About the property

Barn in Windermere, Lake District, Cumbria, England - Peaceful Location, 10 Minute Drive to Bowness/Windermere and within easy reach of pubs/restaurants

Outrun Nook Barn is a little bit special, tucked away down a meandering country lane with views of the fells, the setting is picturesque and peaceful, but despite its rural location the barn is only a 10 minute drive to Bowness/Windermere with many fabulous pubs and restaurants in the local vicinity. The barn really is a home away from home. The large living area has a very cosy feel and the open plan living makes it a relaxed and easy place to spend time with family and friends. There's plenty of room to catch up, watch TV, have a glass of wine or a cup of tea and stretch out after a long days walking.Originally a Westmoreland bank barn, the conversion makes the most of the high vaulted ceilings and original beams. The open plan living space is set out over two levels with a beautiful oak gallery framing the large open plan living area. Choose one of the large comfy sofas and relax in front of the wood burning stove or unwind on the patio overlooking the fells (blankets are provided as the temperature cools). Whatever your preference Outrun Nook allows you to escape and forget the outside world. But if you're tucked up in the warm as the sun goes down, you have Sky, Sky Sports and Sky Box Sets to entertain you. The kitchen is situated on the gallery level and is very much at the heart of things with a birds eye view of the lounge below and the dedicated reading area and desk opposite. It's been handmade specifically for the barn to ensure everything is to hand and of the highest quality. The traditional layout of the barn also provides some added privacy and some quiet space with a bedroom and bathroom on each floor. On the ground floor there's also a separate snug with a window seat overlooking the lane and fields, a sofa and TV. The gravelled garden is accessed through tall french doors with table and chairs on the patio so you can enjoy the views. You may be lucky and see the resident barn owl hunting over the field at dusk or just look up and be amazed by the stars as they shine in the absence of street lighting. For outdoor activities the barn is situated on the Dalesway trail and offers some excellent walking and cycling right from the doorstep plus Windermere golf club is just one mile down the road. THE BARN IS AVAILABLE FOR SHORT BREAKS PLEASE CONTACT THE OWNER FOR RATES AS THESE DO VARY.

About Lee Powell

Having holidayed in the Lakes for many years we made the decision to move to Windermere last year. After 24 years living in London we’ve returned home, to the North West to enjoy the walks, the food, the people and yes the weather too! The first time we saw Outrun Nook, tucked away and nestled amongst the fields, it had us hooked. And it hasn't disappointed, the views are beautiful, the walking is great and when there's a good pub at the end of it they're even better! The dogs now think we're just living in one big field and are bounding with joy. Yet despite the lovely feeling of remoteness here I know Bowness is just at the bottom of the road for when we fancy a latte or a good meal out. Living here we really are lucky enough to have the best of both worlds. This year we’ll be exploring the area and getting to grips with the country life but we already feel right at home.

Fantastic place to stay in the Lakes

  • 5 of 5

We loved everything about the barn. It has been furnished and decorated so well with lovely homely touches. We felt at home immediately. The location was fantastic being so close to Windamere but in a very rural attractive location with some lovely walks from the cottage. We will return.

Exceptionally beautiful Barn and location, truly idyllic

  • 5 of 5

Thoroughly enjoyed another wonderful holiday, our 6th year returning to this truly tranquil and idyllic location. The barn is as gorgeous as ever, so thoughtfully presented, everything we needed from a holiday, and more (so lovely to see the Barn owl too). There's plenty of walks in the local surroundings, the Dales Way runs close by, and Windermere is just a short drive. It really is the loveliest place I've ever stayed, and I'm already looking forward to our next stay in this lovely little corner of heaven.

A great place !

  • 5 of 5

We booked on the strength of the trip advisor reviews and the dog friendliness of the accommodation. We were not disappointed. The barn had everything that you could need in a great location. It was our first time away with our dog and we felt most welcomed and looked after with her. That was a great relief as we didn’t want to feel stressed on our first holiday away with her. The pubs in the area are fantastic and we did a great walk from a dog walking book as well as short walks in the area. The barn was lovely to come back to and great for when we did want to make our own food. We chilled very happily there. The owners were very helpful, answering numerous queries from me and popped round straight away when we needed more kindling. 10 our 10 in every area. Highly recommend.

( we took our 10 year old and a 14 year old too and they loved their rooms)

Beautiful! Fantastic attention to detail!

  • 5 of 5

It's taken me a while to write this but I wanted to say what a fantastic Christmas stay we had! The barn is absolutely beautiful and every little detail has been thought of! On the day we were due to leave we woke up to thick snow, although this had the potential to be a stressful situation with having a one year old, we were looked after by Lee and her husband very well and when we could finally get out the following day they even assisted us to safely get the cars out! We hope to return in the future and would highly recommend booking this lovely retreat!

Cosy, well maintained property in peaceful location!

  • 5 of 5

The property is the perfect balance of spacious and cosy. The wood burning stove was a very welcome feature and was put to good use every evening - it was easy to light using the logs and kindling provided. The property location is very peaceful with great views over the fields and hills. We walked into Bowness-on-Windermere via the nearby Dales Way footpath which took approximately 60 mins. The drive into Windermere took 10 or so minutes.

The welcome guide provided by the owners had some very useful information about both the property and local area. It’s definitely worth reading through this upon arrival as it answered most of the questions we had.

In conclusion, the property allowed us to have a very relaxing few days exploring the Lakes. We would definitely stay here again!
