Katies Cottage at no6 Main Street, Findochty (pronounced 'Finechty') is a traditional fisherman's cottage typical of the Morayshire coast which was completely refurbished to a very high standard two years ago. It sleeps 6 and has two bathrooms. The living area is open plan on the upper level with fine views over the harbour where there is always activity. The rear of the house is fully decked with a little hut with games for the children and loungers for the adults to soak up the sun from morning till late afternoon on this south facing private sheltered deck. All the bed linen and towels are supplied and the cost includes gas central heating and plenty hot water. The visitor's book reads ''you have thought of everything''!
We are a couple in our 60's who have been coming to the area on holiday for the last 12 years. Two years ago we decided to take the plunge and to buy Katies Cottage. We decided at the outset that holiday accommodation should feel like 5 star and have endeavoured to make it so!
Everyone who knows Myra knew what to expect and all our friends who have stayed have not been disappointed. When we read the visitors' book it makes it all worthwhile and this has been affirmed by those who have already been twice and been so complimentary about the facilities.
The area offers the best of both worlds - a spectacular coast line with great beaches and cliff walks as well as easy access to the mountains and countryside of the Cairngorms.
It is accessible by road, rail, bus and from the airports at Aberdeen and Inverness. We come up the east coast route through Aberdeen and this will soon be even more accessible via the new by-pass.
The cottage sits in the middle of the village with views over and access to the harbour which is always busy with some activity - fishing sailing or the beach with the chance to spot the dolphins in the bay.
The sun deck in the rear garden overs private sheltered space to chill out in the sun from morning till late in the afternoon.
There are three golf courses really nearby and plenty of cliff walks. As well as the beaches in Findochty itself there are great beaches in the neighbouring villages for safe bathing or great surfing.
'' you have thought of everything- luxurious''
'' The weather was amazing and the cottage so beautiful''
Great holiday! Cottage is beautiful and well equipped, generous welcome pack of goodies awaiting us on arrival. Village is quaint with great beaches. Lots to do in surrounding area. Fabulous time had by kids and adults alike.
Myra and Colin the owners have done a excellent job job with Katie's Cottage.
It has everything you need so well thought out, a real home from home.
We had a fantastic week in this very beautiful area of Scotland.
Wonderful beaches, Findhorn Eco village, dolphin centre and the Cairngorms all within easy reach and well worth a visit.
Linda's fish and Chips in Cullen are not to be missed.
Myra and Colin went out of their way to make us feel welcome.
A basket full of goodies, even thinking of the children with packets of sweets plus
A jug of beautiful yellow roses.
Thank you so much Myra and Colin, we hope to be back some day
To your lovely cottage.
Myself, partner, parents and two boys have just returned from a glorious week in 'Katie's' cottage. Myra and Colin the owners have thought of absolutely everything within the cottage including a lovely welcome pack in which there were two Easter eggs for my boys, what a lovely wee touch. The cottage itself is immaculate and has everything you need and more, the boys enjoyed the variety of board games and arts and craft materials.
The surrounding area has plenty to keep you occupied, for families the leisure centre at Buckie and Aquarium at Banff are great days out, the dolphin sanctuary at Spey Bay is lovely and the beach has fantastic views. The village of Findochty itself has delightful walks round the harbours again with stunning views. The Admiral hotel at the end of the bay serves delicious meals and the staff were friendly and helpful.
We enjoyed spending our days in the surrounding costal villages and then returning to he luxury and cosiness of the cottage, we would highly recommend this cottage and will certainly book again.
Katie's cottage is situated in a perfect location. Exactly as advertised. Beautifully decorated with literally all you need (home from home is an understatement!)
The cottage is tastefully decorated. The location is both scenic and breath taking. We felt very relaxed and felt the benefit of the surroundings.
The owners have thought of every little detail. Very impressed! Already recommended to friends and family.
We will definitely be visiting Katie's cottage again. Owners are pleasure to deal with.
My husband and myself along with another couple spent a week here last year.
We can assure you that you will not be disappointed with Katies Cottage as it is a home from home. The decor is beautiful and very tastefully done along with nice touches here and there. We also appreciated the welcome pack which had been left for us.
If you like walking there are plenty lovely places to explore and if you just love to chill out there are plenty of lovely coffee shops in and around the area at Buckie and Cullen.
We as couples are returning again this year to visit the places we missed last year and also to indulge in the "coffee shops"!!!!!!
A visit to Baxters and the ice cream shop in Cullen are well worth a visit
The owners Colin and Myra have plenty information at the cottage regarding out and about at Findochty, also eating places, takeaway etc. along with plenty information regarding appliances etc. in the cottage.
The cottage is well looked after and spotless, there is a small garden at the rear where you can relax, particularly in the good weather. There are plenty books, DVDs, children's games and books, along with bucket and spades for the children.
The utility room has a washing machine with tumble dryer and also an inside pulley which comes in very handy.
We would highly recommend Katies Cottage so go and explore this beautiful part of Scotland for yourselves
There are two beaches in the village the one at the harbour is two minutes walk.
There are also extensive sandy beaches in the neighbouring villages the one especially at Sandend used for surfing when the wind is up. It's a kilometer long of beautiful sand and safe swimming.
There are plenty of seasonal opportunities to see the dolphins in the bay off Findochty or visit the centre at Spey Bay 10miles away.
Morayshire is part of the whiskey trail and there are lots of castles to see in the wider area.
The Light-house exhibition at Fraserbourgh is worth a visit.
Inverness Airport is about 60 miles to the west and Aberdeen is about 40 miles to the east. A car is recommended to achieve the best advantages of all the facilities available in the area. Parking is not a problem.
Buckie 3 miles, Cullen 3 miles, Elgin 15miles, Banff 12 miles, Inverness 70miles,
Aberdeen 40 miles, Aviemore 30miles.
