About the property

House in Fontevraud-l'Abbaye, Maine-et-Loire, Pays de la Loire, France - Village Location Around The Corner From The Medieval Abbaye And The Many Village Restaurants

Plantagenet Place is a stylish town house in the very centre of the medieval Abbey village of Fontevraud –final resting place of the Plantagenet Kings Henry II and Richard the Lion Heart. The house is situated in a quiet road off the main Square and village shops and restaurants are only a few short steps away whilst the entrance to the 35 acre Royale Abbaye is just across the road. The ancient house has been newly renovated, retaining much of its original character with many exposed tuffeau stone walls and oak beams complemented by high quality furniture and luxurious fittings. It provides the ideal base to explore the Chateaux and sites of the Loire Valley. see our Guest comments here). Plantagenet Place is just metres away from our other property in Fontevraud - Abbaye Cottage - which also sleeps 4. The two properties may be rented for larger parties of 6 to 8 enjoying holidays together who want to have their own separate living space.

About Robert and Lucy Smith

Robert and I moved from the UK to make the Loire Valley our permanent home. We now own and run Loire Luxury Holiday Cottages and have recently completed the restoration of our second holiday house.

We maintain and look after the cottages ourselves -that way we can give you our personal assurance that they are furnished and kept to the very highest standards. We live only 30 minutes away and are on hand if you need anything extra during your stay.

Robert and Lucy Smith purchased this house in 2012

Why Robert and Lucy Smith chose Maine-et-Loire

We fell in love with Fontevraud during a holiday in 2007 and decided there and then it was the place for us! The Loire Valley has beautiful countryside, a rich river life, amazing chateaux and of course fantastic food and wines. There really is something for everyone.

What makes this house unique

Plantagenet Place is situated in the heart of the village, it is perfect for getting to the bakery for breakfast croissants or wandering to one of the great eateries for dinner in the evenings, or just relaxing with a glass of wine! We really hope that you enjoy your holiday in Fontevraud as much as we have done over the years.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Thank you Lucy for the lovely welcome and the birthday cake, what a surprise. We have enjoyed a crazy few days trying to explore many of the chateaux The Loire has to offer. We already plan to come again and see those we have missed. The weather has been perfect, Autumn colours just beautiful. your lovely cottage has been a perfect place to stay.

What an amazing find

  • 5 of 5

We spent a week here exploring the area. Such an amazing place as a base. The accommodation is excellent and the walkable restaurants kept us busy for the week. You can walk across the road to the abbey where Richard the lion heart is buried. Sitting outside drinking wine made us feel very continental. Robert and Lucy are extremely helpful and made us feel very welcome.

Fantastic accommodation in a beautiful location

  • 5 of 5

From start to finish the holiday was amazing and the bonus was the beautiful and comfortable accommodation. Nothing was forgotten in this quaint and luxury accommodation. The property has so much wonderful character and is spotlessly clean with an extremely comfortable bed. Wonderful shower with plenty of hot water. The accommodation is so quite but you are in the heart of Fontevraud village. Just around the corner is a wonderful bakery, pop the kettle on in the morning and have a slow walk to the bakery for your croissants and as you come back the kettle would have just boiled its that close. There are some fabulous restaurants in the village and also a little shop and a pizza restaurant which also do takeaway, no need to get the car out and also the Abbey is only a few meters away which is a must to visit. Everyone is so friendly in the village and will happily help with your French even if it as poor as mine. The owners of the property have made sure that there is nothing forgotten in this property to make it an excellent stay. Will defiantly stay again.
