House in Xaghra, Island of Gozo, Malta - Quiet Location 2 Minutes Walk From Xaghra Square, Perfect Central Location To Explore Gozo
St John’s House sits at the edge of Xaghra, Gozo’s most charming village. With its central location it’s the perfect base for ramblers or sun worshippers on a beach holiday. Inside, the fully equipped kitchen diner, comfortable practical furniture, and air-conditioning , makes for an easy to manage self catering holiday. There is a lounge with TV and DVD with a library of tiles for children and adults to while away any unoccupied hours on the comfy chairs and sofa. At the back of the property is a small garden in which young children love to hunt for lizards! With a large sun patio and a BBQ area to enjoy al fresco dinning.
This is a large property where 5 or 6 people can holiday without feeling on top of each other as often is the case in small apartments. Sleeping accommodation, consist of three bedrooms all on the upper floor which is reached via a traditional stone staircase, upstairs there is also and toilet and with bath and shower. A spare toilet on the ground floor with shower cubicle (which helps when the teenagers hog the bathroom) completes the accommodation.

About Chris Gallagher
I live in Suffolk and work in Education so am able to come out to Gozo quite frequently. The house belonged to my parents who retired to Gozo for 20 years. Now I use it when I can and rent it out other times. I have been going to Gozo for 40 years. I first went as a child and have never really found anywhere with the charm and appeal of Gozo. The warm friendly nature of the people has to be experienced for oneself and the Anglo side of their history and culture means that it's easy to feel at home whilst being very much in a different country.
Chris Gallagher purchased this House in 1990
Why Chris Gallagher chose Xaghra
My parents bought this property and lived in it for many years before returning to England. It's a traditional Maltese house set in a very quiet area of Xaghra but close to all amenities as well as being close enough to the the bus stop but not actually right next to it.
What makes this House unique
I love to sit in the garden in the evening and unwind after a busy day relaxing on the beach or snorkelling at Marsalforn. The street is very quiet but everything is near if you need it. Xaghra has always been my favourite place in Gozo, unlike other towns in Gozo which often appear deserted Xaghra square always has something going on. One of my favourite morning pastimes is to drink coffee in the square and watch the world go by. The bars and restaurants stay open late if that's what you like or if you prefer to immerse yourself in the local culture the Xaghra band club is only a minute around the corner.

Very relaxing and central place
The ideal location on Gozo at one end of road historic windmill and just facing the temples bus stops more than handy for going into Victoria or going to ferry terminal we had a good relaxing time . Found some very good and reasonably priced places to eat would return again.
spacious traditional family Maltese town house- comfortable & well equipped.Air con in main rooms
house in good position- 5 mins from Xaghra main square by temples & windmill. was very hot 36degrees-so limited what we could do-went out early & late -rested in middle of day. Hire car made exploring much easier.lovely restaurants & bars in the square. festival on in next town
Very large, secluded and comfortable house
Very grand entrance with a staircase that would do many a town hall proud . A rear garden area that has some lush vegetation with lots of visiting birds and is pleasant to sit in on the provided chairs and tables as is the upstairs terrace in the evening. A very well presented property that has every conceivable thing needed except internet and it's nice to be reacquainted with one's spouse/ family and good to see the place you are visiting not through a screen. Much cheaper than the seaside apartments and more up market and not overlooked anywhere. Don't need a swimming pool as beaches not far and good quality bathing to be had in the Gozo sea, and lets face it , most of these swimming pools are little bigger than a foot bath anyway and bump up the price. Dehumidifiers , air con, fans and heaters on site for any time of the year, grand shower downstairs by Gozo standards as low water pressure and have to dance under the drip in most places but not this one and having stayed in lots of places in Malta and Gozo from £400 a night hotels to beach side apartments over the years I can honestly say this is the very best for the very least, with every facility just a short walk away.
Spacious with handy location
We enjoyed our stay here. Manuel was very helpful fetching us from the ferry and showing where everything was. House is deceptively large. It is dated but had everything we needed. I agree with the previous review about the noisy dog. Also the street outside is noisy between 7-8 am but otherwise the area is very quiet. Bus stops and temple are just outside the door. Kids enjoyed the wii. Would have liked a TV signal and some more DVD's. There's no wifi but you can get free wifi in the square (& all public squares in Malta). Loved Gozo and hope to be back one day.
Spacious, we got lost in there at first! lol.
Lovely & spacious. Secluded sun patio was the best bit for us, going ''au naturalle'' as nobody could see. 9/10, Would've given 10/10 apart from the dvd collection could be improved for the nights where we'd had enough of eating out in the square. And there were dogs in a property over the back that didn't stop barking, not Chris's fault but the layout of the area mean't I couldn't find out where the barking came from to ask the owner to keep them quiet. Apart from that, brilliant. And Manuel is a total star, God bless him.
Autumn stay in Gozo
What a delight to be met by Emanuel who showed us around this delightful spacious property. It was obvious this was a well loved property and it proved to be an excellent base for our stay on this lovely island. Bus passes can be purchased at Victoria for 21 euros which will give unlimited bus travel for a week. The bus stop is conveniently just across the road. Our daughter and grandchildren joined us for the half term break in October and had a fantastic time, the house being spacious enough to accommodate us all comfortably. There are plenty of books, games, playing cards etc. to enjoy and it was a delight to go in the Square in the evening for a drink and a meal at one of the many delightful restaurants and bars, and to "connect" with WiFi if needed, though it was refreshing to enjoy the company of the grandchildren "unconnected". We were well taken care as we had contact numbers for Emanuel should we need him. He would call in occasionally just to see if all was well, bearing gifts of melons, eggs and pomegranates The house is well situated with the famous Ggantija Temples opposite (entry 7 euros) and the Ta Kola Windmill at the top of the road. Favourite beach was Dwejra but there are so many and varied beaches to visit you will be spoilt for choice. Communication with Chris was open, friendly and informative. We would highly recommend this holiday home as good value, clean and spacious. A home from home.
Distances: Wonderful Ramla bay is 10 minutes, Ggantija temples (world heritage site) are 30 seconds! Victoria is 5 minutes. Marsalforn is 10 minutes. Further Details: Local shops and banks are 2 minutes walk away in Xaghra square with it's lovely restaurants and cafes not to mention the wonderful church.
