About Lindsay Arnell

Lower Folds is owned by husband and wife Steve and Lindsay who live in the neighbouring county of Staffordshire. We have always loved visiting and walking in the Peak District.

We take great pride in being able to offer high quality holiday accommodation to our guests. We always endeavour to welcome guests personally to the cottage and we are on hand to offer advice on the local area and to respond to any events needing immediate attention.

As dog lovers ourselves, we don't believe that you should have to compromise on the quality and comfort of your accommodation in order to bring your dog with you on holiday.

We look forward to welcoming you to Lower Folds.

Lindsay Arnell purchased this cottage in 2015

Why Lindsay Arnell chose Derbyshire Dales

We had searched for the perfect property in the Peak District for many years.

Our criteria was simple but surprisingly difficult to satisfy.

The cottage had to:

- be in the National Park

- be within walking distance of a good "foodie" pub or restaurant

- have its own private garden to provide a secure environment for young families and dogs

- and have its own parking so that you don't have to spend your precious holiday time hunting for a space.

We stumbled across Lower Folds in Over Haddon on one of our many walks and knew immediately that it was the one for us.

We think it's perfect to unwind and relax and we hope you will too.

What makes this cottage unique

Lower Folds is conveniently located in the quiet village of Over Haddon yet only 2.5 miles from the all the shops, restaurants and amenities offered in Bakewell.

Over Haddon overlooks the National Nature Reserve of Lathkill Dale, one of the most beautiful dales in the Peak District.

Within walking distance of Lower Folds is the CAMRA awarding winning Lathkil Hotel serving excellent food and a wide selection of real ales, ciders, lagers and wines. Also within walking distance of Lower Folds is the Garden Tea Rooms serving hot drinks and sumptuous home made cakes.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Couldn't ask for more from start to finish. Warm and friendly greeting to a beautiful cottage, tastefully decorated, spotlessly clean with facilities that were second to none. Highly recommended.

Excellent holiday cottage

  • 5 of 5

Lovely comfortable cottage extremely clean and well maintained. Great welcome by Lindsay on arrival with information on the cottage and the area. Welcome pack was a lovely idea especially the wine and biscuits which disappeared very quickly! Had some great meals especially The Royal Oak at Hurdlow and The Bulls Head at Monyash. Couldn't have had a nicer cottage for our stay. We hope to return.

Perfect location

  • 5 of 5

We've stayed in several cottages before but this was the best yet. Very quiet location, beautiful property and perfect for my wife and I, our 11 year old daughter and our dog. We were met on arrival by the owner who made us a cup of tea as she told us the key information for the cottage and recommendations of things to do and places to eat. This was a really nice thing to do and much appreciated. The cottage was a perfect size for us and our dog. It has all the facilities you could want.

We ate at various pubs while we were there. The Peacock in Bakewell was very good ( although very busy!). We also walked to Youlgreave (2miles away) and went to the Farmyard Inn on a Wednesday night for 'pie night'. Make sure you book as the place is small and very busy (probably the best pies we've ever eaten!). The Bulls Head in Monyash was very good too.

The Monsail trail was an excellent cycle route and highly recommended. Parking in Bakewell can get quite busy. Try to get there early.

We'd definitely recommend staying here. Easy to find and excellent customer service from the owner.

Fabulous property

  • 5 of 5

We were very impressed with the accommodation - spacious and impeccably clean. We were greeted by Lindsay upon arrival, plus the 'welcome pack' was over and above what we expected - not only milk, bread, butter, biscuits but wine as well!! This property is extremely well located for visits to the surrounding areas and can highly recommend it to anyone wanting to 'chill out' or walkers wanting to explore the Peak District. If we visit this area in the future, we will certainly be contacting Lindsay for availability. Carol and Phil - Western Australia.

Superb!

  • 5 of 5

Really good location, very well equipped and perfect for our weeks holiday.

Very spacious inside, and a lovely garden overlooking the fields (especially lovely for our little boy who became very fond of Charlie, Danny and Murphy - the 3 horses in the field!)

The location is perfect for a trip to Bakewell, Matlock or even just a lovely walk with plenty of different options available.

The local pub is superb and the food was lovely. The Bulls Head at Monyash was a favourite too as its beer garden is attached to the huge village playground so perfect for the little one as well as the adults!

We also tried a couple of recommendations from the owners of the property - Rajas Indian Takeaway and also The Red Lion. Both were absolutely top class.

We would not hesitate to recommend Lower Folds and we look forward to visiting again in the future.

Excellent, clean and well equipped cottage, Highly recommend

  • 5 of 5

Great cottage in a great location for exploring the peaks straight from the cottage or many other places a short drive away.

Very clean (would not know dogs had been in before) and absolutely everything you could ask for was provided, including dog towels, treats, poo bags for our dog and amongst usual items (well in some cottages) like towels, tea towels, washing up liquid, washing powder was a lovely welcome pack including wine, biscuits, tea, coffee (to use in provided coffee maker), milk, butter and other lovely things which we ate and I now cannot remember, sorry!

Also a lovely personal touch of a meet and greet from the owner. We will be back, thanks again.

Excellent

  • 5 of 5

We stayed for a short break in June. Lindsey the owner was there to welcome us on our arrival. The cottage is beautiful both in location and interior. Everything you could ask of a rental cottage and more, the best we have stayed in. Home away from home. We will definitely be recommending it to family and friends and urge anyone who reads this who is unsure just book you won't regret it.
