Lovely, lemon-coloured modern detached house, stylishly decorated and furnished. Drive for three cars and charming front & back gardens. The property has the advantage of windows on all sides, enjoying uplifting light all day.
The designer house is much admired for its contemporary décor, relaxed feel and superb location. Situated in a quiet cul-de-sac dominated by trees and birdsong, it is, nevertheless, only a few minutes walk to: the train station; the harbour with its eateries including Rick Stein's restaurant & chippy; handy tescos; pretty yachts; the town centre with its attractive shops, art galleries, cafés, bars, restaurants and piers.
The lawned front garden boasts mature barked borders planted with a diverse selection of well known and tropical specimens, including a rare red yucca. Near the front door, a table and two chairs provide a pleasant spot for a morning coffee. The garden to the rear is similarly lawned with mature borders which include black bamboo. The lawn leads from a large patio directly behind the house, accessible via the back door. New extensive rattan furniture adorns the back patio with its luxury padded sofas, chaise end, and glass-topped coffee table - a perfect sun trap in which to lounge with a good book and some sun tan lotion or socialise with friends, snacks and a gin and tonic. At the back of the lawn is a sturdy table and two chairs to enjoy a cup of tea in the afternoon, out of the sun and sheltered by the back wall with its luscious camellia and bay tree. A new bench with table is ideally placed to the side of the garden against the garage wall, to catch the last rays of the evening. Please do make full use of the pretty well-stocked herb garden easily reached just beyond the kitchen door.
Leading from the newly decorated hallway are the front room with new leather furniture, funky comfy bright armchair, 42" HD Sky TV plus Netflix and Sonos sound system, the dining room with sofabed at the back of the house and the new white and chrome kitchen. Upstairs a central landing leads to a WC, one king sized bedroom with plentiful fitted storage and TV, one bedroom with double bed and a desk with Mac screen for attaching personal devices, and a third bedroom with triple bunk (double bed with single bunk bed above) and new white wardrobe/chest of drawers, and a bathroom.
Number four of six children, I was born in Newcastle-upon-Tyne to a musical/teaching family, moving 'south' to study French and Drama at Manchester University. After living there for eight years, I spent two years in the US, pursuing a career in acting. I ended up in London, where I lived for thirteen years.
Though my professional background is mainly in French and teaching pupils with hearing impairment, I have been involved in acting and music all my life. I made the move into the writing world about ten years ago; having started with plays, I'm now an author of Young Adult/crossover novels. You're welcome to sample my writing which you'll find in the house...!
My husband works in telecommunications and is something of an inventor/entrepreneur.
We have two grown up daughters.
Julia Johnston purchased this house in 2007
Working increasingly from home, my husband and I took the bold move of setting up home in the beautiful town of Falmouth, out of the swing of the sea (in one way anyway!).
I regularly visited my best friend over many years and my love for the seductive, friendly town grew stronger as time passed. Having only experienced city life, I was a tad apprehensive about moving to a small town, but it has been the best thing I've ever done! It truly feels like being on holiday all year round and is a flourishing, vibrant, peace-loving place.
The mix of people is surprisingly diverse: creative types (anything goes here especially dress-wise!), academics, highly skilled labourers/farmers, members of the yachting fraternity, students, those with a zest for life (like us!), the list goes on...
The house is in a much desired peaceful street, being very close to town yet in a secluded area, a tree-lined walk way running through centre of the cul-de-sac. Its position means the house looks onto trees instead of houses, a rare feature of falmouth dwellings, where space is at a premium. A driveway for three cars is an extraordinary perk, too, in a town where free parking is scarce.
It is the first place I've ever lived where you absolutely do not need a car; everything you could need or desire is so close by. From the property, you can easily walk to: town, art galleries, harbour, Events Square, train station, beach, docks. A Tesco Extra, a cinema, a theatre and a gym are also minutes away.
Colourful joyous festivals are never far off, regularly punctuating the calendar as they do.
"Thank you so very much for letting us stay at your beautiful abode!" Mark Cocksedge, London
"What an amazing place your house is in and what an amazing house. We were worried that we would not manage without a car, but all the walking distances you explained were spot on. One day we went to the maritime museum, then continued to town where we had lunch at a restaurant looking over pretty boats in the harbour. After spending too much money in the gorgeous shops, we changed at the house for the beach and walked round the headland past the castle to Gilly beach then we spent a delightful time swimming and ice cream. We went back to the house to change again and we loved the Gilly restaurant so much we went back for dinner and sat in the sun at the side till 9 o'clock at night! It's hard to believe all that entertainment is minutes walk away and all that was in one day!" L and T Johnston, Newcastle-upon-Tyne
"I loved your house. Being able to escape and have quiet time with a good book and a gin and tonic so close to town was a miracle and something for which I am extremely grateful." Enid Richemont, London
We had a really nice family break here in May/June 2016. Very nice house in a fantastic location across from Falmouth Town station. Sonos system was great. Town centre and Gyllingvase beach are both easily walkable. Falmouth is a wonderful place to visit and this was a great base. Our son Charlie certainly liked it!
We enjoyed our week in Julia's house in Falmouth. All the good restaurants and pubs are within walking distance. The house is well equipped, in particular the kitchen. The rent is easily affordable.
The house is in a great location for both the town centre, harbour and the beach. Julia was very easy to deal with and the welcome pack she provided was very informative. Whilst in Fslmouth we managed to visit the Eden Project, Port Isaac and Lands End if you are prepared for the drive it is worth it. We also went fishing locally and caught some mackerel and cod which my 18 year old son cooked beautifully for us that evening. We also went to the local cinema which was a very enjoyable experience if you are in one of the upstairs screen - very wide comfortable leather seats with a small table to accommodate your food/drinks which you can order from the bar and have brought right to your seat!
Overall a lovely holiday.
Most comfortable holiday beds we have ever slept in! The drive was a bit narrow for a large car.
A beautiful house on a quiet leafy avenue that is less than ten minutes walk from the beach and the harbour. The house is clean and the gardens well maintained, with seating and tables in the front and back garden. Perfect for following the sun!
Everything in the house is top quality and the rooms are beautifully decorated. Everything that we needed was there; from the well equipped kitchen to the Sonos sound system!
The communication with the owner was excellent and the house was easy to book. I enquired about local surf schools and Julia responded with helpful suggestions.
We fell in love with Falmouth during a mid December break, and we knew that we would want to come back in the summer. Our childen loved the beach and looking at the boats. There was a great choice of pubs, restaurants and interesting shops near by. Fish and chips from Harbour Lights was perfection, especially as you can eat it whilst enjoying a pint in the pub on the harbour!
We all loved our week away and wished that we had booked for longer. We will be back next year!
Really homely, well equipped and a real home from home. Located in a quiet pretty road and perfectly located just a short walk from the shops restaurants and harbour. With off road parking!!. Wish we could have stayed longer.
Position of house is absolutely ideal: 7 mins walk to the beautiful award-winning Gyllyngvase beach (known as Gylly beach) with views to Pendennis Castle, a great café/restaurant serving excellent food and access to a coastal path; you can follow this on foot, for 12 minutes from Gylly beach round to the right, taking you to Swan Pool beach with its outdoor café. In the other direction is Castle beach, also served by a café. Gylly and Swan Pool provide canoes and surf boards + lessons.
Since the house is ideally situated near town, station and beach, a car is not necessary.

Newquay airport is 50 minutes drive away.
Town is only 5 mins walk.
Train Station 2 mins walk.
3 mins walk to harbour/Events Sq w National Maritime Museum.
