The apartment, with both lake and mountain views, is situated on the second floor of a small, private, residential complex. Boasting a spacious balcony suitable for sunbathing, relaxing and outside dining, the apartment suits couples and families alike. Well equipped and close to all amenities, this apartment is ideal as a base for exploring Lake Como.
Allocated parking (1 space) on site, with additional free parking 100 metres away.
Domaso is a small, traditional fishing town on the northern shore of Lake Como.
Ideal as a romantic getaway location - stroll along the picturesque promenade and stop to admire the breathtaking lake views at one of the many bars.
Domaso, whilst offering every amenity necessary, is equally well situated as a base for wider exploration of all that the Lombardy region has to offer.
Fashion-capital of Europe, Milan, is just a 1.5 hour drive away. Whilst there, visit the ethereal cathedral and view Leonardo daVinci's painting 'The Last Supper'.
Take the ferry-boat down the lake to the world-famous town of Bellagio and dine in the dappled sun on a vine-covered terrace...you may even bump into George Clooney who lives nearby!
Visit the exquisite Villa Balbianello (filming location for 007 Casino Royal), Villa Carlotta or Villa Camilla and wander through their enchanting gardens.
In Menaggio, relax on the shores of the lake sampling delicious Italian gelato (ice-cream) in every flavour imaginable!
We are a retired couple living in the south-east of England. After holidaying in Italy, we fell in love with the Italian lifestyle and chose to make Domaso on the shores of Lake Como our second home.
When travelling by car to Italy we frequently extend our journey, stopping to visit towns in France or Germany - we can recommend many excellent hotels for an overnight stop. Other family members with young children frequently travel non-stop from the UK, through Europe, overnight.
David Hubble purchased this apartment in 2008
We love Domaso and the surrounding area for La Dolce Vita lifestyle it affords us. The numerous restaurants, cafes and pizzerias enable us to eat out at a reasonable price somewhere different every night of the week! Wandering along the lake shore, in the morning, stopping for cappuccino or in the afternoon enjoying a gelato are our favourite ways to relax.
Another huge advantage for us was proximity to the traditional Italian ski resort of Madesimo. Being a skiing family we enjoy taking advantage of the fact that Madesimo is thus far 'under the radar' of the big ski tour operators so it's only the Milanese we have to jostle with at the weekend at the lifts!
Being situated in an elevated position gives our apartment many advantages. Whilst we are within walking distance of all the amenities Domaso has to offer, the location is peaceful and undisturbed. The view from our balcony across the lake towards Colico and the mysterious and ever-changing Monte Legnone is one that we never tire of seeing!
A HUGE thank you once again to Pauline and David. We had an amazing time. The apartment was spotlessly clean (as always), warm and cosy. We never tire of the beautiful views across Lake Como. The skiing at Madesimo was as brilliant as ever. Plenty of fresh powder and NO LIFT QUEUES! Mostly, we had the slopes to ourselves - sheer bliss! We also enjoyed eating out in Domaso at Madonnina's, Il Timone, Arcobaleno and of course 'fish and rice' at La Contrada (my personal favourite). Once again, the Pizzocherie at La Richi could not be beaten. A great week - enjoyed greatly by us all. Hope to return next ski season.
We spent 9 days in this lovely apartment. The large balcony looks out over the lake to the mountains beyond and we spent many hours just relaxing and watching the changing weather over the summit. The apartment is very well maintained, the appliances very easy to use and the central location made it very easy to get about without the car.
Domaso is a lovely little town with everything that you will need. It is easy to walk to the centre from the apartment (10-15 mins) and the buses and ferries run regularly. The train to Milan goes from Colico on the other side of the lake, about a 20 minute drive.
We visited the beautiful villages around the lake on the ferries and especially enjoyed Como, Bellaggio and Varenna. The food was excellent in all the restaurants we visited.
We would thoroughly recommend this apartment to anyone but especially if you want a quiet and relaxing holiday away from it all. David made the whole process easy and stress-free and we would really like to go back in the future.
Lovely central location. Lovely apartment, very clean. David was very helpful before and during the trip.
We spent a wonderful relaxing week here in Spring with our two children age 8 & 12. The apartment is spotlessly clean inside and out and it is very comfortable. It would suit a family or couples/friends looking for a relaxing break with some days spent sightseeing, walking or enjoying water based activities. The owners were welcoming and helpful. The views of the surrounding mountains really are picture perfect both during the day and at night, it's just so peaceful! Catering facilities in the apartment are easy to operate and it is well equipped, we ate on the balcony most nights but Domaso also has great lake-side restaurants to suit all budgets. We all enjoyed our evening strolls to the lake for ice-creams (and drinks) there was a play park to try out on the way! The passenger boat service (which is easy to pick up from the main road in Domaso) is the ideal way to visit the lakeside towns, Bellagio is stunning and has to be seen from the lake! We hired bikes and rode along the lake path then up into the mountains. The location of this apartment is ideal and the drive from Bergamo airport was easy. We can't wait to go back!
Special interest holidays:
Water sports are very popular here. Domaso is renowned for its windsurfing and kite -surfing opportunities. All necessary equipment and tuition is available on the lake shore. Canoe hire is also available and is great fun individually, in pairs or with groups of friends or family. Private motor boat hire is available at many locations locally, including Domaso.
Walking and hiking are popular pastimes here, providing opportunities for amazing views across the lake and the chance to discover hidden hillside villages. Challenge yourself to summit the peak of Monte Legnone directly across the lake from the apartment.
Domaso is served by both airports in Milan: Bergamo (1 hr 20 mins) & Malpensa (1 hr 40 mins). For low-cost flights, Ryan Air fly from all major UK cities (4 flights daily from Stansted) to Bergamo. For flights to Malpensa, easyJet are usually cheapest. Car hire is available at both airports and is easily booked online in advance. By rail from Milan, arrival is at Colico requiring a short journey by bus or ferry to Domaso. Travelling by road, through Europe is also most enjoyable and hassle-free.
The apartment is situated a short 10 minute walk uphill from the town centre of Domaso. To the south, explore the idyllic Italian towns of Menaggio (20 minutes) and Como (1h). To the north, travel to Livigno, the spa town of Bormio or into Switzerland, to St Moritz, which is beautiful in both summer and winter. Take the Navagatizone (ferry boat) across the lake to the world-famous town of Bellagio.
All within easy walking distance, Domaso boasts a number of excellent restaurants, tavernas and pizzerias in which to dine. From traditional Italian cuisine, local specialities (try Pesce Persico) to modern dishes - there's something for everyone. Italy is the easiest place in the world to eat out!
Domaso has three small supermarkets within walking distance selling everything you may need. For a wider variety visit the Centro Commerciale Iperal Fuentes at the top of the lake (10 minutes by car).
There are two banks in Domaso, both with ATM machines.
For medical needs, there is a doctor's surgery and pharmacy in Domaso. The nearest hospital with an A&E department is situated in the neighbouring town of Gravedona (5 minutes by car).
Nearby villages all hold their own markets on differing days throughout the week - details available from the Tourist Information Office in the town.
Various festivals and celebrations are held in Domaso all year round - there are plenty of opportunities to celebrate with the locals!
Unsurprisingly, the Italians love their wine and as a testament to this there are many vineyards and cantinas close by where locally produced wines can be sampled and bought.
