Ivy is a studio apartment, economically priced (48, 51 and 54 Eu per night). Available for single nights except in July/August when you must book two nights. It has a small dining area but no living area, as such, though it leads out onto its own garden which guests use for relaxing and dining. There is a shower room and fully equipped galley kitchen. Perfect and well priced accommodation for ramblers, backpackers, cyclists and people who just want a few overnight stays whilst en route. Also very suitable for romantic weekends "en couple" away from it all ! Speak to host if you would like to have a table d'hote lunch or dinner one day. If a larger apartment (Oak or Truffle) is available when you come I will happily upgrade you at no extra cost.
Beautiful luxurious farmhouse (full occupation 12 people), presented as :
Ground Floor: Ivy (studio for 2); Oak (apartment for 2); Truffle (apartment for 2);
First Floor: Tree (3 bedroom apartment for 6).
Highly rated: Liberté is the only gîte in the area with the highest accolade of 4 'epis' (ears of corn) or stars from the Tourisme du Lot tourist office. We deliberately don't have a pool because our key note is a peaceful ambiance in which to relax, undisturbed. It is a large old traditional Quercy stone farmhouse which has been beautifully restored, in keeping with its original period (1830) and furnished with style, flair and imagination, with all “mod cons”. The house and landscaped gardens have been specifically designed to lend themselves to a happy balance of privacy and sociability.
Visitors can take any one or any combination of units. If you want the main 3 bedroom unit (6 people), the occupation is exclusive, except for the owner, who will be on hand in one of the 1 bedroom apartments. 1 bedroom apartments are never all let out at the same time, so it would only ever be you and another couple but at opposite sides of the house. On the other hand, the whole house is suitable for family gatherings, parties, events, workshops and teaching/hobby groups and takes up to 12 people in couples. To reserve the whole house, 3 months notice is required.
Relaxing at Liberté: By choice there is no pool so Liberté remains peaceful and It’s a blissfully tranquil, peaceful place to holiday. There is no pool because we have opted for peace and quiet but its certainly not too 'precious' to have fun in! Amongst other areas for relaxing and dining, there is a fabulous deck with cold outside shower, set right by the summer house - with a fridge, music and a dining table for up to 12 people. Holidays are self-catering but the owner is a good cook and offers table d’hôte meals by prior arrangement.
High standards: Top class English king size beds with sprung mattresses, with Egyptian cotton bed linen; fully equipped and efficient kitchens, comfy sofas and a cool interior in the heat of the summer. If there is something missing, your compensation is a free bottle of bubbly, and hopefully whatever it is you are missing! Laundry room with washing machine and tumble drier, iron & ironing board, masses of games & jigsaw puzzles, BBQ's, table tennis, croquet, hundreds of DVD’s, videos & books. Garden furniture is comfortable & frequently renewed. 2 bikes for guest use. Powerful hairdryers, toiletries, tissues, loo paper, kitchen roll, linen and towels, cleaning materials & some basic groceries are provided.
The area: The area is ideal for walkers, cyclists, horse-riders, canoeists, historians, geologists, gardeners, philosophers, lovers of good food & wine, and those of you who are simply happy to relax and unwind - or any combination of the above! A wealth of fascinating day trips and outings await you! Enjoy the wine, the food and the company in a corner of France that remains pretty much as it was a century ago, and yet you are just 20 minutes drive from the modern conveniences of our nearby bustling, historical, market town, Cahors, with 2 markets a week, cinemas, theatre & abounding in cool cafes and restaurants. There are 15 listed Michelin Guide restaurants within easy driving distance. There is a wide cultural and musical programme throughout the summer season, including the Cahors Blues Festival in July. Liberte is surrounded by many attractive villages and towns, not least of all St Cirq Lapopie which year after year is listed as one of only 153 of France's “les Plus Beaux Villages de France”.
It is an adventure to experience the local culture, with food markets and musical fetes gourmands in abundance. Chateaux, gardens, caves, adventure parks, museums, galleries and quality shops abound so you are never short of something interesting to occupy you in-between relaxing days and evenings in the garden.
The picture is some of my girlfriends relaxing on the deck. It kind of encapsulates the essence of Liberte. I bought my house in 2004 and spent 2 years doing a total restoration project. The gites were launched in 2006 and have been running successfully ever since. I am basically a born and bred Londoner who decided at the end of a long and demanding career to move to France and 'live the life'. I have not been disappointed. I have two grown up children and live independently at Liberte in great comfort and happiness. One of my daughters got married from here a few years ago and it was a pretty splendid affair, with 100 guests and the ceremony taking place in the field under the huge pine tree. We had great fun! The keynote of life at Liberte is to take the time to really unwind and relax. I have always done my best to give people a memorable experience - a home from home. My reviews seem to reflect that I (and the place) have succeeded!
Mrs Chi Morgan purchased this apartment in 2004
This property offered a massive main farmhouse dating from 1830, part of which had not been lived in for 50 years, a vast barn in excellent condition and a fully functioning stone bread oven as well as 6 acres of land. I am a keen gardener and the land is a a well-maintained mixture of formal gardens, deck area, meadow, field and woodland. In 2013 I won the village prize !! So I am very proud of the gardens and flowers. I literally did fall in love with it immediately - I saw it on the Sunday and signed for it on the Wednesday ! It has never disappointed and I have the pleasure of sharing it with endless holidaymakers from all over the world, who equally fall in love with the place and the type of holiday they can have here.
I would say that the unique benefits are as follows: everything has been thought of. If there's something you need that we haven't got, you get a free bottle of champagne ! Everything is done to a very high standard, yet the house retains all of its old charm with exposed beams and stone walls. No anonymous generic beige, grey and white rooms here, as found in nearly ALL hotels and gites these days ! Each room is individually styled. There is deliberately no pool. Liberte offers a child free zone that is not likely to attract families and thus it is a total haven of peace and quiet with lots of different areas to relax in. But there are many excellent swimming opportunities nearby. With advance notice, you can opt for exclusive occupation of the 3 bedroomed house, and have the place all to yourselves. If you don't choose that option, you might bump into like-minded fellow guests (perhaps one other couple max), making new friends - or if you prefer, there is so much space that you need never see anybody ! At most, there will be one other couple staying here, in one of the other gites but they are on different sides of the house so very private. The house is on top of a big hill and thus has very good views all around. 'Liberte' by name and Liberte by nature!
The Lot in the Midi Pyrenees remains a very rural region, not as developed as some of the surrounding regions, much the same as it was a hundred years ago. There is a wealth of interesting places to visit and things to do. Every village has it's own fete throughout the summer and every week there is a gourmet feast and great live music, and food markets abound. Cahors is a great town, just 20 mins drive, overflowing with elegant shops, traditional and contemporary restaurants and cafés.
