About Lindsay Arnell

Lower Folds is owned by husband and wife Steve and Lindsay who live in the neighbouring county of Staffordshire. We have always loved visiting and walking in the Peak District.

We take great pride in being able to offer high quality holiday accommodation to our guests. We always endeavour to welcome guests personally to the cottage and we are on hand to offer advice on the local area and to respond to any events needing immediate attention.

As dog lovers ourselves, we don't believe that you should have to compromise on the quality and comfort of your accommodation in order to bring your dog with you on holiday.

We look forward to welcoming you to Lower Folds.

Lindsay Arnell purchased this cottage in 2015

Why Lindsay Arnell chose Derbyshire Dales

We had searched for the perfect property in the Peak District for many years.

Our criteria was simple but surprisingly difficult to satisfy.

The cottage had to:

- be in the National Park

- be within walking distance of a good "foodie" pub or restaurant

- have its own private garden to provide a secure environment for young families and dogs

- and have its own parking so that you don't have to spend your precious holiday time hunting for a space.

We stumbled across Lower Folds in Over Haddon on one of our many walks and knew immediately that it was the one for us.

We think it's perfect to unwind and relax and we hope you will too.

What makes this cottage unique

Lower Folds is conveniently located in the quiet village of Over Haddon yet only 2.5 miles from the all the shops, restaurants and amenities offered in Bakewell.

Over Haddon overlooks the National Nature Reserve of Lathkill Dale, one of the most beautiful dales in the Peak District.

Within walking distance of Lower Folds is the CAMRA awarding winning Lathkil Hotel serving excellent food and a wide selection of real ales, ciders, lagers and wines. Also within walking distance of Lower Folds is the Garden Tea Rooms serving hot drinks and sumptuous home made cakes.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Couldn't ask for more from start to finish. Warm and friendly greeting to a beautiful cottage, tastefully decorated, spotlessly clean with facilities that were second to none. Highly recommended.

beautiful cottage in idyllic location

  • 5 of 5

Lovely comfortable cottage, tastefully decorated with beautiful views out over the hills. Kitchen has wide range of equipment and good quality crockery and utensils. Lindsay was very helpful, and the plentiful supply of local maps and walking guides were much appreciated. Enjoyed walking down to the river, ideal for bird lovers. Also did the Monsal cycle trail twice, which was great, though would advise getting there early, particularly in school holidays, as very busy by late morning. Bike shed at back of cottage was handy.

Lathkill Hotel has simple unspoilt bar area with great views over the dale, good pub food, if a little overpriced compared to other local pubs. Overall, thoroughly enjoyable stay, and would definately recommend this cottage and location!

Gorgeous cosy cottage with great walks straight from the door.

We had a lovely stay at Lower Folds. The cottage is stylishly furnished and equipped with everything you might need. Lindsay was there to greet us when we arrived and the welcome pack was a lovely touch. We went on some lovely walks through Lathkill dale and would've explored further afield if we had more time. The cottage is in a great location for exploring the Peak District and I would definitely recommend staying here.

We was met by the Owner ( Lindsay )with a warm welcome and a steaming hot cup of tea with biscuits.......and even an offer to help with our bags!

The Cottage was tastefully decorated for Christmas in every room with a beautiful Christmas tree in the Main room.

We found the Cottage very comfortable and exceptionally well equipped throughout. Located on the doorstep of some amazing walks and stunning views.

We would have no hesitation in recommending this Cottage to anyone for a true 5 star experience.
