Set in a sheltered valley among the rolling hills two miles inland from Slapton Sands, a little further to the popular Blackpool Sands, Cherry is the last Cottage to be built at Buckland Court. This very spacious high quality property in the Upper Courtyard is one of three mews cottages built with a sensitive application of both modern and traditional stone materials, furnished and equipped to a high standard and level of comfort. The entrance hall, which includes a small WC. On one side is a spacious living room on the other a beamed kitchen/diner with attractive limed oak units. The staircase from the kitchen leads upstairs to 4 bedrooms, 2 with en-suites, and a family bathroom.

We are Richard & Diane Smith

I live in England with my wife, our children having now grown up. My wife and I spend most of our spare time & holidays at Buckland, where we enjoy developing the house to improve the holidaying experience for our guests. The large gardens are a joy to work in with some unusual plants due to the very warm summers with mild winters.

We have really fallen in love with the South Hams

Why Richard Smith chose South Hams

Having holidayed here as a teenager, learning to sail and canoe on the river Dart my wife and I wanted to have a holiday base in the area for our young family. We looked to create a family friendly holiday home and first bought property at Buckland in 1988.

In 2001 we demolished some farm barns and built the new cottage -Cherry, reclaiming much of the original barn materials.

The areas beauty and opportunities for youngsters to enjoy water sports together with the pace of life in the South Hams convinced us this was the right place.

It is a joy working to improve the grounds and develop the large gardens. Having plenty of experience in holidaying with young children and looking after guests

we can recommend the area for family holidays.

With the many visitor attractions close by suitable for young and old and a huge variety of things to do this area suits all ages.

Coast/Beach:

Plenty of beaches a short drive away. 3 mile long Slapton Sands is under 10 mins away. Towards Dartmouth is the Blue Flag beach Blackpool Sands with restaurant/shop/changing facilities, no dogs allowed. About 20 mins away are Thurlestone, Bigbury, South Hall Sands, Beesands and Bantham for surfing with Burgh Island close by. More remote beaches closer to Start Point on the Southwest coastal path to Mattiscombe and Lannicombe. Secluded Millbay opposite Salcombe with North Sands close by.

Travel:

Cherry cottage is in a very rural setting and a car is essential.

We are about 1 hour 45 from Bristol, 40 mins from Exeter with airport connection, 45 minutes from Plymouth which is the nearest ferry port.

The nearest mainline station is at Totnes - 20 minutes drive from Buckland with trains direct from London Paddington and other parts of the country.

Distances:

The nearest village is Slapton 1.25 miles away with Torcross, Strete, East Allington, Chillington & Dittisham - 10/15 mins drive.

Nearest village post office at Strete.

Both Dartmouth & Kingsbridge have supermarkets & swimming pools -15 mins.

Totnes 15 mins.

East Portlemouth and Salcombe about 25 mins.

The South West Coastal path is 15 minutes away.

Dartmoor National Park - 30 mins.

Great pubs and restaurants in the area at Slapton, Torcross, Strete, Beesands, Chillington, Stokenham, Dartmouth, Hope Cove, Salcombe, Totnes & East Allington. Full listings available in the house.

Dartmouth for boat trips out to sea or up the River Dart, shops, restaurants, galleries etc. Also Dartmouth castle has been guarding the town since 1300's.

Lovely walks from Dartmouth and also Kingswear on the opposite bank of the river Dart. Steam trains from Kingswear to Paignton & Totnes to Buckfastleigh.

Dittisham for great crabbing with good pub and cafe. Visit Agatha Christie's estate, Greenaways by ferry from here (or boat from Dartmouth).

Kingsbridge has nearest Tesco and Morrisons with high street shops, post office, cinema, swimming pool, leisure centre, tennis courts. River boat to Salcombe at high tide in summer.

Totnes with large supermarket & leisure centre - lots of eclectic/interesting shops and cafes. Visit 12th century Totnes castle.

Dartington - gift and craft shops, restaurant.

Horse Riding - Dittiscombe.

Nearest Adventure Park - Woodlands Adventure Park - 15 minutes drive.

Water sports including sailing at various locations around the area including Blackpool Sands, Bantham, Salcombe & Dartmouth.

Notes on accommodation: This is a NON SMOKING property, although smoking outside is permitted under the strict condition that any litter and ash is properly discarded. Additional cleaning charges will be applied if these rules are not strictly respected. Well behaved and obedient pets are welcome with prior agreement. This remains a farming community so dogs must be leashed at all times and pet owners are responsible for cleaning up any pet refuse. Pets are not allowed on furniture or in bedrooms at any time. Outside: The property enjoys the use of the 1.5 acre communal gardens which includes ponds with chickens, ducks and moorhens. Brick barbecues and picnic tables Cows and sheep in adjacent fields. Ponds are unfenced so small children must be supervised. Dogs to be supervised in rear gardens as chickens & ducks present. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Towels and bedlinen provided. All beds have duvets. Property is cleaned and towels and linen changed once a week. Please provide your own beach towels. Highchair & cot provided. All fuel & electricity provided. Other: Wifi available (Broadband speed may vary due to rural location).

Good cottage for a family holiday

We enjoyed our family holiday at Cherry Cottage. The cottage was certainly well equipped for a family holiday, including young children. We have only rated the cottage as 3 star as some of the facilities are ready for a 'redo'

Deposit of 30% will be required at the time of booking with the balance due 4 weeks before the start date of your stay. If the booking is made within 6 weeks the full cost will be due.
Security deposit of £200 to be added when the final balance is due. Refunded on satisfactory inspection of the property 2 weeks after
departure.
Well behaved dogs allowed by prior arrangement, £25 per animal per break/week.

Changeover Day:
Changeover day is usually a Friday but other arrangements may be possible out of season. Arrival after 3pm, earlier baggage drop-off is OK on the day, by prior agreement, departure before 10am.

Notes on prices:
Cherry Cottage is available for short breaks during the low season at 70% of weekly charge
Cherry Cottage does not charge a booking fee.
There is a Cautionary Security Deposit of £200.
Payment by Card, BACS or cheque.

Owner's Cancellation Policy

100% refund if canceled at least 30 days before arrival date.
