About Andy & Sue Murtagh
Andy, Sue, their 2 children and pet spaniel all live at Yates House in Nidderdale. Though we are not farmers, we love the rural life and are surrounded by beautiful farm land and moor. Yates Cottage sits in our grounds, overlooking pasture, a small lake and the valley beyond. We take great pride in welcoming guests to both our cottage, but as importantly the surrounding area, which really holds something for everyone. When guests come to Yates cottage, we will do what we can to help them have a great holiday.
Andy & Sue Murtagh purchased this Cottage in 2011
Why Andy & Sue Murtagh chose Borough of Harrogate
The cottage started life as a stable, being part of the original farm which dates back to the 1750's. Over the years, various owners have developed the stable into a single storey 2 bedroomed home. After we moved to Yates House in 2008, we decided to fully refurbish the cottage as a dedicated holiday let and the work was completed in 2011.
What makes this Cottage unique
As it is within the grounds of our home, we naturally think it is ideally located for those who want to enjoy a rural retreat, but to be only 20 minutes in different directions from Harrogate, Ilkley, Skipton, Pateley Bridge, Grassington, Ripon and the many, many attractions they offer.

Idyllic rural retreat
A wonderful relaxing stay in a fantastic setting. The cottage has everything you need including games and DVDs for rainy days. The views from the cottage are beautiful and it is centrally located for numerous excellent places to visit including Harrogate, York. Harlow Carr, Brimham Rocks and Malham Cove. The hamper was very welcome and generous. We would recommend McKenzies Smokehouse which is about 5 minutes drive away and has excellent food to eat in and take home.
Andy and Sue are excellent hosts and could not have been more welcoming. We highly recommend this cottage and will be visiting again.
Dear Michelle & Adam,
Thanks so much for your lovely compliments and so quickly posted after your departure! We're really glad you visited and that you had a comfortable and enjoyable week. You certainly explored the area and we hope the cottage was everything you needed when you returned each day.
Best wishes from Yorkshire and we hope to see you again some time.

If you're looking for a place to stay in Nidderdale, you just found it
We had a fantastic stay at Yates Cottage. Andy and Sue made us welcome from the moment we arrived. They greeted us at the cottage, explained how everything worked and made it clear that they were available to us for anything we needed during our stay. The cottage itself makes for a real home from home and is undoubtedly one of the best accommodations we have rented. The peace and tranquility of the location, combined with the comfort of the accommodation, meant we left Yorkshire feeling well rested. We experienced most weather possibilities during our stay, including snow, and so we made good use of the wood burner (ample supply of logs provided). I consider the location of the property ideal for exploring all of Nidderdale, Yorkshire Dales and Harrogate/Ilkley/York. Less than 5 miles from Pately Bridge and 12 miles from Harrogate (fast road), we had ready access to everything we needed right on our rural doorstep. This was our 5th visit to this area and we've stayed in different places over the years, but this is the place we hope to return to. I almost forgot the hamper - this was a real treat, and put together with care and attention to ensure you get a real taste of Yorkshire. Thank you.
We’d give 10 stars if poosible
Everything about our stay at Yates Cottage was perfection. It was warm, cosy, comfortable, inviting with breathtaking views. Andy, Sue and their kids are everything you’d want to find in your hosts. Friendly, welcoming, generous. The welcome hamper far exceeded our expectations. We were lucky enough or unlucky depending on how you view it ( we thought lucky ) to experience the beast from the east ...extreme winter weather event .....which hampered our adventures somewhat but our little cottage kept us safe and warm. We cannot recommend Yates Cottage and Andy and Sue highly enough and we certainly hope to return some day.
Well presented and beautiful location for our festive winter break.
You couldn't fail to be impressed and made to feel welcome by the owners of this cottage.
We have just returned from a wonderful stay at Yates Cottage. We had read the reviews and we weren't disappointed.
The cottage is set in a beautiful, peaceful location with easy access to Harrogate,York,Ripon and Skipton.
Everything is spotlessly clean and tastefully furnished. The hamper was very welcome, lots of lovely Yorkshire goodies. Sue had made a lovely fruit cake.
Sue and Andy are perfect hosts. Nothing was too much trouble and they made us feel very welcome.
We will be recommending Yates Cottage to friends and family who are planning a holiday in Yorkshire.
Thank you Sue and Andy for a lovely holiday.
Five stars for comfort and inspiration!
Yates is fabulously comfortable with comfy beds, warm duvets and a log burner. There is a warm welcome from the owners on arrival and a hamper packed with local foods. The cottage is spotless and it's a perfect hub for visiting nearby attractions in the Yorkshire Dales. The setting of the cottage is inspirational. Fields, sheeps, stone walls and a duck pond and the kind of silence you can only find in Yorkshire. There's also wifi and a flatscreen tv but we preferred to play Scrabble! We'll be back next year!
A car is required and therefore recommended.
Pateley Bridge 4 miles. Harrogate 12 miles. Ripon 14 miles. National Trust Brimham Rocks 4.5 miles.
Pateley Bridge has good food and amenities some 4 miles away, though all major supermarkets will deliver if required. There is a convenience store in Summerbridge open until late and several pubs serving food within a 10 minute drive.
