About Alison Acland

Hi, I'm Ally Acland,

I live at October House with my husband, Richard, and (sometimes) our three children - Lottie, Tom and Milly - who are in their early 20s and setting off in life.

I am a magazine editor working part time from home and my other occupations are making sure our guests have the best time possible, gardening (my passion), my animals and sailing with Richard (his passion!).

I have a horse, Silver, whom you will meet in the paddock. Our two dogs, Golly (a miniature poodle) and Coco (a black labrador) will guarantee an enthusiastic welcome. You probably won't see our two black cats as they are quite shy but they are my live teddybears. Finally my 20 pure-bred chickens are another pride and joy and keep us supplied with lovely free-range eggs.

Richard is a very keen sailor and we sail togeth

Alison Acland purchased this cabin in 2007

Why Alison Acland chose St Ives & East Dorset

We bought October House as our family home and with it came quite a few out buildings.

The holiday cabin was originally our own guest suite. I then ran it as a B&B for 3 years very successfully and realised what a great area we live in for holiday makers. Its lovely tranquil rural setting close to the New Forest and many interesting attractions and the coast is ideal for a family holiday. So now I have doubled it in size and put in a kitchen and another en-suite bedroom to make a great holiday accommodation.

We created the large dog-proof garden because we know how people like to bring their dogs. Being part of our larger garden means guests can enjoy that too and all our animals.

We love the area and enjoy seeing our guests appreciate it too.

What makes this cabin unique

This great spot has everything for a great family (or romantic) holiday - space, rural tranquillity, lovely garden and trees, great pubs and local walks - all within an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty

We are within an hour from the coast with fantastic beaches, cliffs and walks.

We are just 15 minutes from the New Forest - 100s of square miles of open country and forest for all to enjoy.

Historic Salisbury and Stonehenge are a short drive and there are many many historic houses, National Trust properties and children's attractions within an hour.

And did I mention the animals? I think I have!

Wondeful hideaway

  • 5 of 5

The cabin way exceeded any expectations we had! We arrived in the dark but the inside lights were on and the rooms were all lovely and warm, there was even a welcome package of milk, bread, butter and eggs (from their own hens) with fruit in the bowl! Ally couldn't have been more welcoming or helpful! The cabin was fully equipped with a washer/dryer, a microwave, a dishwasher and every utensil that we could wish for. There were even spare dog towels on the hot water cylinder. We were down from Scotland visiting friends and family and the cottage was central for Dorset, Hampshire and Wiltshire. Thank you, Ally, for a wonderful visit!

Relaxing getaway

  • 5 of 5

We spent just 2 nights in the cabin at October House and it was exactly the relaxed and peaceful break we needed. Alison was warm and welcoming and the basics left for us such as milk, bread and butter were lovely. Would definitely recommend as a peaceful getaway.

Our own New Forest

  • 5 of 5

What a wonderful time we had. My two children aged 7 and 9 loved the fact they could walk 1 minute to see Blue and Nick Nack (horses) and the chickens. Something they've never done is collect the eggs and eat them! Thats what i call organic! I would highly recommend staying here. Thanks again Alison.

Very modern yet quaint at the same time.

I can totally recommend October House's 'Cabin' if you're planning a peaceful break with the New Forest just a few minutes drive away.

The property was ample space for myself, fiancé and our dog and was immaculate with all the facilities you need.

Alison is an absolutely lovely lady who is very helpful and not only made us feel at home but our dog Teddy too.

On our arrival we found we had been left bread, milk, butter and fresh eggs from their chickens, not only very thoughtful but a lovely touch. We also had a lovely welcome from Golly the dog.

We visited a local pub a few times which was a short walk from the property, the staff were very welcoming and the food was lovely, once again very dog friendly.

We will definitely be booking a week's stay for the summer.
