Wonderful holiday

  • 5 of 5

This is a lovely old farmhouse in very beautiful countryside. The house is clean and thoughtfully equipped with everything you could possibly need. The downstairs bedroom and bathroom are perfect for grandparents and the other rooms are comfortable and spacious. The garden is so large and so private - we all enjoyed the badminton and table tennis without feeling overlooked. The pool is perfect and was used at every opportunity whenever the sun shone. Shopping is close by with plenty of choice and there are historic sites and towns to explore not far away.

A perfect spot for a really relaxing holiday.

Superb property in a tranquil setting and great for families - highly recommended!

  • 5 of 5

A really lovely property; the inside of this traditional Charentais home is spacious and extremely well-equipped - the owners have obviously put a great deal of thought into what families want and need during their stay, and believe me - it is all there!

Outside there is a lovely pool, set in a huge garden with loads to amuse kids of all ages - ping-pong, badminton, boules, a BBQ, and plenty of scope to just chill out and relax.

The property is located in a fairly secluded hamlet and you definitely need a car, but the tranquility is superb. There are some lovely walks and cycle rides (4 bikes are on-site for visitors' use) and the Charente river is beautiful to explore by kayak from nearby Mansle.

The owners have helpfully provided lots of local information and suggestions for things to do during your stay - we took a recommended walk through the woods and down to the river for a picnic, and also enjoyed a thought-provoking trip to the memorial village of Oradour-sur-Glane (just over an hour's drive away). If, however, you need something a little more high-tech, Futuroscope is also less than 90 mins away and is worth a day trip.

All in all a fabulous property, and one which we are happy to recommend!

Peaceful, comfortable and does not disappoint.

  • 5 of 5

This property was a pleasure to stay in for a week. The garden is huge and all the outdoor games (including bikes) and the pool proved a huge hit with kids and adults alike. The kitchen is well equipped and the bedrooms were very comfortable. The Slades provide very detailed instructions about the property and lots of useful information about the surrounding area. The tranquility of the location and the property itself allowed us quality time as a family and a chance to escape the pace of normal life!

Wonderful week in August

  • 5 of 5

The house was perfect for two families with small children: our party was three adults and five children all aged five to eight years. The pool is ideally situated to keep an eye on the kids in the vast garden - the boys set up cricket, football and badminton pitches on one side, the girls built a den on the other. The house doesn't need A/C in high heat and all our needs were catered for. The house would also be perfect for a family looking to holiday with grandparents, because one large en-suite has a slightly detached element to it. Thanks to the Slades for a really wonderful week - we've already recommended you to many friends and we plan to return again soon ourselves!

Beautiful place, lovely house

  • 5 of 5

A lovely house in little hamlet, tucked away from it all. We swam in the pool and river Charente, 5 mins walk away. Cycled through the sunflower and corn fields and sunbathed! The house was very comfortable and so well equipped, loads of garden /pool furniture too. We had a delicious meal at the nearby Cheval Blanc. There were 9 of us, adults and teenagers. Loads of space. Fantastic. We would love to return one day! Highly recommended to all! Thank you so much.

Lovely farmhouse in peaceful surroundings

  • 5 of 5

We have stayed in France as a large family in many charming properties in beautiful surroundings over the past few years but this is probably the best we have experienced. Everything is as described by the owners; the pool is a good size, the courtyard is a lovely setting for eating al fresco or just relaxing and the whole property including the gardens is secluded and tranquil; but what sets this property apart from other farmhouses we have stayed in is the ease with which we settled in and the attention to detail. The owners have been very thoughtful in ensuring that the farmhouse is home-from-home by having a well equipped kitchen and utility room, leaving handily placed notes or instructions around the place, providing plenty of garden furniture, wi-fi etc. The house was very clean and very well maintained; and when we had a minor mishap upon our arrival it was dealt with very quickly by the caretakers. This was our second visit to the Charente and were we to return as a family we would book this property again.
