The small village of Laglio is one of the most enviable locations on Lake Como, (especially since George Clooney has a home here). Situated on the western shore (sunniest) it has the typical atmosphere of an old hamlet and is just a few paces to the lakeside from the Residence gate. Regina Residence is a converted lakeside metal mill featuring original stone walling and exposed beams and is set within its own communal tiered gardens and is a gated residence.
The interior design combines the traditional local character and is furnished in a contemporary style to a luxurious standard. There are two double bedrooms with king-size beds, one immaculately presented bathroom, a bespoke handmade kitchen finished with Italian granite surfaces. The adjoining dining and lounge areas offer stunning unhindered views both across and up the lake. There is a 32" flat screen TV, DVD, SKY and WiFi. The apartment has a private garage within the Residence which has secure automated entry and two lifts which means the home is suitable for all ages. Lake views can be enjoyed from the dining area, the lounge, master bedroom and bathroom. A small public beach is just a few minutes walk from the apartment. The village has 3 mini markets, a superb butcher, a post office and a bar just outside the Residence entrance. There are three restaurants within walking distance and within 3 kilometres there is a stunning lakeside restaurant - the Aqua Dolce - a visual feast and dining pleasure.
Laglio is one of three hamlets on the 'golden mile' and is not affected by commuter traffic as this is carried via an upper higher main road.
Laglio is about 10 kilometres from Como town and 55 kilometres from Milan (and only half an hour by train). It is just half an hour away from Malpensa airport and 45 minutes from Milan Bergamo airport.
We live in England and have two daughters and sons-in-law and four grandchildren. We pay very frequent visits to Italy.

We fell in love with the lake when we visited the stunning town of Bellagio on Lake Como during a touring holiday. The scenery is breathtaking and the towns and villages offer unrivaled opportunities to view the majestic lake and visit all the famous landmarks and villas. Having done our homework we decided to buy our apartment in Laglio – though at the time we didn’t realize we had a famous neighbour – George Clooney.
Our apartment is ideally situated on the Western shore (sunniest) just 10 kilometres from Como town and 50 kilometres from Milan and shopping in these two towns is delicious!
There is a lot of summer activity on the lake – sailing, windsurfing, seaplane and 2 funiculars. In winter Madesimo and St Moritz are within reach for ski-ing.
There are 3 restaurants within walking distance, as well as 3 mini markets, a superb butcher, and a post office. There is also a small public beach.
The uniqueness of our apartment is the unhindered views, both up and across the lake. There are no buildings between us and the lake and within a few steps of the gateway you are at the lakeside.
The apartment was in a beautiful village, and the views from the living room were fantastic. The views were equally as captivating at night time, The apartment is well maintained, and the bedrooms are good sizes. We went in early April and didn't sit outside but there are table and chairs to use. The weather was great when we were there, the children were in their shorts! The apartment is really modern, tastefully decorated and spotlessly clean!!! I really like it, and the bathroom is a good size too. You wont be disappointed. I am fussy and I would love to go back to this apartment. I went with my husband and two of my children, and I felt really at home.
We hired a car and the apartment has a secure facility for parking. The owners were really helpful and gave clear directions from the airport and tips on things to do and see which was much appreciated. We were met by a lovely local lady who guided us around the apartment and was on hand during our stay.
I would definitely recommend this apartment. I think that it is suitable for couples and families alike. We really did benefit from having a car. There is so much to see and do around the lake, and as we were only there for four days, we will simply have to return. We got a day ticket on the boat which allowed us to spends time in several villages and have a wander, we took the cable car in Pigra which offers fab views of the lake, ate several pizzas and ice-creams and enjoyed driving up high each evening to visit some of the hamlets to find a café and enjoy a hot chocolate and the views! There are lots of cyclists exercising and enjoying the views and walkers too.
I have nothing negative whatsoever to say about my holiday and am impressed all round with my first trip to Northern Italy and all that it has to offer.
There is a small public beach in Laglio where you can soak up the sun plus further beaches 2.5 kilometres away.
The nearest airport is Malpensa - just a half hour drive. Milan Bergamo airport is approximately a 45 minute drive. Car hire is recommended if you intend to explore areas away from the lake. However, it is possible to explore the lake itself by boat and public transport. There is a bus stop just outside the Residence gate.
Local village Carate Urio is 2 kilometres away with boat stop for all areas of the lake. Moltrasio is 7 kilometres away and Cernobbio 9 Kilometres, Como 15 kilometres and Menaggio 35 kilometres. The Italy/Swiss border is just 20 minutes drive away and Milan is a 55 kilometre drive or a half hour train journey. Sermione is a couple of hours away by car and Verona about 2 and a half hours away. Venice can be reached within three hours.
There is a large supermarket and shopping mall on the outskirts of Como - just 15 minutes drive away.
During the summer lake como offers sailing, windsurfing, seaplane and there are two funiculars. The apartment also has secure bike storage.
