The origins of the chateaux dates back to the 14th century when the Aquitaine region was ruled by kings of England. In the 18th century the king of France authorised the construction of the noble house of Vieux Fourens. In the past 25 years the chateaux has been lovingly and authentically restored by its present owners Philippe and Marie George. There are two further outbuildings and a chapel on the grounds of the chateaux. The chapel dates back to the 16th century. It has a crypt and a fountain and if interested the owners would be pleased to tell you the history behind it. Located in the vineyards of Bordeaux you take the long and charming drive through the woods of its own to reach the chateaux in its well kept grounds. Beautiful apartment in the chateau. Stunning garden and pool, perfectly equipped!

  • 5 of 5

We had a lovely two week stay. We really enjoyed the house and gardens. The pool was lovely, a salt water pool, not chlorinated, so much better for the kids eyes and skin. Our boys fell in love with the friendly dogs there too. We would definitely look to return. Thank you Marie-George et Phillipe!

Comfortable Gite in an amazing setting

  • 5 of 5

We had an excellent week stay at Le Grand Bois. The gite was a good size and comfortable. The setting is one of the best we've stayed in. Quiet and extensive with wonderful views, woodland and vineyard. Marie-George and Phillipe were very friendly and helpful hosts and the dogs were also very attentive. Our dog, Dougal, is missing Luna a lot! It's location in Bordeaux is perfect for exploring the various appellations. Glad we have a 4 wheel drive to carry all the wine back to the UK! A gem.

Amazing villa within stunning surroundings

  • 5 of 5

We had such an amazing time. As a couple with 2 kids (6 and 10) this was the perfect place with a huge domain and forrest for them to run around in as well as a big private swimming pool.

You’ve got everything you need around such as a grocery store in Genissac, a few markets and with a car the ocean is reachable in an hour, Saint Emilion in 20 minutes, canoeing in 30 minutes, etc

The host, Marie-George and Philippe were delightful. Always happy to help but very discreet. They work very hard to ensure the house and its surroundings are always maintained to the highest standards.

Fabulous estate, location and hosts

  • 5 of 5

We really enjoyed our stay. The estate is beautiful and very well maintained and the owners have created a very special place.

The location is super. The gite has all you will need. The pool is well kept and secure if you are considering booking with children. We rented bikes for our stay and enjoyed cycling through the vineyards, avoiding main roads and experienced real local life including deer and other wildlife. We had some fantastic food, as well as the wines of course! Facilities at the gite are perfect for self catering and eating outside. We also ate at some great restaurants, including Auberge St Jean and Logis de La Cadene. On a side note, it does help if you like dogs, we do and they made our holiday, they are very friendly and we very much enjoyed their company. Thank you, we will definitely return.
