About Andy & Sue Murtagh
Andy, Sue, their 2 children and pet spaniel all live at Yates House in Nidderdale. Though we are not farmers, we love the rural life and are surrounded by beautiful farm land and moor. Yates Cottage sits in our grounds, overlooking pasture, a small lake and the valley beyond. We take great pride in welcoming guests to both our cottage, but as importantly the surrounding area, which really holds something for everyone. When guests come to Yates cottage, we will do what we can to help them have a great holiday.
Andy & Sue Murtagh purchased this Cottage in 2011
Why Andy & Sue Murtagh chose Borough of Harrogate
The cottage started life as a stable, being part of the original farm which dates back to the 1750's. Over the years, various owners have developed the stable into a single storey 2 bedroomed home. After we moved to Yates House in 2008, we decided to fully refurbish the cottage as a dedicated holiday let and the work was completed in 2011.
What makes this Cottage unique
As it is within the grounds of our home, we naturally think it is ideally located for those who want to enjoy a rural retreat, but to be only 20 minutes in different directions from Harrogate, Ilkley, Skipton, Pateley Bridge, Grassington, Ripon and the many, many attractions they offer.

Idyllic rural retreat
A wonderful relaxing stay in a fantastic setting. The cottage has everything you need including games and DVDs for rainy days. The views from the cottage are beautiful and it is centrally located for numerous excellent places to visit including Harrogate, York. Harlow Carr, Brimham Rocks and Malham Cove. The hamper was very welcome and generous. We would recommend McKenzies Smokehouse which is about 5 minutes drive away and has excellent food to eat in and take home.
Andy and Sue are excellent hosts and could not have been more welcoming. We highly recommend this cottage and will be visiting again.
Dear Michelle & Adam,
Thanks so much for your lovely compliments and so quickly posted after your departure! We're really glad you visited and that you had a comfortable and enjoyable week. You certainly explored the area and we hope the cottage was everything you needed when you returned each day.
Best wishes from Yorkshire and we hope to see you again some time.

Beautiful cottage in idyllic setting ...close to so many amazing attractions
Fabulous cottage with everything you need and more. Beautiful area of the Dales close to so many wonderful places
First class property in a beautiful location.
Yates cottage is situated in a remote but beautiful location. First impressions were very favourable and it did not disappoint. We spent ten days there and loved every moment of it. the accommodation was spotless and very comfortable. The facilities were excellent and we wanted for nothing.
Andy and Sue (the owners) had provided a super hamper of lovely food, which as much as we tried to resist on calorie counting grounds we failed miserably and ate most of it! They also called in several time just to make sure that we were totally comfortable and were keen to make sure that were enjoying our holiday.
We have stayed in many cottages over the years and the is the best by far for comfort and location.
An amazing cottage..in the most idyllic spot..
Yates cottage with their owners sue..& Andy is the best holiday we have ever had...they are a lovely couple ..couldn't do enough for us...the cottage is in a fabulous setting..a lake very close by..so quiet...so peaceful...we are booking up for next year...
Everything we'd hoped for, and more.
Reserving a holiday home can be a bit of a lottery. I spend hours poring over the given information and the pictures before making a decision, as it's so important to get it just right .With Yates Cottage we won the lottery!
Our hosts Andy and Sue were so thoughtful and so much fun.
Everything in the cottage was so well presented and fresh, clean and comfortable.
We were delighted to discover how very private we were and loved looking over from the patio down to the little lake with its resident duck families.
We were able to explore the peaceful local area and it was easy to travel further afield. There are several places to eat out within a 5 mile radius but eating in was no hassle as the kitchen equipment was easy to use.
The beds were so comfortable and the wood burner very efficient, should it be needed.
We have no hesitation in recommending this lovely Yorkshire gem.
If you are searching for the best place to stay in Yorkshire, then look no further!
Yates Cottage was probably one of the best places we've ever stayed at...such a beautiful cottage in a perfect setting. Andy & Sue are super hosts, friendly and helpful but totally respectful of your privacy.
The cottage is detached from the main house and in its own private courtyard with a patio overlooking the large natural pond which is a haven for wildlife. A birdwatchers dream! We loved the peaceful atmosphere so much.
Everything has been thought of in the cottage itself, comfortable beds & sofas, and a woodburner for chilly weather (though we were very fortunate to have beautiful weather so didn't need to make use of it). All the furnishings are of a high standard.
A special treat was the delicious hamper that Sue left for our arrival...full of top quality local produce, including a home made fruit cake.
The local area exceeded all our expectations! This was our first visit to Yorkshire and we fell in love with it. The nearest small town, Pateley Bridge was just lovely, and it had everything you needed...quality independent shops which were very reasonably priced. Other places which were easily reached like Skipton, Harrogate and Howarth made for very enjoyable days out.
We wouldn't hesitate to go back to Yorkshire and wouldn't dream of staying anywhere other than Yates Cottage if we're fortunate enough to return.
A car is required and therefore recommended.
Pateley Bridge 4 miles. Harrogate 12 miles. Ripon 14 miles. National Trust Brimham Rocks 4.5 miles.
Pateley Bridge has good food and amenities some 4 miles away, though all major supermarkets will deliver if required. There is a convenience store in Summerbridge open until late and several pubs serving food within a 10 minute drive.
Changeover Day: Our preferred changeover day is Friday, but we can be flexible subject to other bookings. Arrival after 3pm and departure before 10am is normal, but not always necessary.
