Glanatnaw is a restored Irish Cottage and Barn with stunning views over the valley and hills, just outside of Bantry. Winding your way out of Bantry, you find Glanatnaw tucked away up a private drive way in a secluded and peaceful spot.
Sleeping up to eight people in four bedrooms, this is an idyllic spot for a family holiday or holiday with friends. The buildings have been restored to provide open plan space in the converted barn, with views over the valley. There is a double bedroom in the barn with the remaining cosy bedrooms in the restored cottage. Whilst very comfortable Glanatnaw if very much a rural retreat (no television or wifi), however our previous guests have loved its rustic nature. A perfect base to explore the local area, from bustling market towns, to wild stretches of coastline and stunning walks in the hills.
We are a family of four with two daughters and have been visiting West Cork for the past 10 years. We fell in love with the area and the cottage and the barn, and love coming on holiday here to spend time in the quiet of the hills and using the cottage as a base to visit local beaches, markets and go on some of our favourite walks. There is always something going on in the local area and each holiday feels different.
Charlotte Tindall purchased this barn in 2005
We visited West Cork on holiday and loved it vibrancy, fantastic local food, great music and warm welcome. On a whim we looked at a few cottages for sale and fell in love with this cottage and barn up a secluded track. The warm sun was on our backs and before we knew it we had put in an offer! The cottage and barn needed quite a lot of work, but over the years we have restored and renovated to give it a relaxed and comfortable vibe. It is finally just as we'd hope it would turn out and every time we look at the view it makes us smile.
We love the peace and tranquillity, but also that we can hop in the car and explore all the wonderful local areas.
We absolutely loved your house and had a wonderful holiday. We will definitely be back again!
The house is fantastic. We loved being able to walk out the front door and take the dog for a walk. Fantastic scenery.
Bridie and Sean (key holders) are lovely too. Very friendly and helpful.
The barn is wonderfully laid out - so much space and beautifully decorated.
We would highly recommend the house and will be back for sure.
We loved the fact there was no tv or wifi. We brought a lap top and a projector and watched movies one or two evenings.
Our only critique were the lack of a banisters in the cottage.
A simply beautiful house tucked away in the stunning Irish countryside. Great rural location and the house has all you could need on a holiday. A wonderful friendly welcome- we spent an idyllic week here and will be back !
We were a family of 8+ and have just returned from the most relaxing week spent at Glanatnaw!
It surpassed our expectations in every way. A lovingly restored old barn and farmhouse, it had ample room for our three generations of family! It is simply yet very tastefully decorated and is so well furnished and kitted out that we wanted for nothing. We cooked up a storm in the kitchen many a night and fed lots of hungry mouths at the wonderful large rustic dining table.
The views are simply breathtaking and whether you're 6months, 6years or 60years..Glanatnaw really is food for the soul.
The lack of tv/wifi was welcomed for the week and without the distraction of modern technology our evenings were spent playing board games, cards, chatting and generally spending lots of old fashioned quality family time together.
Bridie and Sean, Charlotte's neighbours are so warm and welcoming and made us feel right at home. It was great to know they were nearby if needed.
The location was perfect for us. Although very rural it was less than 15minutes to Bantry town which had all you needed. There is great angling nearby at Lough Bofinne and as we had a few avid anglers in our party, fresh trout was on the menu most days. Glanatnaw was a great base to discover west cork or even near enough to explore parts of South Kerry if one wanted to head over the border and into the Kingdom. We packed loads in during our week and were never short of places to see and things to do.
Charlotte was a pleasure to deal with from start to finish and we all want to come back again soon.
The cottage and barn were everything I had hoped for. Very comfortable and as described, this was a perfect place for a family gathering. We all had such a great time and would have happily stayed another week. We had a wonderful meal one evening at Heron's Cove and I would recommend Glengarriff Golf Club which hired golf clubs to us. I have already recommended Glanatnaw to friends. Charlotte answered any queries I had promptly before I booked and all I can say is thank you for letting us share you house. I suspect we will be back !
First impressions last. This house has been so beautifully restored and is even more charming on the inside. The peace and quiet is to die for and although we were a little hesitant at first, because we have two young children, the lack of wifi and a TV is heavenly. Giving us not only a great holiday home for exploring the stunning region but a break from the constant business of the plugged in world.
The house has everything you could need, from toys and games, to lots of books about the surrounding areas and the basket of treats on arrival was so lovely.
It is a great location for exploring the region, 10 min drive into Bantry and about 18mins to Skiberreen. We found it was a super spot for going north into Kerry and south, to the headlands, towns and villages of west cork
I would go back in a heart beat as there's still so much exploring to do. There was only one detail missing, central heating. This is Ireland and even in July we had the fire lighting, every night in the first week. Thank god for the big wood burning stove. And the second week nature did what it was supposed to do and provided us with warmer summer temperatures!
The cottage was remote but the owners instructions and directions were great and it was close to Bantry and other great places in west Cork.
The Barn was beautiful, very well equipped kitchen, great bathroom and utility. Three big sofas, the fire was wonderful of an evening, all local shops stock wood and bricks for it.
We visited during a very cold period, the barn wasn't great with the fire on, a little chilly in the mornings but the electric heaters helped.
The cottage has three bedrooms all a great size. Again once the heaters were on it was very snug.
Only advice re the bathroom in the cottage is that it has a very cold slate floor so if you don't want cold feet whilst showering take flipflops, it has a bath but the shower is a wet room so the floor is always wet.
We had an amazing stay and it's an incredible place and great value given the space. Definitely recommend it, the owner was amazingly helpful as were Sean and Bridie.
Stylish property in a very peaceful location. A warm service from the key holders Sean and Bridie.
