This charming and elegant country house is located on a beautiful hillside within an exclusive and private gated borgo. Il Ciliegio also has its own private gardens and a large secluded terrace with views down to the Tiber valley. You can enjoy breathtaking views of the landscape of Umbria, Italy’s green heart from the terrace, pool and gardens. Only 9km from the historic city of Todi and within easy driving distance of many of the major cultural centres of Umbria and Tuscany: Perugia, Assisi, Orvieto, Siena, Montepulciano, Gubbio, Spoleto. Todi commands a stunning hilltop position 400m above sea level and has been continually inhabited since the pre-Roman Etruscan times. The house is easily accessible from Perugia airport (40mins) and from both of the Rome airports (1hr 45mins). In keeping with its traditional roots, the stone-built house has been expertly restored to create a luxury home with plenty of original features. Terracotta tiles, chestnut beams and partially exposed stone walls retain an authentic country feel, whilst the modern kitchen, bathrooms and comfortable furniture add a more contemporary edge to make your stay even more luxurious. The large and secluded terrace offers a shaded 6-seater dining table for al fresco dining and there is also a BBQ included. Enjoy relaxing and taking in the views of the valleys below on the luxurious and sumptuous outdoor furniture with parasol. A beautiful place to watch the sunset with a glass of local wine. The borgo itself comprises only 11 properties, an Astroturf tennis court (balls and racquets provided) and a large swimming pool with loungers. There is a caretaker who lives onsite all year round and tends to all of the communal areas. He is generally available for any questions you may have about the house or the borgo.

Great getaway and location to see much of South Umbria parts of Tuscany and Lazio
Week 2 location after being based just outside Florence week 1. The villa catered for our relaxing, sightseeing and being together holidaying as a family . Great views overlooking the valley and within diving distance of Todi. From here we were able to visit Orvietto , Orte, Lake Bolsena, Civita di Bagnoregio with ease. We also visited Rome travelling on train from Orte but had no cooler weather options (First week in August) and found it very uncomfortable. It was good to spend the following day relaxing at the Villa next to the pool where despite being hot there is a usually a nice breeze coming down the hills. Finishing off with a really good meal on the terrace which faces west to see beautiful sunsets. Good eating out options in Todi where like most hill towns parking is tight so use the funicular car park. Would highly recommend we were a party of 6 which Tony advised was possibly tight and whilst I could understand that and say 5 or less is probably the best situation due to individual family members doing there own thing for us there wasn't a space issue. Car wise -it is well to note the last mile isn't metalled but is in good condition whilst none of the Italian roads are not in fantastic condition. I rented a mini - SUV which turned out to be a Ford Ecosport not the VW I requested anyway despite poor reviews the car was more than adequate and gave a comfortable and great visibility on the Italian roads whethere metalled or otherwise. Returning to the villa my best endorsement is, that I would recommend to any of my friends who might want to visit the area.
Stunning property in a fabulous setting
We absolutely loved our trip to the property. There had been unprecedented rain in Umbria leading up to our trip and a lot of the swimming pools were out of action in Umbria. Tony and Gwen were really concerned that our holiday was not spoilt and did everything they could to ensure we had a perfect holiday. I would highly recommend this very very stylish property, beautifully designed, stunning terrace and fabulous location.Todi is a wonderful little town and lots to do in the surrounding area.
Thank you so much for your kind words - we do try to help out as much as possible when things that are out of our control don't go to plan! So glad you enjoyed the house and the area so much.
Great place with really good facilities.
The house is very well equipped with all mod cons. In the centre of Umbria and with an hour of the most interesting cities and attractions. Very comfortable for the four of us. A bit tight for 6 but non the less a great place to stay.
A magical time in Umbria
We had a wonderful time at Tony & Gwen's beautiful villa, with the most stunning sunset & sunrise views. Would return to this part of the world in a heartbeat. The villa had everything you could need, so comfortable and beautifully kept.
Beautiful hi spec property near Todi
We had a lovely week at this beautiful property near Todi. Directions were excellent as was the information provided by the Owner. The property is one of several on the Borgo but is separate from the others and feels quite private. The patio at the back is a real highlight furnished as it is with high quality sofas and patio furniture. Overall the property if furnished to a very high standard and is kitted out well with everything that you could need to make a great holiday. The shared pool was excellent.
Thank you very much for your kind review. We have tried to make the house as comfortable as possible by kitting it out with things that we think are useful when you are on holiday.
Hidden treasure in Umbria
A hidden treasure, not easy to find without the directions from the Owner! This house really surprised us, even better than the picuctures show. The house is an orriginal Umbrian style house, combined with the comfort and luxery you would want from a holiday home. We arrived in a very well cleaned house, the beds were made and a bottle of wine was waiting for us in the kitchen. This house has all you need and more, everything you could think of is there. Great furniture on terrace (with spectactular views and stary nights), including the BBQ and belongings.
The pool is really lovely, the kids spent hours cooling down, with the parents relaxing on the private loungers.
In Todi we found one of the best gelaterias we tried during our two week stay in Italy. Todi is a nice little town, with nice restaurants and friendly people. Umbria itself is at least as lovely as Toscany, with lots of authentic little villages, but still undiscovered by the masses, giving you a great Italian experience (no tourist traps :-)).
This was one of the best holiday homes we have ever rented, I would highly recomment this to anyone who would like to spend some time in lovely Umbria.
