The recently converted Old Hall Byre offers a high standard of accommodation, with modern conveniences and a character feel. It has three bedrooms sleeping 6 people. The king size bedroom is on the ground floor, and a double en suite and twin room are located on the first floor. There is a separate ground floor shower room. A large kitchen diner enjoys wonderful views through the bi fold doors and leads out on to a patio area for alfresco dining. Outside in the garage there is a utility area with a washing machine and tumble drier and plenty of space for storing bikes and equipment. The large drive can accommodate three cars.

"One of the best"





The cottage is well-equipped with everything we need, and the level of details is superb. The owner has obviously put in a lot of efforts to make the cottage very comfortable for its guests. The property is spacious. The location is well suited for walks and visits to many attractions in the Yorkshire Dales.



This is one of the best holiday cottages that I have stayed in, and I would recommend it to anyone who is planning a vacation in the Yorkshire Dales.

"Delightful property in a lovely location"





We are self catering veterans and would rate this property as one of the best that we have stayed in for a number of reasons. It has been converted to create a spacious yet cosy property, felt more like a home than a holiday let, was extremely well equipped and in a great location at one end of the village of Carlton. Two of our party were in their eighties and the ground floor bedroom and shower room fitted the bill perfectly. We all enjoyed bird spotting through the bifold doors from the comfort of the chairs indoors and did have one evening warm enough to open them and sit in the patio garden. There was little light pollution and it was very peaceful with views across the Dales. It was also a great touring/walking centre, and we would love to come back one day to carry on our exploration of the area. Must also mention the Foresters Arms - ate there on two evenings and were made very welcome. Even with a wheelchair it only took us around 10 minutes to walk to the pub, and the walk itself is a delight. Finally, we were fortunate to be in the Yorkshire Dales during the run up to the Tour de France, and were so impressed with the effort that the towns, villages, pubs and homes had taken to decorate a welcome. We even had a line of knitted yellow jerseys over the garage at the property. A gem!

"A Gem of a place"





We recently stayed here to celebrate Dad's 86th birthday and it was lovely. The Barn conversion is beautiful, with wonderful views from a superbly decorated kitchen. We loved the open aspect of the bifold doors and was just disappointed that the weather didn't allow us to enjoy the patio area. The barn was extremely well stocked and we lacked for nothing (except warmer weather). We enjoyed a superb meal at The Forresters Arms in the village with wonderful friendly service. The surrounding countryside is spectacular and after our days out and about the log fire at the barn was lovely. Couldn't fault anything and I am sure we will be back. Thank you Julie. There is additional seating round the front and the garden is secure with a gate. Attractive meadow garden. Utility Room: The utility room is in the garage. This has a useful sink, washing machine and tumble drier. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Towels and linen are included and they would be changed weekly. Other: The downstairs has underfloor heating which is powered by an air source heat pump and upstairs there are radiators. The downstairs shower room and toilet has a heated towel rail. The upstairs ensuite bathroom has a shower over the bath and a heated towel.

Very tastefully equipped with literally everything you could think of.

We thoroughly enjoyed our holiday in your cottage watching all the wildlife and the numerous species of birds from the beautiful bifold doors in the kitchen/diner. Great pub down the lane and beautiful scenery all around.

Fantastic!!

Beautiful barn conversion in a stunning location. A week here was just not long enough. A great place to unwind, take in the beautiful scenery and a fabulous base for some lovely walks. We've only been back three days and we're missing it already. The accommodation has been beautifully and lovingly converted and furnished and there is everything there that you could possibly wish for. We would highly recommend The Old Hall Byre to anyone and we will certainly be looking to return in the near future.

Wonderful week in Carlton

What a find. The byre was wonderful and warm all the time even when we hadn't lit the fire yet. The rooms where all lovely and our favourite place to sit was in the dining area looking out over the fields and watching all the wildlife.

The kitchen had just about everything you could want if you liked to stay in and cook. (A vegetable steamer would be a good addition) although the Forresters Arms five minutes walk away tempted us a few times, as did the fish & chip van that calls in the village on a Thursday. If you are looking for a quiet friendly village to stay in with walks from the door step this is the place, and The Byre is a must.

Beautiful inside and out

The cottage was gorgeous! cosy and homely. Excellent facilities. Quiet little village (you could hear a pin drop) with dog walks from the door. Local pub within 5 min walking distance & fish and chips from a mobile van on thurs night. Nearest bank/shops in Leyburn or the opposite road that takes you to Aysgarth there is a village store. The forbidden corner/Brymor icecream shop/Middleham castle/Aysgarth falls/Chocolate factory all nearby. . If you want some R&R away from the hustle and bustle of our towns and cities then this cottage is for you!

Ideal cottage in a lovely location

I was looking for a peaceful location for a relaxing break with my wife and this one proved to be ideal. Carlton is a lovely village in a ideal setting for walking and the occasional trip further afield. The pub is 5 minutes walk away and is very welcoming. The cottage had everything you could possibly need, was very clean and well-equipped and was very comfortable. Leyburn proved to be a regular trip for us to pick up supplies (try the local store there - Campbells I think it was - some nice locally produced meat and pies etc). All in all, we loved it and would recommend it to anyone looking for a peaceful break or a Wensleydale base for touring / walking etc. Not recommended if you don't like sheep and cows!
