into the night troubling neighbours with their loud drunken behaviour otherwise they would have noticed the location of these items All very well to complain because they cannot get their way and you don't use people's property and facilities for the whole period and ask for their money back afterwards If it is that bad leave immediately but you had not bothered to complain to us apart from the showers you mentioned needs to be cleaned to your standards If they had not applied such pressure on the bed it wouldn't have broken the floorboard which had caused the bed to be lopsided as we discovered and they should know as the bed was ok on arrival and not when they left and similarly whatever did they do to the lights? I should be asking for compensation for the damage On departure they left 11 rubbish bins mixed with recycling matter and food waste which they cannot be bothered to separate Filthy and disgusting is what was left at our property

Great weekend in Loddon

Had a lovely weekend in the Coach House/Clock Tower and Attic Apartment. Great social kitchen/diner and living room. Great for large parties, there were 14 of us. Very quirky property with lots of rooms needs a little tlc in some areas but would definitely recommend and would definitely use again. The pool is an added bonus and had the weather been good we would have used the garden as well. Many thanks Ester, you were great!

Broads is on the doorstep literally. Nearest Beach is about 18 miles away.


Norwich Airport is about 40 minutes away or 19 miles away.

Nearest Train station to major cities e.g. London and Cambridge is 11 miles or 20 minutes by car. Good public transport to and from Norwich and surrounding towns.


Accessible to all Norfolk and Suffolk attractions as Loddon is on the border of Norfolk and Suffolk and ideally placed for all the tourist spots and beaches.

Further Details:

Loddon has 4 pubs of which one is a gastropub The Swan and the other is The White Horse. The Angel and the Kings head are drinking pubs. There is a supermarket here and village library and shops and bakeries. The surgery and dental facilities are excellent here in case of emergencies . We have Indian and Chinese takeaways as wells the renowned Fish and Chips just a few metres way from the gates of the property.
