About the property

Chalet in Morillon, Haute Savoie, Rhone-Alpes, France - Quiet Village Location, Only 500m Walk From Gondola To Ski In The Grand Massif

Chalet Marmotte is a luxurious timber-clad chalet offering great style and comfort. With 5 bedrooms and a mezzanine area, it sleeps 12-14 people comfortably.

The Grand Massif provides skiing for all abilities and it couldn't be easier as the chalet is very conveniently situated approx. 500m from the gondola in the beautiful village of Morillon.

The interior is exceptionally bright and spacious, offering a cosy, charming feel with it's wood burner, exposed timber and underfloor heating. To help you relax after an exhilarating day's skiing there is a satellite TV and DVD player and WIFI is freely available. The impressive modern kitchen is particularly well-equipped. There are a vast array of appliances available for your use including a large American-style fridge/freezer, 4 ring ceramic hob, double-oven, microwave, dishwasher, electric kettle, toaster, electric coffee maker, washing machine, dryer and iron. A raclette and fondue set is provided for those who want to try and make the local dishes for themselves. A baby cot and highchair are available at no extra cost.

The chalet benefits from a sunny south-facing balcony and a large terrace.

The chalet is easily accessible, being only an hour's drive from Geneva Airport.

For everyone's comfort this is strictly a non-smoking chalet.

Flaine, Les Carroz, Samoëns, Morillon and Sixt are five interlinked ski areas called ‘The Grande Massif’. It is the fourth largest winter sports region of the French Alps offering 265km of ski slopes which encompasses 144 pistes (Approx. split: Green 12%, Blue 41%, Red 37% & Black 10%).

This vast ski area is ideal for skiing of all abilities, from absolute beginners to the experts who may like to try the ‘Combe de Gers’, undisputed for great skiing and powder snow with a difference. It offers great diversity - altitudes of 800m on the north facing slopes for the most daring through to the easy 14km long cascades ski slope which criss-crosses the Sixt Fer a' Cheval nature reserve for the more conservative.

Morillon 1100 offers a Crèche for families with very young children and a ski school for all ages. Both are conveniently positioned next to the gondola.

There are 3 ski hire shops in Morillon, near the gondola (approx. 500m walk)

You will never be at a loss for things to do when not skiing as within Morillon/Samoens there are just so many activities on offer e.g. Walking/hiking, rock climbing, white water rafting, canoeing, golf, fishing, pony trekking, swimming, paragliding, parapenting, mountain biking (bike hire available locally), ice skating, tennis courts, Indiana Parc at Samoens (adventure course incl. zip wires), archery, and basketball.

About Stephen Winter

We are Stephen and Claire Winter, a husband and wife team from Cumbria. Having 3 children we are fully aware of what makes a great family holiday and feel this is reflected in the chalet.

Stephen Winter purchased this chalet in 2001

Why Stephen Winter chose Morillon

We discovered Morillon and knew it was the ideal location for both our family skiing holidays and summer holidays, so had the chalet built in 2001. We use the chalet as many times a year as we possibly can. Being 500m from the gondolas, skiing in the Grand Massif just couldn't be easier. The Grand Massif is suitable for any ability, so even if we go with a group of friends with very varied abilities, there is something for everyone. We are an active family and in the summer months love to take advantage of the host of sporting activities available. We have tried most things, even parapenting!

What makes this chalet unique

Being on the edge of Morillon village, in our opinion, is perfect. Morillon is small, beautiful, unassuming and quiet and yet still has everything you require within walking distance e.g. few small shops, bars and restaurants. It is on the doorstep of the larger village of Samoens, which is stunning and offers cuisine of every standard, supermarket and leisure activities. In addition, the chalet is only an hour's drive from Geneva Airport, so easily accessible.

Further Details:

The chalet is positioned on the edge of Morillon village with a few small shops, bars and restaurants within easy walking distance. There are many walks to enjoy, both on the mountains and in the valley basin following the river. In the summer the ski lifts are used to take mountain bikes up the mountains for exhilarating rides down-hill.

Less than a mile away is the very pretty French village of Samoens. It offers delicious cuisine, bars, supermarket, botanical gardens, fromagerie, cinema and DVD rentals ( English and French). Samoens has a public open air swimming pool , cycle tracks by the river and a whole host of summer activities available.

Both villages hold lively market days which are well worth a visit. Local produce can be bought for very fair prices.
