About Rachael Petherick

My husbands family have farmed at Aldercombe for over 100 years. Richard is a fourth generation dairy farmer. We milk pedigree holstein cows and sell our milk to Dairy Crest who make Cathedral City Cheese. Visitors to our farm often find a guided tour very interesting, and enjoy seeing the calves and cows up close.

Our young family enjoy the space at Aldercombe, giving them a chance to have their own ponies, who live at the farm.

Rachael Petherick purchased this barn in 1949

Why Rachael Petherick chose Kilkhampton

We as a family love this area. The farm is down a long lane and secluded. That said, the village is only a mile and a half away, and has a varied amount of independently owned shops and eateries.

What makes this barn unique

Step outside the back door of Aldercombe Barn and walking, running or exercising the dog couldn't be easier. Footpaths take you to either the village, or across rugged farmland paths to the Tamar Lakes, taking in wonderful rural scenery. Located near to the seaside town of Bude, there are plenty of beautiful beaches, clifftop walks and fine eating places.

Guestbook comments from the manager

Very comfortable. A very happy family week. Thank you. A great welcome, all very much appreciated.

Wonderful family week in Kilkhampton at Aldercombe Barn

  • 5 of 5

We had a fabulous week here, a family get together - 7 adults, 2 children and 2 dogs!

The barn was very clean, comfortable, cozy and warm (we stayed in February). It was a beautiful place, well equipped with everything we needed. Lots of space, comfortable beds and a stunning bathroom.

The barn has a lovely enclosed garden, with swings for the children and is secure for the dogs - we would have liked to have sat out and made more of it but unfortunately the weather wasn't on our side.

Rachael the owner was really friendly and very accommodating, she even left us a home-baked cake which was there when we arrived and went down well with a cup of tea - thanks Rachael!

The barn (farm) was easy to find, local amenities close by and easy access to lots of beautiful places to visit along the Cornish coastline.

I would definitely recommend this property as a place to stay. I couldn't fault it and will hopefully be going back to visit again.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your kind words. We are really glad you had a lovely time, despite the appalling weather! We look forward to seeing you all, and the gorgeous dog, again. Kind regards Rachael

We have stayed in a lot of holiday rental homes and this was one of the best. A gorgeous barn in a lovely location. The property was really clean and well equipped with all you would need. It was also very child safe so extra relaxing for parents. Super town and beaches nearby. Fab.
