Dubost Marie-George purchased this Chateau / Country House in 1992
Why Dubost Marie-George chose Nérigean
The origins of the château dates back to the 14th century when the Aquitaine region was ruled by kings of England. In the 18th century the king of France authorized the construction of the noble house of vieux Fourens. In the past 25years the chateau has been lovingly and authentically restored by its present owner Philippe. There are two further outbuilding and a chapel on the ground of the chateaux. The chapel dates back to the 16th century. It has crypt and a fountain and if interested the owners will be pleased to tell you the history behind it.

We had selected this property for its location and overall feel and that did not dissapoint at all. We arrived on a Saturday evening and were completely taken in with the forrest sounds and smells, then with the beautiful view towards the hills. The dogs were a lot of fun and we made friends in about half a minute. The house is very solid and well furnished, but the layout is only suited for a couple or a family with small children. There are 3 extra beds besides the main bedroom, but they are in an open area with no separate bathroom. There is no door between the bathroom and the main bedroom, so it's not suited for two sets of adults for example.
The pool is great, but I would have liked a couple of chaise lounges that reclined so you could tan your back too.
The only problem we had was that on Monday the builders arrived and woke us up at 8 in the morning and continued to do so for the rest of the week. What we imagined a quite holiday with a few days around the pool was a bit spoiled by the constant banging and lack of privacy at the pool. The Marie-George and Philippe informed us that there were works being done on the house (which should have ended in May), but they only told us this when we arrived. We would not have booked this property had we known.
However, on the whole it is a wonderful place and we spent some great moments there.
Lovely home from home
Nicely decorated, slightly unusual layout but perfect for us, beautiful setting, very quiet locally but plenty to see and do within a short drive. The pool was well enjoyed by our boys (5, 7 & 10) as was exploring in the woods. The hosts were very nice and informative too.
This was a great house and we loved it! It more than delivered on all of our requirements. The grounds are stunning and the patio and garden are a private oasis from which to enjoy them. The furniture was very comfortable and the bathrooms were spacious with plenty of hot water and great water pressure in the shower. The kitchen had everything we needed since we weren’t planning on doing much cooking (note that there is no oven). It was a very convenient base for this part of our trip. There’s a small supermarket less than 10 minutes away and a large Carrefours in Libourne which is less than 20 minutes away. Marie-George and Phillippe were gracious hosts and are loving stewards of their property.
The house was perfect for the two of us and we would definitely rent it again if we come back to this area. We were sorry to have to leave.
That being said, there are some idiosyncrasies that aren’t obvious in the photos and others might find them bothersome:
There is no privacy in the second bedroom—it is an open loft (you can see the stairs in photo 20 of 51) and one needs to go through it to get to the master suite.
The layout of the master suite is awkward. The door from the second bedroom (the white door in photo 18 of 51) leads right into the master bath. Also, there’s no door between the master bath and the master bedroom.
For us, these quirks didn't detract from the enjoyment of the gite.
Lovely stay in the Bordeaux countryside.
The setting is wonderful. Long drive through woods, beautiful main house, and grounds offer many opportunities for exploring. House is comfortable with a deck offering a nice view of a portion of the property. Hosts were very responsive and helpful prior to and during our stay. Definitely would recommend this place.
Beautiful grounds, great for dog owners, gorgeous surroundings
The property is gorgeous, although a little misleading as the accommodation is an annex to the main chateau, rather than the chateau itself. You can walk around the property, and the buildings are gorgeous, as are the grounds and the surrounding countryside and woods. I brought my dog, and she had a wonderful time running around.
Lovely chateau stay in the French countryside!
Everything about this chateau is charming. The hosts were so very friendly and attentive to ensure we had everything we needed. While they reside next door they were never intrusive. We enjoyed hearing about the property from Phillip. Our boys (ages 8 and 11) LOVED Luna, Pako and Norway- the three dogs on site. They were the perfect welcoming and exiting company each time we arrived and departed the property. We enjoyed exploring the grounds, visiting the geese and other wildlife in this forested area. In October the temps were cool so they boys did enjoy a quick dip in the pool which would be lovely during the warmer months. The chateau itself is definitely special - tasteful, cozy and equipped with almost anything you will need. Do note: the kitchen does not have an oven which I didn't read or know beforehand. However, Phillip ensured we had charcoal to grill and that worked out well. Thank you, Dubost Family, for the lovely stay and recommendations for restaurants and places to go! The close proximity to St. Emilion, Bordeaux and other wine regions made the trip even better. Thank you for the lovely state - we do hope to come back!
