About Sara Thomas
When we moved back to the UK from the United States in 2006, our requirements from a village were simple- or so we thought! Good walks, excellent running terrain, a village pub, a community atmosphere and unspoilt properties with traditionally English character. Sibford has given us all this and more, it is an unspoilt village where no two days are the same; don't be surprised to see the hunt clip-clopping through the village, an escaped chicken wandering down the road, or the Red Arrows Aerobatic Display team flying overhead. We love it so much that we decided to buy Hillcrest Cottage (across the road from our main house) as a renovation project in late 2013. We hope we will be able to convey to you our love of the cottage, Sibford and the surrounding area when you come to visit us.

Why Sara Thomas chose Banbury
We lived across the road from the Cottage for 11 years, and imagined being able to buy it and give it the love and care it so sorely needed. When the opportunity presented itself, our next move was clear- to begin a labour of love which would take more than a year to complete. As you will see, we poured love and imagination into the project, revealing the unique and classic property you see today.
What makes this Cottage unique
Most Cotswold cottages are small, cold and dark with low ceilings and a certain inflexibility. Hillcrest could not be more different. The light, airy, timeless interior paves your way to the private walled garden, an oasis of calming lavender- making it the ideal location for a summer's BBQ or to enjoy a gin and tonic while reclining on the steamer chairs after a long day of sight seeing.

Had a fab stay. Lovely cottage with a gorgeous garden. Had everything we needed and would defo recommend
Well maintained, clean, and beautifully decorated
I think this was the nicest VRBO/AirBnB we’ve ever stayed in. All the appliances, dishwater, furniture, etc was first rate and worked flawlessly (the Aga was great once we understood its operation). Richard and Sara were attentive and responsive hosts. Sibford Gower is an unspoiled Cotswold village but an easy drive to many of the areas popular attractions. Our favorite was Broughton Castle, just a few miles away on the road to Banbury.
Lovely holiday spent in the beautiful cottage
We loved this cottage, it was clean, well stocked and we received a wonderful welcome pack. Great location within the English countryside with wonderful day trips and local walks. We stayed with two kids and there was plenty space, the cottage is bigger than it looks in the pictures. Hosts were available for questions and provided lots of useful info. We were lucky with the weather and got to enjoy the beautiful garden. Thank you and we hope to return soon.
The perfect place to stay to explore the North Cotswolds
Sara and Richard are wonderful generous hosts. The cottage and village are tranquil and idyllic. Its wonderful to arrive with some milk and basics awaiting. There are lovely footpaths nearby for walking. Everyone we met in the village were very friendly - a perfect place to stay to explore the North Cotswolds. We are repeat guests and just love this cottage - highly recommend.
A lot bigger than it looked in the pictures, immaculate and well equipped, with nice special touches like bathrobes and a welcome pack of essentials like bread and milk, we had a lovely stay and would definitely stay again.
Charming and Beautiful Cottage
We absolutely loved our stay!
Beautiful and newly remodeled yet it still felt quaint and charming in a farmhouse sort of way. The hosts were helpful and accommodating and got us going with a nice starter pack of bread, eggs, milk, tea, marmalade and butter. Beds were comfortable, bathrooms modern, and the kitchen is large with new appliances. The back garden is lovely.
The location is great: close to Banbury and Stow-on-the-Wold but far enough to really be out in the country. The stargazing was amazing. And there’s a great little pub around the corner. We did short drives to multiple Cotswold hotspots and Blenheim Palace and never felt like we were in the car too long.
Pictures simply do not do the cottage justice. We will definitely stay here again.
Birmingham airport is 45 minutes from the Cottage. There is a train which goes directly from the airport to Banbury train station, which is a 20 minute taxi journey from the Cottage. Taxis are available outside the train station.
London Heathrow is 75 minutes from the Cottage. Car hire is widely available from LHR.
Seven miles from Banbury.
30 minutes from Stratford upon Avon
40 minutes from Oxford (very traffic dependent)
40 minutes from Cotswold towns like Broadway and Chipping Campden
25 minutes from Stow-on-the-Wold
40 minutes from Bicester Village retail outlet for shopping
75 minutes door-to-door from London on the train from Banbury
Banbury is the nearest place to go for most amenities. We have a village shop which is walking distance from the Cottage, in the neighbouring village of Sibford Ferris. There is a French patisserie and butcher a short drive away in the Brailes. We have lots of excellent local pubs, The Wykham Arms, is 150 metres away and The Horse & Groom, is a 7 minute drive away in nearby Milcombe.
