Saint-Antonin-Noble-Val Cottage Rental Photos and Description

Cottage above Saint Antonin Noble Val, - Beautiful clean, quiet location in the hills above a bustling market town.

Featured in Living France Magazine August 2015.

Our lovely cottage is set in 10 acres of oak woodland and meadows full of orchids, river swimming is a short distance away & with no near neighbours tranquility is the name of the game.

Separate from the main house the cottage has private parking and a large private garden. The spacious accommodation is quiet & clean, a great space to relax in with windows giving lots of light and lovely views over the gardens. Artistically designed with old beams, a mix of wood & marble flooring & decorated in soft colours throughout this is a supremely calm space. Downstairs is a comfortable double bedroom with old beams & a wooden floor, a bathroom with shower, basin & toilet & a large conservatory. The conservatory can be used either as a sitting room with very comfy sofa's or can double as another bedroom if needed, it is a lovely room with a marble floor, high ceilings & an ultra efficient woodburner which you can use should you need extra warmth during the evenings in early spring or autumn. The garden taps on the windows all around with many plants that attract butterflies & bees, you can sit at your leisure & watch nature at its best.

Upstairs the country kitchen/diner is well equipped & has long views over distant hills and the wildlife ponds. The large organic gardens attract an incredible variety of life, hare and deer frequently visit, the flowerbeds are full of butterflies, dragonflies zoom over the ponds and the nightjar comes in the evening dusk to drink as the bats swoop above.

The large private garden surrounding the cottage is complete with lawn, shade trees, BBQ and garden furniture.

All the properties power is supplied by the wind and sun, we have been awarded Tripadvisor Greenleaders at the highest level for our commitment to ecological business practices for this sustainable holiday venue.

There is fantastic walking with footpaths in all directions right from the front door and just 4 miles down the road is the lovely medieval riverside town of St Antonin Noble Val which was the setting for the films "The 100 Foot Journey" and "Charlotte Grey" The town has a famously colourful Sunday market and many bars and restaurants. You can canoe the river from here, participate in various outdoor activities or just sit and watch life drift by.

We try very hard to make our guests stay private and relaxing, we know how important a holiday is and are on hand if needed.

About Laura Horvath

We're enthusiasts of food, travel & adventure & spent many years exploring Europe in our old bus before backpacking further afield to both Cuba & Morocco. Inspiration led us to create & build our house entirely ourselves & learning how to work with old materials - ancient tiles & timbers has given us a home to be proud of. Gardening is also high on the list & we have a fantastic organic garden which along with our own off grid electricity makes us virtually self sufficient.

Laura Horvath purchased this cottage in 1997

Why Laura Horvath chose Tarn-et-Garonne

This area of the Midi Pyrenees really grabbed us. With its wild gorges & flower filled meadows, beautiful medieval villages & vibrant markets not to mention the friendly locals- we knew this was the place.

When we bought the property it was a prefab set in thick woodland, we designed & built the whole house between the 2 of us & learnt to be builders along the way!

The whole property has been built in a sustainable way using many reclaimed materials such as quarry tiles from the 18th century & old oak beams. We also built the whole place using only power from the wind & sun which we feel is an incredible achievement.

We have been awarded Greenleaders at the highest level by Tripadvisor for our commitment to providing sustainable holiday accommodation & are being featured as home of the month in Living France Magazine.

What makes this cottage unique

Have you ever sat in a garden where over 30 types of butterfly drift past, where the silence is all enveloping, birdsong, dragonflies over the wildlife ponds. Where the light reflects the blue sky above & at night there are a million stars in a velvety sky. Our property is unique in so many ways - clean, quiet and totally relaxing.

We have been awarded Greenleaders at the highest level by Tripadvisor for our commitment to providing sustainable holiday accommodation & are being featured as home of the month in Living France Magazine.

We try very hard to provide a lovely holiday venue. Our guests love the space & total tranquility.

The fact that our splendid local village has been the setting for both the films "Charlotte Grey" & "The 100 Foot Journey" has meant that we now get visitors from all over the world but somehow the area never feels crowded & retains it's real French flavour.

Guestbook comments from the owner

A spotlessly clean and comfortable gite, with good outdoor facilities to relax. Plenty of eco-electricity to keep things running. Chickens, ducks, pigeons and cats for amusement, and abundant wildlife around the ponds and in the garden to wonder at. Sid and Laura were good for a chat but not intrusive, very informative about things to do and places to go in the local area, and attentive when required. All-in-all ideal hosts and an ideal location for a two week rural chill-out.

Wonderful beautiful holiday home

It was a very beautiful and clean home that was lovingly cared for and beautiful gardens. We went on many walks and trips that Laura and Sid recommended that were hidden secret delights. Great memories. Laura and Sid were always helpful but never intrusive.

A five star week

  • 5 of 5

Having searched Tripadvisor & read the many excellent reviews we have to say that we agree with them - my wife Sharon & i enjoyed ourselves so much. The property was exactly as described, spacious, quiet & beautifully clean surrounded by the most fantastic garden. The local area is stunning, wonderful markets & ancient villages. Our hosts Sid & Laura couldn't have been kinder or more discreet & provided us with an action packed itinerary so that we didn't miss out on anything. We have already booked to return this year. Would highly recommend.

Coast/Beach:

River beaches are within four miles, many and varied from sand and shallow water to deep swimming areas. There are some wonderfully quiet places to picnic & to spend a day of total relaxation by the water, alternatively you can spend the day canoeing the fantastic gorges, stop at the Manjo Carn for refreshments & watch the locals jumping from the huge rocks into the river, then meander downstream to be returned to your starting point by mini bus.

A day out at a local market is an absolute must. With markets on a daily basis in one or other of the nearby villages you will be spoiled for choice with wonderful fresh produce, fruit, cheeses, wine, everywhere you look. If you're a gourmand look out for the local "Marche de Gourmand" where you can join the locals in tasting freshly produced local food & wines.
