The Old Mill is perfect for getting away from it all, with landscaped gardens and a recently installed swimming pool .It is furnished with traditional furniture, which evokes the historical atmosphere of the cottage ,but with modern amenities. Set in a valley and surrounded by deciduous woodland it is a haven for wildlife and it is possible to walk through these woods and along the millstream . Close by is the River Blavet ,where it is possible to cycle or take even longer walks along the tow path . Other activities in the area include canoeing , fishing (there is a private Carp lake where day permits may be obtained or river fishing which requires a licence), horse riding and Art lessons ( by your hostess.www.mariegodest.com)
Hello , happy to welcome you and your family or friends in the Old water mill, where I grew up. I am French, but enjoyed Amsterdam for 15 years. I live close by, in an old school where I work . I am a professional artist, you may discover my creations and who I am on my web site.
godest marie purchased this cottage in 1962
The Mill was acquired in 1962, because of it 's very quiet and beautiful settings. The charm of the river, the old buildings and garden have been our focus, and the fact that even if remote, it is easy enough to get to the world, enjoy the next village (Melrand) for shopping or the lane along the Blavet for a push bike promenade.
As a perfect getaway from a busy life, just sitting in the garden, listening to the soft sounds of the river and birds is pleasures. Preparing a large dinner around the fire place and welcoming friends in the garden , then relax around or in the outside pool is a good way to enjoy a perfect day...
The garden has been created by my parents, Dad was an horticultor and Mum a painter, so you might enjoy the discrete artistic atmosphere all around...
We stayed in August for 8 days in this lovely cosy cottage , we: my husband two kids myself and our dog, drove through the gates , and were moved seeing the beautiful surroundings, gardens, pond, forest, and that was before we saw the inside of the house. Fairytale like, it was magical. Any person who is looking for a get-away from anything , this is the place to go to. Downstairs we lit every night the fireplace, we felt we were put back in time. Upstairs we stayed in our double bedroom (en suite) our kids in two separated bedrooms, all super cosy . They spent may hours just exploring the beautiful grounds, and using the little boat on a pond. We loved it, it would inspire any artist. For us and kids and dog the perfect holiday , with lots of places to see and visit , thank you to Marie and her Papa, a perfect getaway . Suzanne
We have just enjoyed a fantastic week at The Mill. A beautiful setting perfect for a relaxing, get away from it all, holiday.
The Mill has oodles of character and charm (as does the owner, Marie - we loved her too.)
The big open fire in the sitting room was a great way to end the day with a glass of vino. It's sympathetically furnished to suit its character with comfortable beds, towelling dressing gowns, towels and flannels provided.
On one side of The Mill there is woodland to explore with a small lake/large pond and mill stream wide enough to paddle the little boat along (big enough for two teenagers) and on the side the lovely heated swimming pool. This is a great addition this year with comfortable loungers and sunshade.
Marie also provided us with bicycles which our boys used to fetch fresh bread each day from the only shop in Bieuzy (closed Sunday and Monday's).
Our two teenage sons having recovered from their initial shock of 'no wifi' found they enjoyed all these simple pleasures more than they thought possible. We even had conversations and played cards
and boules in the evening.
Marie was a wonderful host and speaks excellent English. She made us very welcome, provided plenty of maps and information about the local area and was only a phone call away if we needed her.
We also joined her at her studio one morning for a still life art class which was great fun. (an additional cost).
Not that many restaurants close by. The Tourelle in Melrand (5 mins by car) was good and there are two in Saint Nicolas (also about 5 mins by car). There is more in Pontivy and Baud.
We spent a lovely day in Vannes (about an hours drive). The old part of the town is medieval with plenty of shops, cafes and a market Saturday morning until about 2.0pm.
We had a great holiday and wouldn't hesitate to recommend this property to others.
A big thank you to Marie.
This is a very special beautiful place. We were met at the property by Marie who was the most hospitable and charming host, and had drinks and nibbles ready for us as our journey was long and gruelling. The house is very comfy and full of the most gorgeous antiques and paintings. Marie and her Papa were so kind too and full of information and help and fast responses if we needed anything. The bed is very comfy and the garden and pool a delight. Best beaches at Quiberon about an hour away. We fell in love with the friendly cat Francois too and miss him... Lovely walks in the huge grounds of the property. Not a huge selection of restaurants nearby but we cooked in the kitchen and ate in the garden every night anyway listening to the tinkling stream flowing by. Relaxing...
