House in Swanage, Dorset, England - Peaceful location on quieter northern edge of Swanage. 10-minute walk to beach and SW Coastal Path.

Yildiz, meaning "star" in Turkish, is our home, available to rent during the summer months. It is a lovely detached house built three years ago from traditional Purbeck Stone and is located in a peaceful cul-de-sac on the quiet northern edge of Swanage. A short walk takes you to Swanage's sandy beach, the SW Coastal path, local general store and Crows Nest pub.

The house is bright and spacious and is furnished to a high standard. It has wonderful views towards the Isle of Wight and Swanage Bay at the front and Ballard Down at the back. The ground floor has underfloor heating and beautiful travertine flooring except in the lounge, which is carpeted. The large lounge seats eight and has a SMART TV with Sky (including sports), a DVD player, a piano, board games and toys. There is also a downstairs toilet, utility room and kitchen that will lead into a new garden/dining room by Summer 2017. The outdoor dining table seats eight people and there is also a BBQ and a coffee table with two comfortable chairs on the patio. The fully enclosed back garden backs onto fields and boasts a summer house and two other seating areas to give sun or shade - as you prefer!

NB There is a small unfenced pond and stream.

Upstairs, there is a master bedroom with en-suite shower room, two double bedrooms, the larger of which also has a single bed, and a bathroom with over-the-bath rain shower. Instant hot water is provided by a gas combi-boiler. The front drive has parking for two cars.

Swanage is a charming seaside town situated on the Jurassic Coast, England's first natural World Heritage Site, with stunning beaches and coastal walks on its doorstep. Swanage has much to offer the whole family including a mile-long sandy beach, water sports, a Victorian pier, boat trips, restaurants, pubs and cafes, some interesting shops, supermarkets and several art galleries. Beautiful National Trust's Studland Beach is only a few miles away by bus or car. There are numerous festivals throughout the year as well as the annual Swanage Carnival Week, which starts on 29th July in 2017. The carnival offers firework displays, a procession, live music, children's entertainment and activities and lots of fun for all the family.

Other attractions in the local area include the National Trust's Brownsea Island (famous for its red squirrels), steam train rides to historic Corfe Castle, a children's adventure farm, tennis courts, pitch and putt and many local villages with tempting tea shops! Bournemouth and Poole with their shopping centres, cinemas and other activities is a short chain-ferry journey/car drive away. The area is also very popular with cyclists.

Yildiz is the perfect place to unwind after a day exploring Dorset's many attractions!

About Hilary Thraves

John and I moved to Swanage three years ago. We have three grown-up daughters, two of whom now live in Australia. The youngest lives in Milan, so we have plenty of beautiful places to visit throughout the year.

John is now retired. He originally trained as a horticulturist and has enjoyed landscaping our new garden in Swanage. I have recently retired from my job as a Marie Curie nurse.

Why Hilary Thraves chose Purbeck

John and I have been visiting Swanage since his parents retired there 35 years ago. We were always captivated by the beauty of Poole Harbour as we drove down to catch the chain ferry at Sandbanks and have grown to love the entire Purbeck region and beyond for its beautiful beaches, variety of lovely scenery and relaxed pace of life. Swanage is second home to our three daughters. When they were young, we used to camp for the summer at Knitson Farm and I always said that I was at my happiest when on a field in Swanage! John and I have parked our new caravan at Knitson for the summer and plan to live in it when renting out our home.

What makes this house unique

Yildiz, our family home, is situated in a quiet cul-de-sac on the northern edge of Swanage and enjoys glorious views to the sea, fields and hills. The light over the sea is constantly changing and we have cows and their calves in the field behind our back garden – both views real time-wasters! The house is light and spacious. The new garden room, due to be built early in 2017, will provide a larger dining area and a beautiful space from where to enjoy the garden and views over Ballard Down. The garden has a large sunny patio and several seating areas from where you can enjoy the views. The summer house offers shade and shelter if needed, with views to Ballard Down. The local beach and SW Coastal Path are 10-minutes’ walk away, as is the refurbished Crow’s Nest Pub. Ballard Stores, a great little corner shop, is 2-3 minutes’ walk from the house. It has easy parking and sells an excellent range of goods including fresh bread, milk and newspapers.

Lovely spacious and airy accommodation. I took my family, husband, two young children and my mother. Plenty of space for us all. Situated conveniently. House had everything we needed. Cosy in the evenings too. Highly recommended.

We were warmly welcomed by Hilary and John to their stunning house. Everything was perfect and more. Immaculate but comfortable and we enjoyed the luxury of it. Heavenly garden with so much to explore. Brilliant location with a lovely walk to a quiet beach. We can't wait for next summer to return to Yilditz.

Wonderful holiday home.

A beautiful, warm, comfortable and welcoming home from home. Very well appointed and beautifully furnished, enjoying what must be one of the best views and locations in Swanage, looking straight at The Needles (Isle of Wight) across the sea. We had a super, relaxing week's holiday. Both house and lovingly cared for garden offered plenty of space and places to unwind. Probably the best holiday home we have stayed in (and all have been good).

Yildiz certainly lived up to the very accurate description. It is a lovely house, very well equipped and beautifully appointed. The location is ideal for those seeking respite and relaxation away from the busy centre of the seaside town and yet within easy reach of the facilities and activities on offer in Swanage. The views from the house are stunning! Owners Hilary and John are extremely welcoming and helpful. Highly recommended.

10-minute walk to Swanage's mile-long sandy, gently-shelving Blue Flag beach with its traditional seaside entertainments and variety of water sports, including diving from Swanage Pier.

5 minutes by car to Studland Beach (30 minutes by foot over Ballard Down), a four-mile stretch of gently shelving sandy beach backed by sand dunes and heathland. Ideal for water sports and includes the most popular naturist beach in Britain.

Jurassic Coast beaches at Kimmeridge, Lulworth Cove and Durdle Door.

Swanage is an ideal holiday destination for all the family. It is located on the Jurassic Coast, England's first natural World Heritage Site, and on the Isle of Purbeck, an area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The South West Coastal Path, a 630-mile National Trail, starts nearby on the shores of Poole Harbour, claimed to be the largest natural harbour in Europe. The shallow harbour is popular for bird watching, pleasure boating, water skiing, wake boarding, windsurfing and kite surfing. Walks in the local area are varied - exhilarating cliffs, rolling downland, sandy beaches, forests and heathland.

Swanage holds jazz, blues and folk festivals throughout the year. In the summer, it is a vibrant seaside resort. Come at the end of July and enjoy our spectacular carnival week (29 July - 5 August) with firework displays, a procession, live music and an amazing range of events for the whole family. A variety of boat trips run from Swanage Pier, including mackerel fishing and trips along the Jurassic Coast. Local to Swanage are beautiful beaches, Durlston Country Park, Corfe Castle, Bovington Tank Museum and Monkey World. Nearby are picture-postcard villages such as Worth Matravers and Corfe Castle and several interesting historical towns including the market town of Wareham and the county town of Dorchester. Land and Wave in Swanage, Brenscombe Outdoor Centre near Corfe Castle and Dorset Water Park at Corfe Castle (new in 2016) offer a variety of land and water-based outdoor activities for the adventurous young and not-so-young!
