Located in idyllic open surroundings, this luxurious detached cottage has been created with great attention to detail. This ‘listed’ building has been tastefully transformed to create a stylish two bedroomed cottage within the beautiful grounds of Yates House located in a rural, yet convenient position, making it the perfect holiday retreat. With views over a small lake and down the dale, a warm welcome is sure to await you providing an ideal getaway for any time of year. Tennis and fishing in the summer, or a winters night in front of the wonderful wood burning stove flickering throughout the spacious open plan living area. Yates Cottage is an ideal base to explore by car, or for walkers, and has access to public footpaths through Nidderdale right from the doorstep. Mountain biking or road cycling are also very popular in the area with its quiet winding roads away from the busy ‘hustle and bustle’. The ‘Spa’ town of Harrogate is definitely worth a visit - famous for its magnificent architecture, upmarket shopping, colourful gardens and the ‘Yorkshire Show’ which takes place over three days during the second week of July. The Cathedral cities of Ripon and York, together with Ilkley and its famous moor also lie within easy reach and a visit is sure to make a memorable addition to any holiday. Close by are the pretty dales towns of Pateley Bridge, Grassington and Skipton offering a true traditional taste of ‘life in the Dales’. Tourist attractions in the area include Stump Cross Caverns, the Duke of Devonshires sporting estate at Bolton Abbey, the world heritage site of Fountains Abbey and Studley Royal, the National Trust’s Brimham Rocks, or the famous RHS Harlow Carr Gardens. After a fun day exploring the area or just relaxing in the peace and quiet, you may wish to enjoy afternoon tea in the famous ‘Betty’s Tearooms’ – a real ‘Yorkshire’ treat!

About Andy & Sue Murtagh

Andy, Sue, their 2 children and pet spaniel all live at Yates House in Nidderdale. Though we are not farmers, we love the rural life and are surrounded by beautiful farm land and moor. Yates Cottage sits in our grounds, overlooking pasture, a small lake and the valley beyond. We take great pride in welcoming guests to both our cottage, but as importantly the surrounding area, which really holds something for everyone. When guests come to Yates cottage, we will do what we can to help them have a great holiday.

Why Andy & Sue Murtagh chose North Yorkshire

The cottage started life as a stable, being part of the original farm which dates back to the 1750's. Over the years, various owners have developed the stable into a single storey 2 bedroomed home. After we moved to Yates House in 2008, we decided to fully refurbish the cottage as a dedicated holiday let and the work was completed in 2011.

What makes this cottage unique

As it is within the grounds of our home, we naturally think it is ideally located for those who want to enjoy a rural retreat, but to be only 20 minutes in different directions from Harrogate, Ilkley, Skipton, Pateley Bridge, Grassington, Ripon and the many, many attractions they offer.

Outside: There is a private patio with furniture including an umbrella. A charcoal BBQ is also available. Fly fishing on a small lake is possible (brown trout) and use of a tennis court by request. There is secure cycle storage and ample parking for 2 or more cars directly outside the cottage. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: All fuel (including logs), bed linen and bath/hand towels are provided. Washing facilities are available by request for extended stays.

Outstanding property - better than the photos

Absolutely lovely cottage and hosts. We truly can not express in words enough to do this place and the hosts true justice. Andy and Sue were amazing they could not have done more for us if they tried. As we stayed for 4 weeks over the Christmas and new year period with our two small children Sue and Andy decorated the cottage in the Christmas spirit complete with a tree. The added extras they provide go above and beyond it truly felt like a home - we believe we couldn't have chosen better place. While it is along time between our visits to the U.K. from Australia we will definitely stay again. If you are looking at this place to stay we strongly recommend booking.

Idyllic get away cottage

This cottage could not be in a better location for an escape from the world It is in a beautiful location , beautifully furnished and Sue and Andy make you very welcome. There was a lovely hamper waiting on us on arrival with local produce and a home made Yorkshire tea loaf , which we eat our way through during our stay. The cottage is in a great location for heading out walking or driving to many locations and towns nearby that are worth a visit in Yorkshire. I am sure we will return for some more yorkshire hospitality, everyone we met were so nice and helpful , nothing was any trouble .

A beautiful cottage in stunning location

I have lost count of the number of times I have stayed here - which says it all ! It is an immaculate cottage in a beautiful location and Andy and Sue are the kindest hosts. The welcome pack is full of local goodies which is always very welcome after a long journey. The care and thought put into all the furnishings is excellent - everything is of a very high quality. I cannot recommend Yates highly enough.

Great little cottage with stunning view.

Don't really want to tell you about this place as I don't want it to be booked up when I want to go back.

It's great. Thoroughly recommended.

Long kitchen / diner / lounge gives plenty of space. Log burner warms everything up quick if you've come in from the cold.

Two bedrooms are at either end of cottage so nice and quiet at night.

Stunning view from the front of the cottage over a pond and fields.

Andy and Sue are great hosts, so friendly and a little box of local necessities (goodies) that were so good we went shopping for more of the same (Mackenzies smokehouse just down the road especially good).

The only down side is very patchy mobile network coverage, but I think that was actually a good thing, peace and quiet. Broadband had just been connected the week before we got there and was ideal for the wife with Facebook and the kid with his tablet games (no idea which one was the trend last week) and for planning days out.

Pately Bridge just down road is a perfect Yorkshire village with Brimham Rocks just a bit further being a great place to visit.

All I can say is go visit you wont be disappointed.
