Ample on-street parking is available. Located in the quaint Cartmel village it is ideally situated for easy access to Cartmel Racecourse, Cartmel Medieval Priory, L'Enclume Michelin Star Restaurant and the beautiful Cartmel Valley walks. Only 10 minutes drive to the foot of Lake Windermere and Newby Bridge the gateway to the mountains and lakes.

Nice little cottage with good and bad bits

I stayed here with my husband for just short of a week in August. The cottage is really cute and bijoux there are some nice touches like the modern very well equipped kitchen. I always feel bad about winging about peoples things but as I was asked to review I will.

The mattress is very uncomfortable...I overcame this by sleeping on a sleeping bag we had brought (the sheets, quilt etc are lovely though).

Too many remote controls! How would a technophobe cope with bewildering systems? To watch a DVD you need to change the input mode on TV and so on and this was not written down.

The light for the kitchen in under the right hand cupboard in the kitchen...I could not find this so emailed the owner. What follows is my biggest bug bear, She emailed me back saying she would come at 9.30 am the next morning. I woke up at 9.15 am and saw the reply. I was furious that she didn't ask me when was convenient to come or even if I wanted her to!

The view from the back window is the beer garden of the pub next door, and a bunch of junk belonging to the pub next door I assume, I have pic's.

There is a local shop just round the corner opposite the cottage which has a lot of traffic coming and going and indeed a busy road, if you leave the bedroom window open you don't sleep due to noise if you close it you don't sleep as it's too hot (I imagine in the cold weather it's welcome though). I have taken a video of this which I intended to use on Trip Advisor.

The locality is very nice, the dog walk through the racecourse is fab.

Cartmel is an upmarket village with lots going on even though it's small.

Owner's Response: Sorry to hear that you had some issues with your stay at Causeway Cottage. A new mattress has been provided since this comment was posted. The guest information will be amended to help future guests locate the light switch for the kitchen spotlights, and instructions for using the remote controls will be provided. The village shop is open to 8pm in the summer and 7.30 in winter so disturbance is not usually an issue due to early closing. The mattress has not been commented on before - so I plan to sleep on it to get an idea of why you found it uncomfortable. The pub behind the cottage were asked to remove the stuff they had piled up which was visible from the rear dining window (as discussed with your husband when i called in) and this has now been removed. The situation of the cottage is shown on our website and it is clear that the cottage is situated on a street in the village with a pub next door - we do not state that the cottage is in a tranquil quiet location - we do try to ensure that guests are not mislead or disappointed when they visit. I called in to respond to your request for help in locating the kitchen light switch and whilst there I showed how to switch from TV to DVD as requested. Had you phoned me to ask me not to call in that would perhaps have saved my visit causing you irritation - I am sorry you found it inconvenient and hope it didn't spoil your holiday.

Situated in the beautiful medieval village of Cartmel famous for its Priory, L'Enclume Michelin star rated restaurant and of course Cartmel Races. The village has 4 excellent pubs all serving delicous food and most welcoming children and dogs. Famous for Sticky Toffee Pudding, Cartmel has some lovely specialist food and gift shops and cafes and is a treat to visit.

A deposit of £100 will be requested with final payment due 6 weeks before arrival.

Changeover Day:
Bookings are accepted from 3.30pm Friday to 10am Friday for 7 night starys
or Friday to Monday for weekend stays
and Monday to Friday for mid-week stays
During quiet times of year our changeover days can be flexible
We accept a minimum of 3 night stay

Notes on prices:
A 'full week' runs from Friday 4 p.m. to Friday 10 a.m.. Short breaks can run either from Friday 4 p.m. to Monday or Tuesday 10 a.m. or from Monday or Tuesday 4 p.m. to Friday 10 a.m. - minimum stay period is 3 nights. A stay of 3 nights costs 75% of the weekly rate; 4 day stays cost 80% of the weekly price. Well behaved dogs are welcome, at a charge of £25 each stay. Errors and omissions excepted

Notes on accommodation: The cottage is refurbished to a high specification and has ample on-street parking. The cottage has unlimited Wifi, gas central heating, underfloor heating on the ground floor and gas hot water system. Outside: There is no outside seating area at the cottage. It is located next to the Pig & Whistle pub which has a large garden and is adjacent to cartmel green with easy access to open spaces. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Towels and Linen are included. Bedding is not supplied for the sofa bed in the living room. Other: The cottage has underfloor heating in all downstairs areas plus radiator gas central heating, gas coal effect stove and gas hot water system.
