This is a lovely and high quality 3 bedroom house in Fuentes - above the typically Spanish beachfront town of Almunecar, on the Costa Tropical with 2 stunning pools and panoramic views. The house is very well equipped with all modern appliances and WiFi is available. It is a beautiful and very spacious 3 bedroom, 2 bathroom (plus additional WC) with a large sun terrace. You will have stunning mountain and sea views from your lounge, terrace and bedroom and be able to enjoy a choice of 2 swimming pools both with stunning views of the coast and mountains set above the traditional Spanish town of Almunecar .The Panoramic Pool is open all year round, the Infinity Pool is open from June 15th to September 25th. The Costa Tropical is the lesser know part and more typically Spanish part of the Andalucian coast, just along the bay from Nerja. Still traditionally Spanish, Almuncar boasts a lovely meandering old town with a Moorish castle and has a buzzing atmosphere with many tapas bars and boutiques. The house is just a few minutes away from many beautiful beaches. From tiny coves to long expanses, some served by ''Chiringuitos''(beach bars) and some secluded, there's something for all beach-lovers tastes. In the evening you can dine in one of many waterside restaurants along the beachfront or enjoy the atmosphere of the old town's hustle and bustle - from basic Spanish tapas bars to some of the best seafood restaurants on the coast. Or, if you prefer to relax ''at home'', the spacious terrace has a large built-in barbeque, comfortable table and chairs with stunning views across the mountains and towards the coast. The house is less than 1 hour's drive from both Malaga and Granada airports. A car is recommended to reach the property and to get around, particularly on warm summer days when the walk back from the nearest beaches or the centre of town, although not very far, is uphill and can be a challenge in the heat!! Beach lovers will be spoilt for choice and those who appreciate the heritage of Spain will love ancient Granada and its world famous Alhambra, the unspoilt white pueblos and many places of interest. Nature lovers are just minutes away from the natural park of Pena Escrita, the beautiful, unspoilt promontory of Cerro Gordo and superb walking in the Alpujarras.

Why Steve Downes chose Costa Tropical

I chose the Almunecar area because although it has all the amenities you want from a great Mediterranean holiday - great weather, beaches and food it still retains its 'Spanishness'. It is a real Spanish town 12 months of the year.

You've the option of scoffing free tapas with the locals in a local bar or enjoying fine dining at the Marina. And everything in between!

The location is perfect all the local amenities on your doorstep and you can be in there less than an hour from getting in your car at Malaga airport. You can be in the glorious city of Granada within the hour.

What makes this house unique

You'll probably find the house more spacious and better fitted out than you might expect. That's because it wasn't bought to rent, but to be a second home for me and my family.

I'm a sucker for beautiful views, that's why I chose this particular location in Almunecar. It's at the highest part of the town and there's nowhere with a more spectacular panorama.

Coast/Beach:

Almunecar is a treat for beach lovers. Just over 1 km away are the local beaches of Velilla, Pozuelo and Tesorillo. Then there is Puerta del Mar and San Cristobel in Almunecar itself, and then Playa Cabria and La Herradura as you head towards the west including the Playa Cantarriján (nudist beach). Go just 15 min by car east and you reach the gorgeous town of Salobrena with it's long beach and glorious sunsets. You'll find many chiringuitos (beach bars) to relax and eat in.

Travel:

Malaga is the closest airport. It is just under 80km to the house. The journey takes less than an hour by car and is motorway almost all the way.

Distances:

Salobrena (15m) - a whitewashed township clinging to huge rock just back from the shoreline, topped by a Moorish castle and surrounded by lush sugar cane plantations.

Nerja (30m) - a lovely popular resort famous for its Balcon de Europa and beautiful beaches. The Nerja caves are on the outskirts and the attractive white village of Frigiliana lies just above.

Granada(60m) - the classic monumental cities of Andalucia its most precious jewel is the Alhambra. A visit here should not be missed

Almunecar is a traditional Spanish town on the unspoilt coast of the Costa Tropical. Almunecar town with its many tapas bars, restaurants and shops is just a 5 min drive away (20 min walk). There are plenty of nearby supermarkets and banks.

Founded by the Phoenicians almost 3000 years ago, Almunecar and its handsome Moorish castle sit on a small hill between the mouths of two rivers - the Río Seco and the larger Río Verde.

To the west of the town lies the Punta de la Mona, a pine-clad headland sheltering the attractive Marina del Este marina - a water sports base.

The most attractive part of Almunecar is the old pueblo Simply wander around its streets filled with boutiques and tapas bars and take in the maze of narrow passageways. Visit the old Moorish castle and gardens.

Both Almunecar and La Herradura offer a wide selection of restaurants of varying categories and styles. Many are located on the beach or near the beach fronts.

The beautiful bay of La Herradura is the envy of Almunecar and one of the prettiest bays along the south coast of Spain, and boasts a 2 km long sand beach. The village presents a typical aspect of whitewashed buildings climbing the gentle slopes of a small hill leading up from the beach.

Marking the western boundary of the town is the huge promontory of Cerro Gordo which stands alongside the bay of La Herradura. It has been declared a municipal park that's protected against development. A short hike rewards walkers with magnificent views

Almunecar has a waterpark which opens during the summer months, tennis courts at Velilla and Horse riding at Taramay. There is a dive school at the Marina and a paragliding centre.

For walkers there is the natural park of Pena Escrita, or the Alpujarras, the lower foothills of the Sierra Nevada famous for its walks.

Notes on accommodation: The house is on a hill. It is quick and easy to walk down to the beaches and restaurants, but the walk back up hill can be a strain if you're unfit! A car would be recommended if you plan to regularly go into Almunecar town and back. There are two shared swimming pools. The panoramic pool is open all year round, however the Infinity Pool is only open from June 15th to September 25th. A cot and high chair can be provided on request for a small additional charge. WiFi is available at the house on a pay as you go basis. Costs are 1€ per hour or 3€ per day, 15€ per week or 29€ per month. Outside: The house has a spacious sun terrace with spectacular views. It has a built-in barbeque, table and chairs for 6 to dine Al Fresco and a sun lounger. It has lighting for sitting out in the evenings. Fuentes has lovely landscaped garden areas with tropical plants everywhere. There are two shared swimming pools, both with panoramic views of the sea and mountains. Utility Room: Washing Machine, Hot water boiler, iron, ironing board Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: All linen and towels are provided. The house is meticulously cleaned before arrival. An additional, mid-stay clean can be arranged on request. Other: Separate dining area with Mexican wood table and 6 chairs. Sun Terrace with built in Barbeque, table with 6 chairs, sun lounger.

Superb part of Spain

House was nice and spacious and provided everything we needed for a lovely two week stay in a part of Spain that is (thankfully) far removed from the resorts further down the coast. Very well equiped and only criticism would be the bed was bit uncomfortable but other than that everything was good and as advertised. A car really is essential but it's an easy drive from Malaga and allows access to many lovely beaches in the area.

It is a steep climb back from the local beach and with nothing around the house (other than the lovely pool) eating out in the evening means either driving or a cab. We, however, were happy with a bottle of wine on the large terrace.

Loved this area, great holiday!

Really enjoyed our stay, the house was well equipped with everything we needed and very comfortable. Lots of really useful folders of information left by the owners which we made good use of. The air conditioning was a bonus as when we visited it was extremely hot! The views from the master bedroom and terrace were amazing. We miss those already!

The infinity pool was gorgeous and again the views were to die for. Even though we visited in August it was never too busy, we always had loungers and the pool and facilities were very clean.

Once we got our bearings we loved exploring the surrounding area and found Almunecar had a charm of it's own as it is typically Spanish and not as touristy as other areas on the coast. This only added to it's appeal for us and we would return to the area as there is so much more to explore.

Personally we found that walking from the property to the beaches and town was not an option. It was a very steep climb back and in the heat it was too much. In the cooler months it wouldn't be a problem but I would say a hire car is essential in order to get the most out of your stay.

Our only negative was the lack of a small welcome pack on arrival. We arrived in the evening having travelled all day and we had no idea where to go to buy water or other essentials. There is no shop within easy walking distance so a welcome pack would have made the start of our holiday a bit less stressful.

Overall we had a really enjoyable two weeks and fell in love with the surrounding area.

Lovely house, stunning views and great pool

We are a family of 4 (including 2 teenagers) and have just returned from a completely relaxing week in Alumnecar. The house was fantastic- very well equipped, spacious and with the most fantastic view from the roomy sun terrace. Air con was great and well used as we had a hot week!

We all enjoyed our stay and made full use of the fantastic infinity pool with its amazing views. The sun terrace was the perfect place to relax in the evening with a large G&T (and Wifi for the kids), watching the swifts and the occasional Hoopoe. We did walk into town in the evening once but to be honest, we all preferred to chill on the sun terrace with the views and excellent BBQ/kitchen facilities. We would recommend a car- we used Malagacar.com, who were competitively priced. We pre-booked tickets for Alhambra and all really enjoyed our day out in Granada - the palace was amazing despite the searing heat! Our tip would be to use one of the 24 hour shopping centre carparks south of the city (just off the motorway) for a stress free experience and we then used the hop on/hop off Granada bus tour to see the city- there are so many lovely plazas, vistas, shops and restaurants there- would definitely recommend this excursion. The kids enjoyed a day out at the Alumnecar waterpark which is just down the road and not too busy. We planned to explore more (Nerja and Sierra Nevada villages) but will save this for next time! We arrived on a Sunday and no shops really open so we were grateful for some of the cupboard supplies to tide us over until we went to the local supermarket the following morning (new Lidl very good with underground parking). A memorable family holiday which we all enjoyed- we will be back!

Fantastic mountain view property

Pros:

Wonderful evening views of the mountains and soaring swifts. Comfortable and clean property, very well equipped with all mod-cons especially the essential dishwasher! Beds comfortable and spacious in master bedroom. Appreciated comfortable and sociable outdoor seating with lovely cushions (no horrible plastic!). Easy local parking - car recommended. Friendly neighbourhood & some excellent local beaches with bars/restaurants strongly recommended. Amazing infinity pool where we spent most days relaxing. A trip to Granada is an absolute must, as is a visit to Nerja & the delightful whitehouse mountain village of Frigilana.

Cons:

Initial problems with water pressure quickly resolved by Steve who did everything he could to help.

Very good

We had a very good stay at this property. The listing was accurate as were the pictures. The property was very clean and had excellent facilities - all the white goods seemed new. It was very spacious. The owner was very easy to contact and answered all our questions promptly and provided excellent directions to get there. We would recommend the property. The pool was particularly good it was very clean and well maintained and even had a lifeguard. There were loungers and parasols available. The only drawback in our view to this property was that it was a bit of a hike to the beach and even more so to the centre of town. You definitely need a car for this location and I wouldn't have thought it was suitable for elderly people as the house is on three floors.

Just to clarify on the distances, it's only 1km from the nearest beach and a 10-15min walk downhill, but I appreciate the walk back uphill is more strenuous! The walk into the centre is longer, but quite nice along the promenade all the way? We then used to get a taxi back - about 7€. Thanks again, you and your family would be very welcome back any time! Stunning

A lovely house in beautiful location. The house is modern with large rooms and everything you could need. The owners have equipped it with quality furniture and kitchen equipment. The balcony has a built in BBQ overlooking the hills. The view is stunning and we spent hours sipping wine watching the view. The pool areas - there are two - are immaculate. Again the views from each are so beautiful. The location is very peaceful and idyllic. We loved it and will definitely go back to this house. There is parking outside. The beach is a short walk downhill - a little steep on way back! Locally there are dozens of restaurants and tapas bars that serve delicious food. The two on the local beach are fab and we rarely went anywhere else. The town centre is packed with quirky boutiques. Shoes, clothes, perfumes, furniture and gifts all more reasonable in price than UK or nearer to Malaga. The late night shopping one Saturday until 2am was amazing the whole town was buzzing with dancing and music. Overall it's a lovely place for couples or families. If you want nightclubs and all day English breakfasts don't come here. This place is unspoiled by tourism and feels very Spanish but you can get by without speaking Spanish but the locals are patient if you try 😎
