A newly converted holiday cabin in a peaceful rural setting with it's own private, dog-proof garden. No traffic, no street lights, plenty of space and lovely wooded walks in all directions.

Perfect for families and romantic couples seeking a rural idyll to get away from it all.

The large, private west-facing garden is a sun trap and perfect for barbecuing as the sun goes down.

Inside, the brand new kitchen has all the conveniences including a washer/dryer, dishwasher, ceramic hob, fan oven, microwave etc. The lounge features a 32" TV/DVD player with Free-view, an electric 'wood-burning' stove for chilly evenings and two comfy sofas.

The sunny master bedroom has a comfortable king-sized bed, down pillows and en-suite toilet. The smaller bedroom has bunk beds for the kids. There is a second toilet and shower room with a power shower. Nice extras include guest dressing gowns, hair dryer, ironing board (and iron!), books and a baby bath. All linen and towels are provided and the fridge and cupboards will be stocked with first-day essentials to greet you on arrival.

Damerham is a lovely tranquil village with a superb local pub a pleasant 15 minute walk away. Set in the rural idyll of the Cranborne Chase Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, we are perfectly located for enjoying the New Forest, South Coast, The Cranborne Chase, Salisbury and Stone Henge.

Pets and children warmly welcome and will be safe in a large enclosed private sunny garden complete with outdoor furniture and barbecue in the summer. Horses, ponies, chickens, dogs and cats live on our 3-acre plot. You can stroke, cuddle, or simply watch and enjoy them (and collect the eggs in the morning if you are up early enough!).

Changeovers are from Friday to Friday - full week bookings only in the summer and short breaks/long weekends in the winter.

We are happy to receive and unpack on-line grocery deliveries booked after 11am on changeover days.

About Alison Acland

Hi, I'm Ally Acland,

I live at October House with my husband, Richard, and (sometimes) our three children - Lottie, Tom and Milly - who are in their early 20s and setting off in life.

I am a magazine editor working part time from home and my other occupations are making sure our guests have the best time possible, gardening (my passion), my animals and sailing with Richard (his passion!).

I have a horse, Silver, whom you will meet in the paddock. Our two dogs, Golly (a miniature poodle) and Coco (a black labrador) will guarantee an enthusiastic welcome. You probably won't see our two black cats as they are quite shy but they are my live teddybears. Finally my 20 pure-bred chickens are another pride and joy and keep us supplied with lovely free-range eggs.

Why Alison Acland chose St Ives & East Dorset

We bought October House as our family home and with it came quite a few out buildings.

The holiday cabin was originally our own guest suite. I then ran it as a B&B for 3 years very successfully and realised what a great area we live in for holiday makers. Its lovely tranquil rural setting close to the New Forest and many interesting attractions and the coast is ideal for a family holiday. So now I have doubled it in size and put in a kitchen and another en-suite bedroom to make a great holiday accommodation.

We created the large dog-proof garden because we know how people like to bring their dogs. Being part of our larger garden means guests can enjoy that too and all our animals.

We love the area and enjoy seeing our guests appreciate it too.

What makes this cabin unique

This great spot has everything for a great family (or romantic) holiday - space, rural tranquillity, lovely garden and trees, great pubs and local walks - all within an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty

We are within an hour from the coast with fantastic beaches, cliffs and walks.

We are just 15 minutes from the New Forest - 100s of square miles of open country and forest for all to enjoy.

Historic Salisbury and Stonehenge are a short drive and there are many many historic houses, National Trust properties and children's attractions within an hour.

And did I mention the animals? I think I have!

Perfect getaway

Very practical, comfortable and well equipped accommodation. Beautiful location and very friendly and helpful owners. In easy reach of the New Forrest, south coast and Salisbury with its beautiful cathedral- and the dog was welcome everywhere (except inside the cathedral!). We would love to return.

Excellent cabin.

This was a fabulous place to stay. Owners were welcoming and starter bits were great especially when arriving late. The cabin is extremely well equipped and very homely. We have two giant breed dogs and as a family as well, finding suitable accommodation is difficult. I can't recommend this cabin enough we shall certainly be returning.

Cosy cabin in secluded location

This was our second visit and did not disappoint. The cabin is well appointed and cosy with a good open plan communal area and a lovely little garden. We stayed with our dog and enjoyed several walks in the lovely surrounding countryside. Alison is very helpful and friendly, the cottage is lovely, the area is beautiful, what more can I say...,visit it!!

Cosy retreat in lovely area

This was our second holiday in the cabin and it did not disappoint. Beautifully appointed and cosy, good open plan communal area. Alison is very friendly and helpful. Countryside is lovely. What more can I should visit!!

Spring walking break

We had a perfect long-weekend dog-walking break at the October House cottage. It's always lovely when something is even better than the description and that's what we found. The cottage is finished to an extremely high standard. We were warmly welcomed with offers of advice if we needed but also a very helpful handbook which we used to good effect. There were also some lovely touches such as flowers and the freshly laid eggs from the resident hens. The enclosed, dog-safe garden was a real winner for us. I would warmly recommend a stay here and I'm quite hard to please!

Quick last minute booking at October House Holiday Cabin.

Two night stay Friday and Saturday mid-December. Enclosed garden of which our dog enjoyed.

As for October House Holiday Cabin, lovey, a home from home – cosy, warm and great fro a short get-a-way.

There are some stunning beaches within an hours drive:

Studland Bay is a lovely sandy beach owned by the National Trust. You travel on a chain ferry to reach it!

Exclusive Sandbanks in Poole is a 45 minute drive. This is lovely and sandy with a more urban feel and beach cafes alongside the most expensive real estate in Europe.

Dorset's 'Jurassic Coast' has beaches and superb walks as well as dinosaur fossils to be found


We are in the middle of the countryside so it it essential you have a car to get around.

We are 1 hour 20 minutes from Heathrow, about 2 hours from Gatwick. Southampton and Bournemouth airports are both within half an hour.

It takes about 2.5 hours to reach the Channel Tunnel and our nearest ferry port is Portsmouth which is an hour away.

Salisbury is our nearest train station about 25 minutes drive away and it takes you straight to the centre of London in one hour 20 minutes.

Stonehenge - 22 miles, 43 minute drive

Fordingbridge (local town) 7 minutes drive

Ringwood - 10 miles, 20 minutes drive

New Forest (large area) nearest car park 15 minutes drive

London takes about 1.75 hours to drive or you can go by train.

Damerham is a small, quiet, rural village with a superb pub a pleasant 15 minute walk away.

Fordingbridge is our nearest town just 7 minutes drive away. It has butchers, pharmacies, banks, supermarkets and other local shops you might need.

Salisbury is our nearest city with good clothes shops, a market on Tuesdays and, of course its stunning cathedral.

There are walks everywhere. The New Forest is a wild, open space famous for its ponies. You can walk, ride bikes (plenty to hire), ride horses. play golf and enjoy the great outdoors.

There are many lovely National Trust properties under 45 minutes drive and lots of children's attractions - Paulton Park, Adventure Wonderland, Farmer Palmers, Go Ape, Model Towns, Adventure Wonderland.....

Notes on accommodation: This is a non-smoking accommodation. Outside: We love children and pets! There is a large, private, dog/child-proof garden exclusively for your use but you are also welcome to enjoy and our larger grounds as well as our two dogs, cats, Silver the horse (not for riding!!), some 20 chickens (collect the eggs if you get up early enough!) and soon, maybe, some pygmy goats. The garden traps the evening sun and you can sit and enjoy it on the garden chairs and table while tending the barbecue (charcoal and tongs provided). The are beautiful wooded walks in all directions straight from the front door and a superb dog-friendly pub in the village a pleasant 15 minute walk away. They do excellent food. Utility Room: Vacuum cleaner, washing machine, ironing board and iron. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: All towels and linen are provided. These will be cleaned/changed weekly if you stay longer than a week. Guest dressing-gowns are provided for adults The holiday cottage will be cleaned weekly. Old towels can be provided on request for your dog. Other: The sitting room opens onto a large, sunny garden that traps the evening sun. Outdoor tables and chairs and barbecue (briquettes supplied) are perfectly located to enjoy the evening sun overlooking the large dog-proof garden.
