We have created a space that is as easy and relaxed as a beach holiday apartment should be, equipped throughout to a high standard, offering a home from home appeal. A modern space that feels cosy in the evenings and open and bright during the day.The 2 large sun terraces offer the opportunity for outdoor dining and private sunbathing. The apartment is situated in the El Carmen complex that sits on the edge of the small fishing village of El Cotillo on the west coast of the island. The nearest surfing beach (seen from the top sun terrace) is a short walk and the more secluded and sheltered lagoons are only 10 mins walk located at the other side of the village. Of course, if you are a seasoned traveler to Fuerteventura, you will likely have hired a car to take full advantage of the other beautiful beaches on the rest of the island, although of course this is not necessary as there are plenty near by. A taxi from the airport takes about 40 minutes and once at the apartment, there is a well stocked supermarket just across the road, so everything is in easy reach. El Cotillo has a lovely selection of traditional restaurants where you can try locally caught fish or paella or pizza and chips if you prefer ! Away from the bustle of fully inclusive resorts, El Cotillo offers a quiet escape from a traditional resort holiday but with all the home comforts to hand. Surfboard and bike hire are available just 2 mins walk away for those that prefer a more energetic holiday. WiFi is included for up to 2 devices or you can purchase more wifi locally. We love this place and hope you will too !

About Patrick Ayling

We live in London with our two children aged 13 and 16.

Patrick is a production manager for an events company and often travels the globe.

Zoe is an office manager currently working in a local primary school.

We are an active family, Zoe a trained dancer, marathon runner and Olympic torch bearer.

Patrick is a windsurfer, surfer and skier. Although he does not compete any more he still finds time for an adrenaline rush.

Georgia is an accomplished musician, a bass guitar player, she is often at gigs either playing or watching.

Jude is an ice hockey goalie and trains or plays matches three times a week.

We never seem to sit still !

We love life and love Fuerteventura as it offers us everything from reading a book in peace to surfing a perfect wave.

Why Patrick Ayling chose El Cotillo

We first came to Fuerteventura on a surfing and windsurfing expedition in the 1980s. We fell in love with the place so much that we have returned almost every year since without fail.

Last year an opportunity to realise a dream presented itself to become owners of a property in a place we also call home.

El Cotillo has a rustic charm that is irresistible. It offers the peace of a getaway destination with the convenience of shops and facilities to hand and is surrounded by beautiful beaches.

What makes this apartment unique

We have equipped the apartment with love, care and practicality. The fully equipped kitchen offers everything from toast to Sunday roast. Or if you prefer to spoil yourself, a sunset walk followed by a meal in one of the authentic local restaurants is a must.

A drink with the locals in one of the numerous bars followed by stargazing on the upper terrace on a sun bed before bed is a favourite of ours.

Morning is greeted with stunning views and watching the sun rise over the mountains with a cup of Nesspresso in your pyjamas (if you are up early enough!).

Life slows down on Fuerteventura and we always say it has a way of letting you catch your breath.

Notes on accommodation: The Apartment has ample parking in the communal car park and a gated entrance to the stairs leading to the locked door to the main terrace. Outside: The Larger of the 2 terraces has 2 sunbeds and large dining table and 6 lovely comfortable chairs for eating, drinking and chatting under the stars. There is ample room for storing surf boards etc on the terrace without feeling cluttered. The Upper terrace has 2 sunbeds and a table and 4 chairs for lunch with a view, or just sitting and reading undisturbed. Utility Room: Washing machine, Iron and ironing board and vacuum cleaner are kept in bathroom 1 Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Beach towels, Bath towels and bed linen are all provided and changed on arrival and every 7 days. The property is managed locally by an English speaking family who are on hand to help and advise. Other: We have created a modern space that feels cosy in the evenings and open and bright during the day. The apartment is perfect for a beach holiday and has an easy to use feel about it. The 2 sun terraces offer the opportunity to eat outside or sunbathe.

Well equipped lovely apartment with the benefit of two outside terraces.

We enjoyed our stay in this apartment in El Cotillo very much. The apartment is within easy walking distance of the village with it's plentiful restaurants and cafes. It is also easy to get to the beaches and beautiful coastline on foot or by car.

Everything you need provided, if you prefer to eat in. The hosts and the local couple who look after it are easy to contact and helpful. The only slight downside for us was that the minor road below was quite busy with cars going out on the tracks to beaches. Very nice and quiet at night though so still recommended. Hope to visit again when we weather better so can sit outside in evening.

A great little apartment - the photos don't do it justice

The apartment was very well located and extremely well equipped. The owners blatantly spend a fair amount of time there as they have thought about pretty much everything. Cool bag, cool blocks, Nespresso machine, every cooking utensil you could need, BBQ etc.

The only negatives were in the bedroom. I am a big fan of a decent pillow and sadly the apartment only had hollow fibre polyester pillows which offer very little support. The bedding also appeared to be a mixture of cotton and polyester, however I can’t be sure as I didn’t check. Due to being there when it was relatively cool in the evenings, this didn’t bother us too much but I wouldn’t want to be there in the height of summer without pure cotton bedding.

Patrick was very quick to respond to all queries and we had no need to contact the owners during our stay. So, apart from the bedding, a great little place to escape to.

Very spacious apartment with lovely patio area.

Absolutely loved apartment. Very well equipped kitchen, good size sitting and dinning area, also good size patio area with large dining table. Spacious bedrooms and very comfortable beds. Supermarket opposite and short walk to beach. Would highly recommend this apartment.

We are so happy to have found this beautiful little gem in our favourite part of Fuerta Ventura.

The apartment is as described. It's comfortable, contemporary, very clean and well appointed, it has beautiful views and two private outside areas. There is plenty of room for four people. The furniture and contents are very adequate for a self catering holiday, and it's a short 5 min. walk to the fishing harbour and very nice restaurants and coffee shops. 5 mins in the car takes you to the beautiful lagoon swimming beaches and rock pools. There is good parking facilities outside the apartment , and it's a stone's throw to a very good supermarket.

The apartment is reached by an external flight of stairs, so pack light. The stairs might not be suitable for very young children or the elderly. We can recommend this apartment without hesitation.

The nearest beach, seen from the terraces is a 10 minute walk.


Fuerteventura airport is a 40 minute drive.

There are taxis available and a regular bus service around the island.

A hire car will give even more opportunity to discover this wonderful island, but not essential as everything you need is to hand on the doorstep

The apartment is perfectly situated for surfing, Kitesurfing and Windsurfing and the terrace is big enough to store all your kit whether rented locally or if you brought your own.

Wifi is free for 2 devices from the local provider if you need to keep Connected. You can purchase vouchers for more devices if you need to locally.

There are numerous surf schools around if you are that way inclined and plenty of bars and cafes if you are not !
